Dr Richard PeddieLeadership 201
Have a Dream or a vision – Dream Big Dreams…and work
hard.
The Difference between good work and
excellent work is hard work.
Don’t worry about someone being more talented – worry about someone
working harder.
Have strong core values.
Be confident.
What gets measured get’s done.
“The Gross is Not the Net.”
Always pay your taxes.
Athletes are assets.
Edge Matters.
Don’t be afraid to intimidate.
People make the Difference.
Meritocracy Works!
Promote from within.
A CEO hires strangers and fires
friends.
Remember names – it’s a high honour to the person. People feel
recognized and important.
I wanted our employees to know everything that was going on in the company
and the rationale for all our initiatives.
When it comes to media, Less is More.
The customer is always right – but sometimes
you have to fire the customer.
The one who wins the race is often the one who wanted it
the most – who trained harder – who wasn’t satisfied with a personal best time or even a
second-place finish.
I worked hard to be
authentic.
Optimists have more success than
Pessimists.
I realized I could bring a positive emotional
energy to meetings.
I lead with energy.
Stay current.
Diversify your experience.
I encouraged ideas.
Worst Practices can lead to Best Practices.
I had to articulate the right set of
corporate and personal values.
I had to continuously reflect on those values to make
sure they were appropriate to achieving the desired
goal of winning.
I had to embody the values in my own
behaviour – all the time.
All people have untapped leadership potential and
can hone leadership skills if they are
prepared to work at it.
It takes trial and error and time – it’s a learning
process…there is no recipe, no list of traits to
be checked off.
What matters are passion and purpose
and life stories.
For most of my career, I was student of leadership,
knowing what I knew paled in comparison to what I
needed to learn.
Experience and learning are often
transferable.
“Richard doesn’t look back – he looks
forward.”
Always say thanks.
Never underestimate the power of books.
Thanks Dr Peddie
