Dream Job

By: Jessica Chen and Morgan Bailey

What does it mean to be successful?

That had always been on my mind ever since I had landed that high-paying job at the firm.Sure, I was making the big bucks, driving a snazzy car, and going out to fancy dinners with clients.I was working at anyone’s dream job – my co-workers would gladly kill to be the office favorite.

I typed away at the computer in front of me,

trying very hard to not to make eye contact with the people in the cubicles next to me.

The silence from my keyboard had stretched on for way too long.

Have my co-workers already discovered my daydreaming?

What will they think of me? Do they think I am trying to dodge work?

Keep going. Keep typing. Put on that façade once again.

The pen dropped from my fingers. I ducked down instinctively to pick it up before it could clatter across the office floor. Would it really matter if I held on to this job? Did it really matter that I drove the best cars, ate the best food, and dated the best man if I wasn’t truly enjoying life?

Was this really success?

A part of me couldn’t make myself think so.

I was tired.

So very tired.

I got up from my cubicle, ignoring the stares that followed me. Without even giving them the benefit of a glance,I walked to my boss’s office, knocked once, and let myself in.

Today, I will be done with everything.

Yolo.
