Three of our finest 7th graders were finalists competing at the MA State Science Fair on June 5th at the Worcester Technical High School. These students placed at the MA Region III Science Fair back in March and then competed last Saturday with 300 other finalists from across all of Massachusetts. We were fortunate to have two of our students receive trophies for third place and $50 savings bonds from the U.S. Army: Matthew Salit for his project entitled: "Mouthwash Magic: Whiten and Brighten to Have Your Smile Enlightened!" Samantha Johannes for her project entitled: "Does a Stop Sign Really Mean Stop?" The other student who participated, Zachary Garabian, project was entitled: "Does the Weight of a Baseball Bat Affect the Distance Traveled by the Ball?" We congratulate these three students. 1

Local author, Diane Kosak, spoke to each of Mrs. Dumas's English classes about her latest book Exposing Eurabia, the sequel to Full Circle 911. She spoke about the importance of imagination, researching, and developing plots and characters. Each student was presented an autographed copy of Exposing Eurabia, generously donated by Pawtucket Credit Union.

Summer ActivitiesDiscovery Education has a Parent's Corner on their site. This is a nice tie in for parents looking to keep their children's minds in learning mode with summer flair! It offers a variety of things for parents and students alike. Our teacher’s use Discovery Streaming videos and lessons throughout the school year. 8th Grade Dance – June 18th

Invitations are being sent home to all 8th graders to this year’s dance to be held Friday, June 18th at Hurley Middle School.

Dress- Semi Formal Gentlemen- recommended shirt\tie Ladies- recommended dress or dress blouse and slacks

Dance will be from 6:30pm to 9:30pm

We ask that students are dropped off at the front entrance. The school highly discourages rental of limos for this event.

Students may begin arriving at 6pm for photos to be taken in the library. Package prices will be sent home in advance of the dance for planning. Photos will be available for pick at the school approximately 2 weeks following the dance.

Student may be picked up at 9:30pm from the back of the school for better traffic flow.

Requests for donations of drinks and food will be sent home and can be brought to school June 18th during the day and left with the office. Please consider donating a food item or supply to the dance.

This will be a special night for the whole 8th grade class!! Be sure to encourage all students to attend this special night with their classmates.

Formal Pictures at the 8th Grade Semi will be provided by :

There will be 3 packages offered:

Basic Package1-5x7 & 4-wallets: $10.00

Couples Package2-5x7s & 8-wallets: $15.00

Group Package (for 3 or more students)1-5x7 & 4-wallets: $10.00 for each person that wishes to purchase. Each person must fill out a separate order form. (Please note that not all students in the photo are required to purchase.)

Add 1-8x10, 2-5x7’s, or 8-wallets to any package: $5.00

All formal pictures will be taken on a blue background. An optional white column with ivy can be added for singles and smaller groups.

Packages must be paid for in cash at the dance, and will be delivered to theschool within 2 weeks. There will be designated pick-up days at the school’s main office.June 2010

Program: Eight week session with games being held on Saturdays and instruction during the week at the Cole Street Field.

Awards: Closing Ceremonies will be after your last scheduled game.
