From the Principal’s Desk Welcome back – I trust you have all had a restful break and are ready for the term ahead. Staff returned to school on Monday and engaged in various professional learning activities. Teachers had the opportunity to hear Dr Michael Carr- Gregg – a leading child and adolescent psychologist along with Gregory Nicolau, a Melbourne based consultant psychologist and psychotherapist. These keynote speakers and additional masterclasses focused on staff and student wellbeing. Our School Learning Support Officers completed online training on Autism and attended a workshop on Sensory Processing Difficulties presented by Danielle Pears- an occupational therapist from Community Health. Such staff development days are invaluable in upskilling staff around current educational matters with the aim of providing students with an increased capacity to learn effectively. Term 2 promises to be yet another busy term with NAPLAN, Cross Country Carnival and our Multicultural Day high on the agenda. I look forward to catching up with you all this term. Have a great week! School Bus Safety School buses pick up and drop off children on roads all across NSW. Buses use signs and flashing lights to warn drivers that they are picking up and dropping off children. You must slow down to 40km/h when bus lights flash and look out for children crossing the road. Be Bus Aware and help keep our kids safe. The Safety Town website has more information for families on driving safely around buses, and getting children to and from the bus stop safely.

Woolworths Earn and Learn We are excited to be taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program. During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to you. From now until June 25th 2019, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect on a special sticker sheet. DA VINCI DECATHLON

On Wednesday, 3 April, Dubbo Public School had the good fortune to participate in the NSW Regional da Vinci Decathlon

held at Scots All Saints College, Bathurst.

The team consisted of the following Year 6 students: Arlen Quill (captain), Jasmine Shepherd, Milly Schulz, Rocco Wrigley, Max

McAneney, Riley Dodd, Lucy Eather and Charley Elliott.

It was a very early start for the team as they had to leave Dubbo by 6am to arrive in Bathurst by 8:30 for registration.

The day was divided into three sessions. The first session involved challenges in the areas of Science, Creative Producers

(drama), English and Ideation. Session two involved Art and Poetry, Mathematics, Engineering and Cartography (mapping).

The final session of the day saw the team try their hand at Code Breaking and test their General Knowledge.

Dubbo Public School achieved some amazing results with first place in Science and Creative Producers and third place in Maths

and Ideation. The tournament organiser, Mr Phillip Cant, was extremely impressed with the team work Dubbo Public School

displayed throughout the competition and made a special note of telling me this, as well as congratulating DPS in his final

address during the presentations.

I would like to say a huge thankyou to Mrs Lana Eather, who helped to transport the team to Bathurst, without her support we

would not have been able to attend.

Finally a big congratulations to our da Vinci team who were a fine example of what it is to be a Safe, Respectful Learner.

Well done!

Mrs Young

On Friday 5th April some year 5 and 6 students were selected to go to the Western Science and Engineering

Discovery Day. When we got there we were split up into groups of 3. The idea of these groups was to earn

points on each activity for the school. We each got a coloured wristband to represent what group you were

in. Everyone did two different half day activities with their group. Our group did a bridge building competition,

where we had a limited amount of materials to make a bridge which would have different weighted trains go

over it. We then did an electricity challenge where we had to communicate to our team about electricity needs

and try and not overload the system. Dubbo Public School finished 2nd overall. We were all so happy. Thank

you Mrs Shepherd for taking us.
