Wakai, an outstanding member nf the American Association of Endodontists, died at the age of 59 in Honolulu, on April 19, 1982. His death brought to an end a career marked by significant contributions to the field of dentistry, in general, and endodontics, in particular. Wakai was vice president of the Ameri- can Association of Endodontists and had served on the Exeeutive Committee. He was also a trustee of the AAE Endnwment and Memorial Foundation. In 1965, he had become a Diplnmate of the American Board of Endodontics. Elected second vice president of the American Dental Association from 1978 to 1980, he had been a member of the House of Delegates, Council on Dental Research, and the Reference Committee. Fuunder of the largest group of end()- duntic practice in Hawaii and founder and editor of the tla>ai~ Deldal As.s~ciation Joar~ml, Wakai was instrumental in dis- seminating current research and informa- tion about dentistry as well as promoting clinical application. In this respect, Dr. Wakai designed endodontic instruments. At the University of Hawaii, Dr. Wakai, associate professor, taught in the sehool of clinical medicine. He is survived by his wife, Betty, and his children, Susan, Kathleen, Wayne, Wendy Ann, Winifred, and Patricia Ann, and four grandchildren. I)r. Wakai has had a significant role to play in the dental community, dedicating most of his prnfessional life to the advance- ment of dentistry, and in those capaeities he served with a sense of respnnsibility and cnnm]itment.
