Online module for team that focus on the three pillars of Dual Language Education used by successful programs.

CARLA Institute (summer 2019)
A training for new immersion teachers (5 day) and administrators (3 day) that focuses on program goals, models, and benefits and challenges. Teachers receive focused curriculum development and hear from a mentor teacher panel.

Curriculum Writing District teachers with bilingual licensure will meet with the consultant to write current curriculum and create new curriculum in Spanish and select resources.

Sample Application Process
Madison Metropolitan School District • Application Process: The Dual Language Immersion program is open to all
MMSD students; however, it is only available at certain schools and grade levels. Students living outside of the attendance area of the schools may apply; however, students living within each attendance area are given preference into the DLI program.
• Every student in the classroom is a model of their native language and a learner of a second language. This student makeup is essential for the design and success of the program. Therefore, as a part of the lottery process, the classrooms are built at a 50:50 to 60:40 ratio based on language background.

• 3/01/18: Attend Parent Night • 4/1/18: Return the Parent Commitment form
• Criteria for EnrollmentChildren will be accepted into the Bilingual Program in the following order:1. Incoming Menasha Joint School District Kindergarten students who currently have
siblings enrolled in the bilingual program2. Incoming Menasha Joint School District Kindergarten students who do not have
siblings in the bilingual program3. Students from outside the Menasha Joint School District that currently have
siblings enrolled in the bilingual program4. Students from outside the Menasha Joint School District that do not have siblings
in the bilingual program
Sample Application Process
Verona Area School District• The linguistic make-up of TWI classrooms consists of approximately 50% students
from Spanish-speaking homes and 50% students from English-speaking homes (including homes in which a language other than Spanish is spoken).
• Families from all attendance areas in the district may request placement in the TWI program.
• Students in attendance areas for the 2 schools have preferential placement. • Application timeline: January 11 - February 16 to be considered for the
upcoming lottery.• VASD provides transportation to students in the TWI program per Board policy.

Board Direction
The Dual Immersion Committee will need Board direction to continue building the scope of a Dual Immersion Program. To move forward the committee is requesting commitment to:
