    Greetings from Disabled People International Asia Pacific (DPI/AP).

    This is an email update featuring developments in the field of disability

    from around the world.

    Because of the importance of social justice as a basis for our work, we

    added this as topic into our newsletter.

    A) Developments in the field of Disability

    1. Inauguration of ASEAN Disability Forum

    On the 18th and 19th September the Inauguration of ASEAN Disability Forum

    took place in the Centara Grand at Central World in Bangkok, Thailand. It

    was a Workshop on the Participation of Thai Disability Community to

    Develop a Better Life of Persons with Disabilities in Southeast Asia through

    ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community. The objectives were to discuss and share

    the idea of Disability and ASEAN and to inaugurate ASEAN Disability Forum.

    Furthermore the following outcome documents should be created: The

    Bangkok Declaration on the Inauguration of ASEAN Disability Forum,

    Members of the initial Steering Committee members of ADF, Terms of

    Reference of ADF and the ADF Plan of Action until 2013.

    4. Update of the CRPD (Convention on the Rights of

    Persons with Disabilities)

    Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities:

    153 signatories

    105 ratifications

    Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with

    Disabilities:

    90 signatories

    63 ratifications

    Palau signed the Convention on 20-9-2011.

    Kyrgyzstan signed the Convention on 21-9-2011.

    Saint Lucia signed the Convention on 22-9-2011.

    Micronesia (Federated States of) signed the Convention on 23-9-2011.

    Luxembourg ratified the Convention on 26-9-2011 and ratified the Optional

    Protocol on 26-9-2011 as well.
