Everything about him is colossal, his profile, his ambitions,

his intiatives and of course his dream project the magnificent

Continental Hospitals. Dr. Guru Nath Reddy Founder, Chairman

and Managing Director of Continental Hospitals, Hyderabad is

a standing monument in the country today redefining standards

of healthcare, focused on uncompromising quality, exceptional

ambience, world’s best technologies and an enviable infrastructure.

Born in Hyderabad to Mr. T. Gurudatta Reddy and Mrs. Damayanthi,

he had a trail blazing academic record since childhood. Beyond

academics his extra curricular activities portfolio is simply

incredible. Receiving state special merit scholarship for graduating

in SSC at the top in the state of AP and again being awarded state

merit scholarship in Junior college his entire medical education

at Osmania Medical

College was on academic

scholarship.

He also served as Chief

Editor of “Pulsus Osmeco”

college magazine and spend

many weekends in charity

healthcare work in rural

areas. Upon graduating

he decided to migrate to

the United States after

completing his ECFMG in

1983.

Dr. Reddy’s iron will, commitment and laser like focus created

another trailblazing path in a foreign country. In recognition of

his outstanding performance as a young resident in medicine he

was given 9 months credit to pursue basic science and clinical

research, an honor rarely given. Subsequently joined the

prestigious Baylor College of Medicine at The Texas Medical

Center (worlds largest medical center) in Houston for super

specialization in Gastroenterology, Liver Diseases, Transplant

Hepatology and Nutrition.

As an only Indian member of the entire faculty and fellows he

was held in the highest esteem. His virtues of passionate work,

quick learning, brilliant decision making and leadership earned

him the reputation of a superb clinician, endoscopist and a person

of integrity. In 1988, while

continuing on clinical

faculty at Baylor he started

his private group practice

of Gastroenterolgy & Liver

Diseases and built it to

one of the largest groups

in Houston with multiple

clinics, surgery centers

in a few years time. At a

young age he became a

leading Gartroenterologist

300 Grastroenterologists. For

his professional contributions

and achievements in the field of

gastroenterology, Dr Reddy is

regarded as an icon in his speciality.

It is observed that Dr. Reddy has done most number of endoscopic

procedures (over one hundred thousand) in the United States, an

extraordinary achievement. He attributes the success simply to

building an outstanding team of providers, offering latest therapies

to patients, always listening to patients thoroughly, spending time

and earning trust of patients before any test or treatment. He has

been voted consecutively to Houston’s TOP Doctors “H Texas

Magazine” from 2006 to 2013. He was cited by the prestigious

News Week magazine twice as Country’s Top doctors. He was

recognized as America’s Top Physicians by consumer research

council of America, 2006.

He was the first Asian Indian to be elected as President of the

largest Medical Society - “Harris County Medical Society” in

2011. He also served as president of the prestigious “Houston

Academy of Medicine”. He served on many boards including the

Health Museum, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, Texas Gulf

Coast Gastrointestinal Society and American Liver Foundation

advisory board and other new hospitals. He is a member delegate

of the largest state medical

society in the US – The

Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Reddy’s indomitable

will and not resting on

the anvil of his success he

directed his vision towards

India’s health care. He

says “I was shaken up

and moved visiting India

every year and seeing care

of patients, crumbling

infrastructure of many healthcare

institutions in our state and country,

loss of patient dignity and many

processes at fault”. Although he

fearlessly and with uncompromising

hard work broke many glass ceilings

in America and brought an extraordinary recognition to the

Indian Community, he was unhappy as an Indian seeing what was

happening in India in the healthcare domain.

Beginning in 2007 an exploration of India’s health care structure

with painstaking due diligence for 2 years, visiting different cities

he decided to give back to his motherland sacrificing a glorious

career that he had built from scratch in a foreign land. His

unassuming self with a driven mind and vast experience helped

him navigate to build Continental Hospitals, a 1000 bed facility

in 18 floors with current commissioning of 350 beds with thirty

plus specialties.

He adds “My singular mission of this journey is to redefine

healthcare to provide the best quality care to every patient

everyday in a cost effective manner. Further foster a partnership

with medical staff and employees and dedicate to compassion,

dignity and excellence in caring the whole person – mind, body

and spirit. We cannot progress as a society and change healthcare

until perceptions of people are changed, false advertisements are

stopped, incentive based
