The Department of Student Support & Transitions supports, connects, and empowers

all students as they navigate their academic

and personal journeys. DSST is comprised of six unique offices, which work together to provide wrap around support for students and their families.

Office of Accessibility Services ensures universal access for each studentthrough accommodations, testing support, and assistive technologies.

Investigations & Assessment provides investigative services for allegationsof misconduct concerning Recognized Student Organizations.

Case Management Services provides emotional support, counseling,advocacy, and assistance for students to address their immediate needs. CMS

Withdrawal Services supports students and their families when a student’senrollment is unexpectedly interrupted due to unforeseen circumstances.

CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES (CMS)

A wide range of common concerns and issues are supported through Case Management Services. These include, but are not limited to:

Death of a family member or close friend Academic concerns related to crisis Serious illness (i.e. mononucleosis, meningitis, cancer, chronic illness, etc.) Accident resulting in injury Hospitalization for emotional or physical condition Housing crisis Financial hardship Emotional distress Family/relationship difficulties

Case Managers empower students by assisting in the creation of a plan to help the student continue to navigate their academic journey.

They are knowledgeable about multiple institutional policies and understand the complexities as these policies are often dependent upon the student’s status as an undergraduate or graduate student.

Case Managers assist students in navigating the university and often refer students to other offices and resources, both on and off campus.

The Food for Thought Pantry provides free food for any student in need. Students are asked to only take one bag of food per day, but are welcome to visit

as often as necessary. The pantry is located in A4148 in University Center A. Donations of non-perishable food items are appreciated.

OFFICE OF ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES (OAS)

The Office of Accessibility Services works in conjunction with both students and faculty to build a mutually supportive “triad” that works collaboratively to facilitate accommodations and promote access on campus.

OAS works with over 6,000 students each year. OAS assists students with academic, housing, and dining

accommodations. Students should set up an intake appointment to apply for services by

visiting https://dsst.fsu.edu/oas/students/applying-for-services. Students may apply for services at any time during the semester, but OAS

will require at least seven (7) days to process applications and schedule the intake meeting.

Accommodations are not retroactive, meaning they only apply from the point of completing the intake meeting and submitting the letter of accommodation to the faculty member.

Applications received within the last 10 class days of the semester will be processed for the following semester in which you are enrolled.

INVESTIGATIONS & ASSESSMENT (I&A)

Investigates alleged violations of the Code of Conduct for Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs), which includes fraternities and sororities.

Provides University and departmental decision-makers with timely, relevant, data on trends in student and student organization behaviors.

NEW STUDENT & FAMILY PROGRAMS (NSFP)

NSFP offers 30+ orientation sessions a year, customized to the unique needs of students and families, to help facilitate a smooth transition to FSU.

Students are required to complete orientation prior to their first semester.

NSFP also hosts year-long engagement opportunities, including: Chart Your Course – one credit hour first year seminar course Welcome FSU events – Ask A ‘Nole, New Student Convocation,

First Day Photos, and the Estonko Welcome Mixer Family Programming – FSU Chats, Family Connection e-Newsletter,

Coffee & Conversations, Notes to Your ‘Nole

VICTIM ADVOCATE PROGRAM (VAP)

The Victim Advocate Program provides services to primary and secondary victims of crime, violence or abuse against, or by, Florida State University students.

A confidential advocate is on call 24 hours a day to respond to FSU students, faculty, and staff who are victimized anywhere or at any time, as well as any other person who is victimized on our campus, at an FSU sponsored event, or by an FSU community member.

Services offered include: emotional support, instructor notification, referrals, crisis intervention, and assistance in student conduct, legal and medical matters.

OFFICE OF WITHDRAWAL SERVICES (OWS)

OWS assists students when their academic plans are interrupted, whether due to personal, family, medical/mental health, and/or other crisis.

Students who must leave during a current semester must officially withdraw (all classes) through the Department of Student Support & Transitions.

A Withdrawal Advisor explains the withdrawal application process at its various stages, makes referrals to the appropriate Academic Dean, and offers other University support services as needed.

DEAN ON DUTY

The Dean on Duty responds to all campus crisis situations in which a student is experiencing a health or safety emergency where an immediate University response is needed, which cannot wait until the next business day.

The Dean on Duty is an Associate or Assistant Dean within the Department of Student Support and Transitions.

The Dean on Duty may be contacted for the following: Death of a student (on/off campus) Suicide Serious injury/illness Assault/abuse/violence Mental health crisis

STUDENTS OF CONCERN

FSU strategically responds to and monitors students of concern. When a student is reported, we triage to evaluate the situation using the

FSU outreach response matrix, which determines whether the student is in need of monitoring, referral(s) to support services, an assistance plan, a behavioral plan, or in the most serious of cases an involuntary medical withdrawal.

There are 5 levels of response for students of concern which include: Level 5: No identified risk (Case Management) Level 4: Low Risk (Student of Concern Committee) Level 3: Moderate Risk (Student Situation Resolution Team) Level 2: High Risk (Behavior Intervention Team) Level 1: Extreme Risk (Threat Assessment Team)

Florida State University community to alert the Department of Student Support & Transitions to concerns

about students and organizations so that appropriate follow-up and support can be provided.

Use this guide when assisting distressed students or when dealing with a person with a weapon. This information includes basic

guidelines but cannot address every situation: therefore, in the event you believe you, the person(s) involved, or anyone else is at risk due to another person’s behavior, you should call the Florida State University Police

at 850-644-1234 or 911.
