DRUG ABUSE………..

Page 2: Drug Abuse Final

WHY DRUG ABUSE… Because many people do not understand

why or how other people become addicted to drugs.

It is often mistakenly assumed that drug abusers lack moral principles or will power and that they could stop using drugs simply by choosing to change their behavior. But in reality, drug addiction is a complex disease and quitting takes more than good intensions or a strong will.

Difficulties faced Initially we had some confusions regarding the selection

of topics. Some topics we took lacked social responsibility, and a couple of subjects we considered had already been approved to other teams

The various topics proposed are: 1. Skin care 2. Energy conservation 3. Rain water harvesting 4. Brain drain 5. Food adulteration 6. Eye Checkup Camp

Finding a doctor for taking seminar in the college campus was a tedious job

While the screening took place the speakers didn’t have enough volume.

Selecting a movie related to our topic was a challenging task. We had to select a movie that primarily focuses on drug addiction and also gave a good message to the viewers.

Page 9: Drug Abuse Final

How did we tackle the difficulties?Even though our initial proposals were not approved we were highly motivated and immediately came up with new proposals.

For selecting the movie we approached many of our friends for their suggestions and searched through net. We set up some criteria for the movie which were as follows:1.Movie content 2.Social responsibilities 3.Appealing to the viewers4.Well known actor5.Rating6.Good message to the viewersAnd finally we came up with the movie “The Basketball Diaries”.

When the sound transmission from laptop to sound system didn’t function properly, we placed the microphone over the speaker of the laptop and solved the problem.

The helping hand extended by Biju Swamy had a great impact in our project. Swamy helped us in finding the right person for the seminar.

The talk was made compulsory for a batch during the seminar as the timing of the talk was during the class-hours. Hence we ensured a fair participation for the seminar.

SCOPE OF IMPROVING PROJECTThe same project can be extended to school level and more awareness campaigns can be carried out.

We could have created a rehab centre or conducted a counseling session for those who were already involved in drugs but it takes time and resources to do such things.
