Now that we drivers in the South are winding down our competi-tive season, the Northerners are just getting under way with Glad-stone and Elk Creek. Best of luck to all you snow birds. I will keep up with all your accomplishment through Driving News. See you in the fall.

The club is in search of new places to have pleasure drives. If you have any ideas please contact me or any of the board members.

Trot on and keep cool. SuzanSuzanSuzanSuzan

ADC Education

Committee by Teri Merry

I want to thank all of the Education Committee members that helped to make your ideas

an ADC Education Night reality. The Education Committee includes Diane Mansur, Rebecca

Gutierrez, Mary Anne Boyden, and me. Our next Education Night series will start in Sep-

tember. You may recall that we sent out an email survey to all members last year and re-

ceived lots of great ideas. We thank you for your insightful suggestions! Please keep your

thinking caps on for topics you would like presented during our 2016-17 Education Night

series. We will ask for your ideas when we get closer to arranging new topics starting this

Fall. Until then, hope every day this summer brings you a smile.

Welcome to Cathy Brock – your ADC Newsletter editor–

A Good Move

First, Aiken Driving Club is not only lucky to have Cathy

Brock, but lucky to have her doing our Newsletter. She was

born in Maryland but has lived in Virginia, Chicago and

elsewhere. Her husband is “Harry” a Military man. Need I

say more? Finally settling on “Carry On Farm” Cathy says,

because all her horses with all their moves had to be carried on.

Cathy always had horses. In fact when she & Harry married, she went with him and her horse. Cathy has

had a horse or two since the age of 12. She always rode English. At the age of 14, she started showing at lo-

cal Hunter Shows. She & Harry have a daughter and a son, both still living in the Chicago area.

We hope her last move to Aiken (Windsor) was for keeps. They moved here when Harry retired, to escape

the cold. The ADC is “Lucky” she had a freak accident and survived a benign brain tumor. She thought her

time with horses was over. (not so Cathy) Also lucky, her realtor, Pricilla Denehy, found her first mini.

(Pippen) She now owns another Mini, Bilbo (Billy) for her husband. Cathy has volunteered at Katydid, and

the Windsor Trace CDES and has taken part in the Monster Mini, and owes much to Janelle & Muffy for

teaching her to Drive. Her main objective is not to be eliminated & says she considers herself a

“recreational” driver.

She and Harry have 2 boys (Minis) and hope Muffy can make a successful pair of them.

Cathy says that fortitude counts and love of horses helps too!

Stick to it, Cathy!

Re-

Driving into the Sunset by Kitty Corbett, [email protected],

When you are ready for a retirement community in which you can keep your horse

and avoid the "heavy lifting" that accompanies horse-keeping and the sport of car-

riage driving, wouldn't it be great to downsize into a retirement community made

especially to order for you? No kids, no yard or farm maintenance work, no steps

to climb; just an efficient home, with a private courtyard and some open outdoor

living space, with your horses and vehicles in a nearby community barn. Yes,

there would be an assessment to pay for the labor required to maintain the prop-

erty and care for the horses; But you would own your own home A few of you

have already indicated your interest. I would like to get together a group of cur-

rent members who are interested, Carriage driving requirements are somewhat

harder to come by, but equestrians of other disciplines would be welcome. I'm

putting my name on the list and pushing for this . Please email me at your first

convenience. if you are also interested. Your thoughts, comments and recommen-

dations on subject will also be appreciated. How many are we? Should we find a

developer, or form a partnership? With all the talent we have within our ranks,

do we need a land planner? We do for sure need to have a meeting to discuss, so

let's start there very soon.
