(iii) CIF bids : BB reported that a bid for £10K for roof repairs was put in to the DBMAC. The plan is to get the school water-tight over the Summer so an assessment can be made of what needs to be done : this would put the school in a good position for a CIF bid next year for a pitched roof rather than a flat roof. There was need to appoint a Governor to ensure due diligence : GN volunteered to come in over the holiday when a date is fixed. If any other projects come up there needs to be a nominated Governor to take forward

Action : GN

GN left at 4.00 pm

(iv) New Kitchen : Noted that the children are being let down by not being provided with good quality dinners. BB reported that CaterLink and D3 had been looking at the school’s kitchen space, which at first they said was too small. A quote of £45K was received. Some weeks later, following a further meeting, BB was told that to make the PE cupboard useable space, the cost would be £79K. BB invited Fraser Long’s assistant, Christine, from Banbury, to look at the kitchen – she said it was not too small and the school would be looking at a cost of c£20K to make it useable. Noted that CaterLink are contracted to provide healthy, good quality meals, which has not been the case : LC will monitor, and SAR will take forward matter of new kitchen with Paul Colcannon, Fraser Long, and Christine.Action : SAR/LC

EJW arrived at 4.10 pm

(v) Road Safety : LC reported that Y3 have come up with some interesting ideas and said she will circulate details : agreed school staff should take forward.Action : LC

6. Mission StatementGovernors approved the Mission Statement.

Noted that children have had input re the school logo and this will be looked at again in September. It was agreed that for special events, school outings, etc. all children should wear the same uniform, Summer or Winter as appropriate.

7. Budget updateThe Budget spreadsheet had previously been circulated. Although the DBMAC had said they would finance some of the CPD, when they did not BB decided it should be continued anyway because the school has to have it; she said she will continue this into next year as well. Monthly budget updates are essential, and there has been some overspend on CPD. SAR had raised the issue with the DBMAC, who promised funding of £20K, which was budgeted for, but then it had been taken away. Staff development needs to be in the region

of 20% of salaries : this is such an important area it should be dealt with at Academy level. BB confirmed that although the school started with 20% because the DBMAC had put in money for T&L, it had later been removed. SAR pointed out that the school has progressed in terms of results due to staff development which the school funded; SU confirmed just how valuable the training is. Governors agreed that they expect to receive monthly budget updates in order to make informed decisions.

GN returned at 4.35 pm

BB reported that there will be a Health & Wellbeing training course which Governors are invited to attend on 4 September - other schools will also be attending.

Noted that the Academy has put in a request to Tesco for money for MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area). Governors agreed there is need to look at the Playground and also other areas within the school which would then become a 5-Year Plan : there should be a Governor lead with the Architect on this.

EJW was thanked for all her hard work and support over the last 4 years and presented with a gift and card from the Governors.

EJW left at 4.45 pm

8. Principal’s Report

Previously circulated and attached at Appendix A.

There had been an excellent recent Staff Meeting when the need to increase time with support staff had been emphasized. A MUGA area for Soft Play was proposed. All teachers are now working on the new Marking Policy. Prayer spaces are being introduced this week, as well as Growth Mind Sets for PE and Sport across the school. Partnerships with other schools are improving. Helen Skertchly had given a talk about Special Needs : BB undertook to circulate.

West Kidlington – noted that there is a Covenant on the land to allow STM access but this was stopped when the gate was taken away. A previous Head will know about details of the Covenant and it was agreed that SU/AC should take forward with her.

Foundation Stage, KS1 including Phonics and KS2 were broadly in line or above.

Q. Will this data provide evidence that we are stretching the pupils of middle and lower abilities as well as high achievers?

A. They far exceeded the expectation, and some of the SEN children did really well.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE QUALITY OF TEACHING?

Report on how well teaching promotes learning, progress and enjoyment for all pupils Outcomes of monitoring and

evaluation e.g. curriculum audits / reviews, learning walks, lesson observations, work scrutiny, pupil voice.

Lesson observations, book trawls in literacy and data indicate that progress overtime for the majority of children is good.

Feedback to staff individually and as a school have taken place. Differentiation for less able and more able highlighted as continued area for development

Feedback to staff individually and as a school have taken place on lesson observations in Maths and Literacy. Differentiation for less able and more able highlighted as continued area for development. Pupil Premium and SEN groups book trawl

EYFS Consultant validated that teaching and learning is good. Primary Support Team to continue to support alongside the SLT for areas that need to be

developed further (understanding progression within a lesson, text based planning, support for spelling, phonics training for support staff, use of CLICK in maths, challenge within a lesson in maths

The Maths Calculation Policy is in the process of being updated with all staff (see staff meeting minutes)

Work scrutiny targeting PP AND SEN has taken place in literacy and maths and science takes place this term. Feedback to staff on main findings followed up and further monitoring to take place later next term as a follow up in literacy

The recent Section 48 indicate that teaching and learning needs to be developed in relation to AT2 which identifies how the children relate to the teachings of Jesus on their lives and on those around them

Whilst data at each keystage has improved, writing in particulary has significantly improved showing impact on strategies implemented this year, children need to take more ownership of their curriculum and it needs to be differentiated more effectively to maximise learning across the school

Dinnertime supervision needs to be improved and therefore the SLT will change the TA timetable to support at lunchtimes

One prospective parent complained that they didn’t feel the school welcomed them sufficiently (I have discussed this with the Chair) . I have written to Father Veasey and added a question to the questionnaire for parents evening to determine if this was a bigger issue. The question added was ‘Do you think that the school is approachable? Hopefully this will help us see what the parents experience of interaction with the school is like.

The children have focussed on anti-bullying this week where they have learnt songs, made posters, discussed what this means in the various forms, such as cyber bullying, taken part in assembly and sent prayers to SJC to each class from them.
