Executive committee meeting held on 20/8/2017, at Narsinhbhai Patel Dental College

& Hospital, SPU Campus, Visnagar. It was accepted by the EC members to conduct the 47th

IDA Gujarat State Annual Conference at Narsinhbhai Patel Dental College and Hospital,

Visnagar. For the first time in history of Gujarat an institute was hosting IDA conference and

hence established a landmark in the dental fraternity.

Committees were formed and the work was delegated immediately. The committees

were headed by Dr. JR Patel as organizing chairman and Dr. Kamal Bagda as organizing

secretary.

Colleges were visited individually by committee members to motivate the students to

attend and participate in the conference. Practitioners were also motivated to attend the

conference. All the committee members enthusiastically worked for the conference.

The preconference workshop started on 15th December 2017. Four Preconference

courses were conducted an overwhelming response was witness by the participants.

The course of “Tips and Tricks for Predictability & Success in full mouth rehabilitation” was

conducted by Dr. Sagar Abichandani, “Basic Surgical Implants” by Dr. Viral Patel,

“Impression & Temporization in Implant” was conducted by Dr. Mahendranadh Reddy, and

the course of “A new benchmark in teeth Whitening: A Paradigm shift” was conducted by

Dr.Rumpa Wig.

A total of 135 delegated participated actively and enthusiastically in the

preconference courses and were uncovered to modernization in dentistry.

1500 delegates were expected to participate in the conference and the final target

reached was 1486.

The event viewed exceptional scientific proficiency with equal involvement from the

fervent faculty as well as passionate students.

This epic session comprehend treasure box full of enlightening scientific sessions

comprising of 4 Preconference courses, 2 Oration and 13 keynote Lectures anticipating from

different fields of dentistry and also from fields apart from dentistry addressing delegates and

enthusiastic students with their immense charms of knowledge and carve up their inestimable

experiences. 43 faculty / delegate free papers, 97 student papers, 72 student E posters, 19

Table clinics, dental quiz, 20 cultural events and 30 dental trade exhibitors added charm to

the congregation.

Registration

The conference was inaugurated on 16th

December 2017, by Shri Prakash Patel, at the

college Auditorium and Trade Fair was inaugurated in the parking area of Narsinhbhai Patel

Dental College and Hospital, SPU campus, Visnagar.

Scientific programme started with the Colgate Oration by Dr. Mahendranadh Reddy

on Fundamental Principles & Concept in Implant Prosthodontics. The live screening was

done in library so that maximum delegates could be reached. This was followed by R Ahmed

Oration by Dr. Kamal Bagda at the same venue with live streaming in library.

Oration was followed by Guest lectures by Dr. Sagar Abichandani on “Minimally

Invasive Dentistry of The 21st Century: The Restorative Prosthetic Insight & Interface” and

“The First Esthetic Bioactive Material” by Dr. Rumpa Wig. Parallel sessions started in

Chanakya hall with a Guest lecture on “Integrating Lasers in Dentistry” by Dr. Amit

Benjamin.

Parallelly, Faculty free paper presentation started simultaneously.

Auditorium – Oration & Guest Lectures

Post lunch the session resumed, with the Guest Lecture of “Failure in Crown and

Bridge: Scope for Improvement and Management” by Dr. Jayanti R. Patel, followed by “How

to Design Technical Yet Aesthetical Dental Clinic” by Mr. Prarthit Shah. Parallel sessions for

Faculty free paper, student free paper were held simultaneously. Each participant was given 8

minutes for the presentation followed by 2 minutes of question and answer session.

E-poster presentation was held in Hall I and Hall J simultaneously. Each contestant

was given 3 minutes for the presentation followed by 2 minutes of question and answer

session. Each presentation was judged by experts with appropriate check list. For both

undergraduate and postgraduate category 3 prizes were awarded with token of appreciation

and trophy. Each buoyant candidate was given the participation certificates at the end of the

session.

A total of 63 students had registered from different colleges of Gujarat, which were

grouped into 19 table clinics.

Scientific programme was followed by Annual General Body meeting which was

attended by the IDA members in the Auditorium in the presence of Dr. Ashok Dhoble,

Honorary General Secretary, IDA Head Office.

A total of 30 exhibitors participated in the Trade Fair which witnessed the latest and

the most innovative technologies and models and materials for display for the benefit of the

delegates.

The mega event of 47th

IDA Gujarat State Annual Conference was inaugurated by the

Chief Guest as Dr. Ashok Dhoble (Hon. General Secretary, IDA Head Office) in the presence

of Guest of Honour, Dr. Anil Nayak (Member MCI, INC and State Dental Council). The

function was also attended by other distinguished guests, elite guardians and students of

different dental colleges.

The inaugural ceremony was followed by a gala banquet and an intercollegiate

cultural evening “TORQUE- The Cultfest” encompassing 20 events. This included a wide

array of performances of dancing, singing, acting and fashion shows by students of different

participating colleges. Photo session booths and song dedication counter made the

celebrations more colourful. Myriads of events ranged from graceful traditional dances to

eye-catching contemporary dances, budding singers singing their heart out to methodical

actors showcasing their acting capabilities. Two very well-choreographed teams going up

with each other was a real treat in the form of fashion show. The perfect icing on the cake

was the DJ night which brought down the curtains of a culturally diverse but thoroughly

entertaining evening.

The scientific session of the second day started with the Guest Lecture of Dr. Smita

Singh who spoke on the “Problem Solving in Endodontics”, which was followed by “New

Protocol & Innovation in Implant Dentistry” by Dr. Viral Patel. This was followed by Dr. SP

Aggrawal who spoke on “New Protocol & Innovation in Implant Dentistry”. Parallel session

of Guest Lecture was held at Chanakya Hall, “Comprehensive Personal Financial Planning”

by Dr. Prashant Popat and “Dentist’s role in treatment of Snoring” by Dr. Jayant Dehadrai.

Scientific presentation was running parallelly for faculty free paper, Student free

paper and E posters.

QUEST FEST a well coordinated quiz competition was held in the auditorium from

with six teams comprising 4 students in each.

Quiz was followed by the valedictory function with Shri Prakash Patel as the Chief

Guest. Mementos were distributed to the organizing committee members. The prizes for

student free paper, E poster and Table clinic were distributed along with the prizes of cultural

events and quiz.
