development of oil industry and oil science not only in the republic but also in different

countries of the world. A high scientific-technical potential and wide experience of scientists and specialists gained during long years are the guarantee of the modern level to solve complicated scientific and project-technical tasks of complex development of oil fields in different mining-geological conditions. The use of modern equipment together with advanced software makes it possible to perform works at a high level and under tight deadlines. During many years the main tasks of the institute are continuous development, extension of investigations spectrum, development and application of innovative technologies as well as issues related to environment protection.

NİPİ "Neftegas" performs fundamental and application investigations to solve one of the most important tasks of national economy – formations recovery increase. A new scientific approach to create effective oil-sweeping compositions has been proposed. New industrial technologies to increase formations recovery have been developed. The technologies are applied in real practice of development of fields in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Western Siberia, Russia, Turkmenistan and other countries. Additional several million tons of oil have been produced due to their application.

The unique properties of ultra-dispersed powders of metals and metal-containing materials have been determined. The ways to obtain and manage the properties of highly active adsorbents based on ultra-dispersed powders of aluminum have been developed. New technologies to clean water from oil and oil products based on adsorbents of different types (fibrous and powder) have been developed. The complex of ways to eliminate the results of oil and oil products outflows at their transportation and storage has been developed. The technology to clean waste waters from oil products has been developed.

The reagents developed in the institute laboratories provide removal of asphaltene-resin-paraffin deposits in hard-to-reach and deepwater oil pipelines and wells tubing, are effective at low temperatures, in static and dynamic conditions, have protective properties against hydrosulphuric and bactericidal corrosion. .

Of great importance are the processes related with production, gathering and transportation of commercial oil to a consumer, effectiveness and reliability of main pipeline transport operation, the cost of commercial oil and the quality of products obtained from it. At final stages of oil fields development the content of water may reach 90% and more, at the same time the crude delivered to the units of field treatment of oil is characterized not only with the variety of physical-chemical properties but also with the change of its composition with time. Special demulsifiers to break oil emulsions have been developed.

Corrosion control is not only the prolongation of oil-and-gas field equipment service life, reduction of operation costs to repair it, improvement of performance indicators of oil production and field treatment.

Purpose: Due to managed structural-mechanical and colloid-chemical properties allow failure-free drilling to target depth. The use helps to protect the reservoir properties of productive horizons, to prevent falls and cave-in, as well as mud-loss. Due to nano- filming in productive horizon mud filtrate inflow in place is significantly reduced. Nano systems prevent shale swelling, create a protective shield against formation contamination. They allow free movement of the drill string in the wellbore due to a sharp decrease in the friction coefficient in the filter cake.

Nanostructured Drilling Fluids for Well-Drilling in Off-Normal Conditions

Purpose:

The Advantages: It gives opportunity to control conventional, plastic, effective

viscosity. Control of static and dynamic shear stress, drill fluid water

loss. Thixotropy correction, which largely determines the

intensity of cutting particles rise through the annulus. Sharp reduction of friction in filter cake - drill string contact,

providing free movement of the column in the wellbore.

Complication and accident-free drilling of pay zones largely depends on structural-mechanical and colloid-chemical properties of drilling fluids. Drilling fluids are the major source of oil and gas horizons’ pollution, so we need to achieve science-based control of complex parameters of the relevant object. However introduction of nanotechnologies in drilling provides prospects for novel effects in the marked areas.

The general object for application of nanotechnology in drilling is control of drilling fluids parameters to ensure trouble-free drilling and elimination of complications, as well as to ensure commissioning of the wells reached the target depth at the earliest possible date. To this effect we have developed and actually implemented in the wells systems "Nano-oil", "Nano-tar", "Nano-May." The benefits of the these systems are that they do not form salt deposits in the collectors, prevent swelling of clay beds, form a shield in the pore space, and at the expense of needed thixotropic properties provide intensive removal of cuttings.

One of the general properties of suggested drilling muds is formation of cake having minimal friction coefficient, which in turn provides normal downhole motion of the drill string and tool.

Utilization of systems "Nano-oil", "Nano-tar" and "Nano-May" provides:

preservation of mud density which is the main hydrodynamic factor. control of relative, plastic, effective viscosity, static and dynamic

shear stress. No additional reagent consumption needed. increase of thixotropy factor provides intensive removal of cuttings

from the annulus. This results in improved washover capabilities. drastic fall of filter cake friction coefficient results in a better use of

drilling tools and drill string. foaming in such drilling fluids is not observed.

