Dreamweaver – Creating New Pages

• Creating new pages is easy

• Choose the File menu and choose New file

• Or

• Hold down Ctrl and Shift and the N key

• Your first file will come up with the name untitled.html

• Most sites insist that your home page be called index.html

• Click on the file name, delete the untitled part and type in index

• Then place your cursor on the little green icon for that file and right click

• Choose Set as home page

• Now use Ctrl + Shift + N to create new pages and rename them according to the headings you decided on for your home page

• NOTE: Avoid spaces in your filenames. If you have to use them use an underscore mark instead since many servers reject files with spaces. E.g. use recent_events for recent events

• When you have added all the files you want to go to the icon in the upper left hand corner and switch to Site Map view

• If you se nothing click on the icon to the immediate left of the site map icon to return to the file view. Now right click the green icon of the index file and choose Set as Home Page

• Now try the site map icon again

• Now we are going to create links from our main page to other pages

• Right click on your index file and choose Link to Existing File

• You will see a new icon created.

• Go back and right click the index file and choose another of your files. Repeat until you have all your files included in your site map

• You can check on the pages by double clicking them. You will notice that if you double click the index page you will see that a number of links have already been created.

• If you double click the other pages, you will not see any links.

• To create links on these pages click once on the page then click on the little circle that pops up on the right side of the icon and drag to the page you want to link to.
