New DevelopmentIn addition to renovating and rebranding existing properties, Driftwood has extensive expertise in the areas of new-builds and new developments. EB-5In late 2014, Driftwood announced the launch of DEB5 Development, LLC, an EB-5 affiliate branch that allows foreign investors to participate in new-build hotel developments across the United States. The company’s first venture was the $22.2 million 123-room Residence Inn by Marriott Hotel.

As part of the EB-5 program, foreign investors are required to invest a minimum of $1 million – or $500,000, if funds are invested in certain rural or high-unemployment areas. EB-5 investors are then granted a conditional visa that is valid for two years once their application has been approved by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Investors

are eligible to apply for permanent U.S. resident status given they demonstrate that the legally required economic benefits of their investments have been achieved. Through these ventures, investors have the opportunity to positively impact the regional and national economy by creating new jobs or saving positions that would otherwise be eliminated from the workforce.
