Configuring Tablet Properties Install Carrier and Manufacturer Updates Prior to configuring the tablet and installing DriverMate, ensure that all provider and manufacturer

updates have been downloaded and installed on the tablet.

Page 6: DRIVERMATE INSTALLATION GUIDE - TripSpark

GPS, DriverMate is also able to calculate the vehicles mileage throughout the day. In order to accurately

calculate location and mileage ensure the following settings are enabled.

Ensure Location is enabled and ‘Mode’ is set to ‘High Accuracy’

Page 7: DRIVERMATE INSTALLATION GUIDE - TripSpark

Some tablets support ‘Auto Brightness’ if this is an option, it should be enabled.

Page 8: DRIVERMATE INSTALLATION GUIDE - TripSpark

8

Set Screen Timeout Set the amount of time before the screen times out. Generally for paratransit operations, this will be

set to the maximum allowable time.

In the Settings screen:

Go to ‘Device’ > ‘Display’ > ‘Screen Timeout’

Set to the maximum allowable setting

Set Notification Sound DriverMate utilizes Android notifications in order to alert drivers of changes to their manifest and text

messages. In order to ensure drivers hear audible alerts, Android Notifications must be enabled.

Page 9: DRIVERMATE INSTALLATION GUIDE - TripSpark

9

Open the Settings screen:

Select the ‘Device’ tab

Select ‘Notifications’

Select an appropriate Notification sound.

Set Volume Verify that volume is loud enough for drivers to hear.

Page 10: DRIVERMATE INSTALLATION GUIDE - TripSpark

10

Disable Multi-Window Newer Android versions support multi-window mode which allows users to quickly switch between

applications. Most Paratransit sites prefer to disable this in order to prevent drivers from closing

DriverMate and launching other applications.

To disable:

Open the ‘Settings’ screen

Select the ‘Device’ tab and disable Multi Window

Allow Installation from Unknown Sources Prior to installing DriverMate you will need to ensure the tablet can install applications not downloaded

from ‘Google’s Play Store’.

To allow the DriverMate application to install:

Open the Settings screen

Go to the ‘General’ tab > ‘Security’

Select the option ‘Unknown Sources’.

11

Disable VZ Navigator (Specific to tablets using Verizon Wireless) VZ Navigator is generally pre-installed on Verizon Wireless tablets. When a driver attempts to access

turn by turn directions, a prompt will appear asking whether to use VZ Navigator or Google Navigation.

By default DriverMate utilizes Google Navigation, therefore VZ Navigator should be disabled.

To disable:

Open ‘Settings’

Select ‘Application Manager’

Scroll across to ‘All’

Select ‘VZ Navigator’

Page 12: DRIVERMATE INSTALLATION GUIDE - TripSpark

12

Select ‘Disable’

Use the Back button to close out of the settings screen.

Disable AT&T Navigator (Specific to tablets using AT&T Wireless) Similar to VZ Navigator, AT&T also preinstall’s a navigation program on their tablets. This application will

need to be disabled similar to VZ Navigator.

Open the ‘Settings’:

Select ‘Application Manager’

Scroll across to ‘All’

Select ‘AT&T Navigator’

Switch from ‘Enable’ to ‘Disable’

Page 13: DRIVERMATE INSTALLATION GUIDE - TripSpark

13

Use the Back button to close out of the settings screen.

Set up Google Mapping DriverMate utilizes Google mapping in order to provide Drivers with turn by turn directions, mapping

and real time traffic. When first launching Google Maps, you will prompted to accept Googles Terms

and Conditions. Doing this during the initial tablet configuration ensures drivers will not be prompted

when loading maps.

Delete Home Screens By default the tablet will come with home screens and shortcuts to specific applications.

Page 14: DRIVERMATE INSTALLATION GUIDE - TripSpark

14

To delete:

Pinch on one of the screens

This will bring up a screen with all home screens displayed

icon from the list of applications and dropping on a home screen.

Configuring DriverMate Installing

To Install DriverMate:

Connect a tablet to your computer using the USB cable that came with the tablet

Copy the MdtPass.apk file (provided by Trapeze) to the \Download folder on the tablet

After the .apk file has been downloaded, disconnect the tablet from the computer.

NOTE – you can also set up an email account on the tablet, in which case you could email the .apk file to

each tablet instead of downloading through USB.

Page 15: DRIVERMATE INSTALLATION GUIDE - TripSpark

Preventing Drivers from Accessing Other Programs on the Tablet With the release of Android version 4.0 the Home button has been hardcoded within the Operating

System and therefore cannot be disabled. DriverMate can be configured to launch automatically when

the tablet is powered on and put the tablet into stand by when attempting to close, however a driver

would still be able to access the Home screen through the use of the Home button.

There are applications available through the Google Play Store which can lock down specific

applications. ‘Smart App Protector’ is a utility where, when enabled applications require a password in

order to be launched. If you choose to install one of these applications, DriverMate requires access to

the following, and therefore should not be included in the ‘protected’ applications
