Mechanism of action:

Fluticasone, a synthetic trifluorinated coritcos-teriod, has a potent anti-inflammatory activ-ity. Corticosteroids have been shown to inhibit mast cells, eosinophils, basphils, lymphocytes, macrophages & neu-trophils. they also in-hibit production or se-cretion of cell mediators such as histamine, leukotienes, cytokines & eicosanoids.

Uses:

Asthma

Nursing Implications:

Contraindications: Hyper-sensitivity to fluticasone furoate or to any other components of the prod-uct.

Common side effects: Musculoskeletal: Backache

Neurologic: Headache

Respiratory: Cough, Epistaxis, Pain, Pharyngolaryngeal, Ulcerated nasal mu-cosa

Other: Fever

Teaching Indications:

Instruct patient to avoid exposure to chicken pox and measles during drug therapy. If exposure occurs, patient must notify his or her physician immediately.

Drug may cause candidiasis, impaired wound healing, nasal septal perforation.

Inform patient to report signs/symptoms of infection or hypersensitivity (anaphylaxis, angioendema, rash, & urticaria).

Advise patient to report any changes in vision, as drug may cause glaucoma and cataracts.
