For the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and renal disease, including the nephrotic syndrome. Also for the treatment of hypertension alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. Contraindicated with allergy to furosemide, sulfonamides, allergy to tartrazine, anuria, and severe renal failure Adverse effects: GI: anorexia, pancreatitis. Endo: hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia Hemat: APLASTIC ANEMIA, AGRANULOCYTOSIS, hemolytic anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia . Neuro: paresthesia. Side Effects: CNS: blurred vision, dizziness, headache, vertigo. EENT: hearing loss, tinnitus. CV: hypotension. GI: constipation, diarrhea, dry PRE- ADMINISTRATION Check doctor’s order Observe 10 Rs INTRA- ADMINISTRATION Give early in the day so that increased urination will not disturb sleep. POST ADMINISTRATION Assess fluid status. Monitor daily weight, intake and output ratios, amount and location of edema, lung sounds, skin turgor, and mucous membranes.
