I, the albatross that awaits at the end of the world... I am the forgotten soul of the sailors lost,

rounding Cape Horn from all the seas of the world. But die they did not in the fierce waves,

for today towards eternity, in my wings they soar, in the last crevice of the Antarctic winds. – Sara Vial

One of the greatest graveyards for ships anywhere, crossing Cape Horn is a rite of passage for sailors the world over. Cape Horn was discovered in January 1616 by

Dutchmen Jakob Le Maire and Willem Schouten, sailing in the Unity. They named the cape for their ship Hoorn, which had accidentally burned at Puerto Deseado on the Patagonian coast. Horn Island, of which the famous cape forms the southernmost

headland, is just eight kilometres (5 miles) long. The cape itself rises to 424 meters with striking black cliffs on its upper parts. A monument in the form of a large relief sculpture depicts an albatross in flight. It commemorates those lost at sea. A poem by Sara Vial is

engraved on a metal plaque nearby. (see above)

Die Umrundung Kap Hoorns, einer der grössten Schiffsfriedhöfe weltweit, ist für alle Seeleute eine ganz besondere Passage. Kap Hoorn wurde im Januar 1616 durch die Holländer Jakob Le Maire und Willem Schouten in ihrem Schiff Unity entdeckt. Sie benannten das Kap nach ihrem anderen Schiff Hoorn, das versehentlich bei Puerto Deseado an der patagonischen Küste ausgebrannt war. Die Insel Hoorn, deren südlichste Spitze das berühmte Kap bildet, ist nur 8 km lang. Das Kap selbst ist 424m hoch, mit auffälligen schwarzen Felswänden im oberen Bereich. Ein großes abstraktes Denkmal stellt einen Albatros im Flug dar. Es erinnert an die Seeleute die hier umkamen. Ein Gedicht von Sara Vial ist auf einer Metallplatte an der Basis eingraviert.

Please pick up your Passport in the Reception on deck 4. Make sure to fill out the Chilean Customs declaration, and place this IN your passport.

22:00 You will have received a draft copy of your account. If you have any queries please see reception. Your final bill will be emailed to you. Cruise Cards are automatically closed at 22:00 and may no longer be used as a payment-card. The total amount that has been saved up on this card will be charged automatically to the credit card that has been combined with the Cruise Card. If you wish to pay part or the bill in cash, please contact the Reception on deck 4 before 22:00. If you would like to settle your account at any time from now, please see reception.

23:00 For ALL passengers on charter flight: Please place your check-in luggage by the nearest elevator by 23:00 at the latest. The crew will collect it and transport it ashore the next morning. Your luggage will be transported in a separate truck to the airport. When you arrive at the Airport, you will receive your boarding pass, then proceed directly to the security check. Please note: If you are not of any of the charter flights but have own arrangements, you should not place your luggage by the elevator – but will carry it yourself when you leave the ship in the morning.

Kofferanhänger für das Gepäck

Falls Sie einen Transfer mit Hurtigruten gebucht haben, kommen Sie bitte an die Rezeption. Dort erhalten Sie einen farbigen Kofferanhänger für das Gepäck, das Sie aufgeben wollen. Diese Anhänger dienen nur der Orientierung. Anhand der unterschiedlichen Farben werden die Koffer dann den unterschiedlichen Transferzeiten zugeordnet. Bitte befestigen Sie pro Gepäckstück einen entsprechenden Anhänger mit Name und Kabinennummer. ROT = Flug 1 Abfahrt 11:30 : (Ankunft in Santiago 14:50) BLAU = Flug 2 Abfahrt 12:30: (Ankunft in Santiago 15:50) FYI: Da es sich um einen Charterflug handelt, ist das Einchecken nur am Flughafen möglich.

Sie erhalten eine vorläufige Schiffsabrechnung. Sollten Sie irgendwelche Beanstandungen haben, melden Sie sich bitte an der Rezeption. Sie erhalten Ihre Endabrechnung per Email. Ihre Cruise Card wird automatisch um 22 Uhr gesperrt und kann dann als Zahlungsmittel nicht mehr verwendet werden. Die gesamte Rechnung wird dann von der Kreditkarte, die Sie beim Einchecken angegeben haben, abgebucht. Sollten Sie Teile oder die ganze Rechnung in bar bezahlen wollen, kommen Sie bitte vor 22:00 Uhr an die Rezeption.

Für ALLE Gäste des Charter-Flugs: Bitte stellen Sie Ihr Gepäck vor 23 Uhr an den nächstgelegenen Aufzug. Die Crew sammelt das Gepäck ein und bringt es dann zu gegebener Zeit auf den Kai. Ihr Gepäck wird in einem separaten LKW zum Flughafen gebracht. Wenn Sie am Flughafen ankommen, holen Sie lediglich Ihre Bordkarte ab und gehen direkt zum Sicherheitscheck. WICHTIG: Gäste, die selbst einen Flug gebucht haben und ein eigenes Reise-Arrangement haben, stellen Ihr Gepäck bitte nicht abends an den Aufzug! Sie müssen es morgens selbst befördern, wenn Sie das Schiff verlassen.

Bitte kontrollieren Sie vor dem Verlassen Ihre Kabine, damit Sie wirklich nichts vergessen (Schränke, Schubladen etc.). Sollten Sie etwas an der Rezeption deponiert haben, vergessen Sie nicht, es dort abzuholen, bevor Sie von Bord gehen. Falls Sie etwas verloren haben, fragen Sie an der Rezeption danach (dort gibt es eine Box für verlorene und gefundene Gegenstände).
