The dream of the Midianite
Sharing the dream
• Judges 7:13 (NKJV)
• 13 And when Gideon had come, there was a man telling a dream to his companion. He said, “I have had a dream: To my surprise, a loaf of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian; it came to a tent and struck it so that it fell and overturned, and the tent collapsed.”
The Symbols
Key Words:
• I have had a dream (a Midianite)– A vivid dream
• To my surprise (emotion)– Out of nowhere
• Tumbled (action that cause surprise)– a sudden downfall
• Tent Collapsed (result of the impact)– Enemy defeated.
The Interpretation
• Judges 7:14 (NKJV)14 Then his companion answered and said, “This is nothing else but the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel! Into his hand God has delivered Midian and the whole camp.”
A loaf of barley was the food of the poor. In this case represents Gideon and the Israelites. They were despised.
Jesus, The Bread of Life
• John 6:35 (NKJV)• 35 And Jesus said to them, “I am
the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
The Tent
• Represented the authority of the Generals, the place where they do their plans to go riding against the Israelites.
• The plans were overturned, they killed between themselves, and the whole camp was devastated.
Judges 7:15 (NKJV)
• 15 And so it was, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel, and said, “Arise, for the LORD has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand.”
Gideon’s reaction
• First thing Gideon does after hearing the dream and its interpretation is to worship God.
• Then he returns to the camp.• Addresses the Israelites to get
ready to attack the enemy’s camp.
Conclusion
• Gideon never questioned the dream interpretation.
• As The lord had said, his hands were strengthened.
• He transfers confidence to his people.
• He’s ready to attend the mandate the Lord gave to him.
