WHAT AN AMAZING SUMMER! The summertime is always a great opportunity for downtown Brampton businesses to showcase the downtown core. The DBBIA utilized the summer edition of the Discover Downtown Brampton magazine to feature all of these summertime events hosted in downtown. From Thursday Night Concert Series, CeleBrampton, to the Farmers’ Market every Saturday, to Party in the LANES – June, July & August, Bollywood Film Nights, Friday Night Live, Vibrant Brampton, Flower City Bhangra, Live Art Competition, to the World of Jazz Festival-the downtown core was a happening place for all! With the summer event and marketing programs in full force, the DBBIA has also been very active in talking and engaging with many downtown businesses regarding Downtown Reimagined, Ryerson University, the 2019 DBBIA Budget, Digital Mainstreet and most importantly, how to keep our downtown cleaner, brighter and safer. In response to these issues, the BIA held a Safety Forum in July, budget workshops throughout the month of August, as well as sent out a membership survey on Downtown Reimagined. A big thank you to all the businesses who participated in these membership initiatives. The Downtown Reimagined Survey has also been included in this newsletter, and we encourage you to take some time to give us your feedback as this will assist the DBBIA and the City of Brampton with the exciting revitalization plans that will be transforming our downtown. In closing, the DBBIA will also be hosting the Fall Business Mixer on Wednesday September 26, 2018 as well as a Downtown Brampton BIA Town Hall in November 2018. DOWNTOWN REIMAGINED PROJECT UPDATE Capital Project: The joint capital project between the Region of Peel and City of Brampton, for utility replacement and streetscaping on Queen Street and Main Street, is progressing towards the construction phase as planned.

In July a pre-qualification process was completed and five General Contractors were selected and invited to bid on the construction contract. The tender is currently ongoing and is expected to close in mid to late September. Following the review and evaluation of tenders it is expected that the construction contract will be awarded in early October. Based on this schedule it is anticipated that some preliminary work will start in late fall.

Once the contract has been awarded and a schedule of work has been determined later this fall, more details about the construction staging including the timing of the closure of Queen Street and Main Street will be provided.

We look forward to working with you as we complete this challenging and complex project to bring a new and exciting transformation to life in the downtown core.

The Region of Peel and the City of Brampton are committed to working with all stakeholders to minimize disruption, ensure that businesses remain open and to provide a safe transition of traffic and pedestrian movement during construction.

What will it look like:Take a look at the latest video that will give you an idea on the scope and scale of the project and what it will look like when the project is completed. www.brampton.ca/downtownreimagined
