The Man Behind the Theorem
• Born in 1909 to a Supreme Court justice of the same name in Seattle, WA.
• He published obtained a PH.D., taught, published several books, and lectured.
•However, Calvin S. Hall, Jr.’s contribution to dream research will not be considered history for a long while.
•He died in 1985, retired in Santa Cruz, CA. His wife was estranged and died before him. His daughter is still alive.
Content Overview
• Do to his background in physiology, Hall thought that dreams were cognitive thoughts that could teach us about ourselves.
• They were also hints at what lie behind the doors to our unconscious mind.
• His work categorizes dreams into five different areas or principles of life.
• Those are Concepts of Self, Concepts of Other People, Concepts of The World, Concepts of Impulses, Prohibitions, and Penalties, and Concepts of Problems and Conflicts.