The «Nano-oil» system consisting of crude oil and metal nanoparticles provides a trouble-free drilling and reduction of drilling problems. Along with this normal drilling motion is provided.

Friction coefficient of filter cake therefore is reduced by several times.Prevention of clay swelling in oil and gas reservoirs impedes formation of

insoluble gels in the pore space.«Nano-oil» System in a liquid form is dark brown and allows control of

rheotechnological and tribotechnical parameters of water-based drilling fluids, stabilize clays, and is used to prevent balling.

Purpose:

Advantages: A shield prevents formation of salt deposits in the reservoir and prevents

pore space contamination and clay swelling; Control of drilling mud rheology; Increase of wellbore stability; Reduction of mud cake thickness increases flexibility significantly

reducing the friction coefficient, as well as ensures free movement of the tool in the wellbore;

High thixotropic properties provide intensive removal of cuttings and saving them in suspension;

Reduced solution viscosity (plastic, effective and relative).

The «Nano-bitumen» system, consisting of natural bitumen and metal nanoparticles, is designed for drilling in geological structures with abnormally low formation pressure which are in long-term use and exhibit absorption and fracturing. The key advantage of the system is in a reliable screen formed in front of the collector and a sharp reduction in the range of filtrate access into the collector. The «Nano-bitumen» System reduces friction coefficient of the drilling fluid, produces early turbulence and "nano-memory».

We have deeply analyzed the current situation concerning preparation of drilling fluids in the course of drilling operations held in deep offshore fixed platforms, control over parameters. The use of chemical reagents and materials was studied as well. The analysis results show that a sufficient amount of waste engine oil remains due to usage of diesel-driven units on deep offshore fixed platforms. Reuse of these oils is impossible, and they are delivered onshore by water.

Numerous investigations have shown that the waste oil may serve as a useful «carrier» fluid for nano-particles. As a result a «Nano-May» system was developed, regulating structural and mechanical and colloid-chemical mud peoperties. Numerous studies have shown that the «Nano-May» system as well as «Nano-oil» and «Nano-bitumen» has a simple preparation technology in drilling conditions and economically is more favorable.

«Nano-May» system as a liquid is dark gray, and allows control of rheotechnological and tribotechnical parameters of water-based drilling fluids, stabilizes clays, and is used to prevent the formation of pads.

The «Nano-Buffer (shock absorber)» composition has been developed for separation of various density drilling muds and mortars and removal of cuttings and clay bands from wells. The composition consists of a high polymer, inhibitor, 40-60 nm grade nanoparticles and brine with the following technical parameters.

Nano-Cement

Nano-cement compositions have been developed for well casing under anomalously high and low reservoir pressures. Composition consisting of Portland cement, water and electrolyte fluid additionally contains specific size metal nanoparticles and exhibits controllable rheo- technological properties.

Purpose:

Advantages: It is a sustainable system in an environment of high temperatures and

pressures, as well as high salinity formation water. Unlike known compositions Portland cement exhibits minimum

permeability. It possesses high strength parameters.

Solid Phase Free Completion Fluid

A composition of perforating fluid has been developed to increase the efficiency and quality of well completion activities. The adjustable structural-mechanical

Advantages: Blend composition allows density control within 1000-2100 kg / m3. Natural permeability of the productive horizon is preserved. It prevents swelling of clay shales. It reduces exploration time. Intensified oil filtration in the bottom-hole area.

Smaller Density Polymer-Emulsion Drilling Mud

Thin clay drilling mud consisting of primary and co-surfactants, nanoparticles, electrolytes, hydrocarbon material and water allow drilling in formations with anomalously low formation and pore pressures.

Purpose:

Advantages: Minimum repression on the producing formation. Intensive transportation of drilled particles from the bottom to the

wellhead due to suitable thixotropic properties. Increased rate of penetration. Preservation of reservoir properties of productive horizons. High inhibiting properties.

Light-Weight Cement Slurries

The compositions of lightweight cement slurries have been developed for temporary loss control, as well as cementing thief zones prior to pumping high-density cement slurries. They possess controlled reo physical properties, and refer to resource-saving technologies.

Purpose:

Advantages: Sharp reduction of reagent consumption - fluid loss reducing agents. Strength properties of cement paste are within the permissible limits as

compared to the known analogs.

A water-based sealant composition has been proposed for drilling mud treatment applied in zones of loss.
