Orientation for our 2018 Kindergarten students is underway and many students and parents have been dropping in on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoon to experience our school. It was great to see so many parents with their children. Expo days will be held this week, offering our kindergarten parents lots of information on our school and the programs offered. I look forward to catching up with you. YARN UP in our OLGA—a get together will be held on Wednesday afternoon commencing at 3.30pm. If you are dropping in for the Kindy Expo continue to our outdoor garden, enjoy a sausage sizzle and a chat. See you there! Travel safely to School: Please take note of our new colourful and helpful signs letting you know where the drop off areas are located. The latest national data show an increase in the number of injuries and deaths occurring around school zones. Please as a driver remain vigilant at all times— mobile phones are a distraction. Always let your children out on the kerb side and always utilise the cross-ings, which are supervised before and after school. We don't wish to have an accident at Dubbo South. Be posi-tive role models for your children. Suggestions and Concerns: If any parents would like to voice a suggestion or indeed a concern or issue please contact the school for a chat to discuss and allow the school to help solve the issue. This will ensure that parents work with the school to move forward and provide a positive solutions for your child and yourself as the parent. Issues cannot be resolved if the school is unaware that a problem or issue exists. We work hard to teach children different strategies on how to solve issues. Bullying is not tolerated within our school and when made aware, we take the appropriate action. It is vital to work together to help support our kids. I encourage you if you have a concern, to speak to your child’s class teacher and if needed, organise a meeting time with an
Executive staff member. We are determined to deliver a safe and positive learning environment for all students. A huge congratulations to Mali Hopkins-Davies and Alexander Blanch for their outstanding effort in the Regional Debating Team.
Have a great week! Sharon Murray, Principal.

Reading to our Children “Australian author Mem Fox says
children need to hear a thousand
stories before they can begin to
learn to read.”
“..reading exposed children to pic-
tures, letters and words, shapes,
sounds and names, and could build
vocabulary and encourage them to talk about what they
can see and think.”
This report also suggests that hearing the same book over
and over helps children to learn about rhythm and
sequences in a book.

No Hat No Play Parents are reminded that this school has a “no hat no play” policy. Those children who come to school without a hat will be requested to sit in a shaded area.
Beach to Bush Stage 1 students have the opportunity to participate in an interactive surf life saving program Beach to Bush. During the 2014-2015 summer period 32% of coastal drowning's were of people who lived more than 50 km away from the coast. The program will be held at the RSL Theatrette next Friday 24th November. The program is free however $3 is required for the bus charge. The children will also enjoy a picnic lunch in Victoria Park and rotational sport activities before returning to school. What a great day! Please return all permission notes and money by this Friday 17th November.
Year 2 Swimming Following from the assessment day held last week our Year 2 students will be participating in a two week learn to swim program from Monday 27th November to Friday 8th December. The total cost of the program is $66 which is required to be paid in full prior to the commencement of the program. Payments can be made in instalments. Those children with pool passes will need only pay for the bus at the cost of $33. Please provide your teacher with a copy of your pool pass. The children are required to wear their school uniform to school and bring their swimmers, towel, sunscreen and thongs in a bag. PLEASE AVOID ORDERING LUNCHES FOR YOUR CHILDREN OVER THE TWO WEEKS. PACKED LUNCHES WOULD BE A PREFERRED OPTION AS THE PROGRAM IS BEING RUN OVER THE LUNCH PERIOD.
Office Hours 8.45am to 3.30pm.
Poster Competition This term the Project Based Learning classes entered into the SSA National Schools Poster competition. Students had to create posters showcasing their use of data and statistics when solving a real world problem. They designed their own questions and formulated experiments to help them to solve their problem. The inquiry process was amazing and some of the results were very impressive. These posters will be on display in the school playground next week for you to see what Stage 2 and 3 students can create.
Engineers Without Borders Students in Stage 3 will be participating in a workshop run by a team of 4 university students from the University of NSW. Each module provides a great way to see how science concepts can be used in the real world. These may include application such as: Renewable Energy where students create a prototype wind turbine which can be tested to show LED lights glowing proportionally to the energy generated. Floating Houses: A civil engineering activity where students use buoyancy to create a structure that floats and holds weight whilst using minimal construction material. This wonderful opportunity for our Stage 3 students is free of charge.

Multi Sports Day Students from Dubbo South attended the Multi-Sports Day on November 8th at Sports World with a number
of schools from the region. All students participated in sports activities for hockey, AFL, boccia and soccer.
It was a fantastic day and all of our students were respectful and cooperative while they enjoyed learning
new skills and participating in sports with specialised instructors.
