    Dubstep /Oscillation Speed TutorialTaken from (SuperLinuxAudioGuru Channel @

    1. Open Linux Multi-Media Studio (LMMS)

    In the Beat + Bassline Editor click on the first beat of the Default Preset and then open it in the piano roll(Right-ClickOpen in Piano Roll)

    Enter the following pitches in this sequence and duration

    The next portion of the project will work on and explore the Default Preset (Triple Oscillator Plugin) Please readthe following so that you better understand what you are working with. Spend a few moments experimenting with

    the various sounds that you can create. When you are finished trying out a few of the settings, continue with the

    Close the piano Roll and single click on the Default Preset Patch.This should appear. (If a name change dialogue pops up, close it or re-name it

    (To whatever you see fit) and close it.)

    The first panel controls the way the oscillators interact with each other. The

    available settings are:

    Phase Modulation - phase of oscillator is modulated (i.e. phase locallychanges left/right) by sub-oscillator

    Amplitude Modulation - output oscillator and its sub oscillator ismultiplied

    Mixed - The waveforms are added (default) Synchronized - The waveform of the first oscillator is restarted withthe frequency of the second one (the waveform of the second one does not

    matter in this mode)

    Frequency Modulation - frequency of oscillator is modulated (i.e. phase globally changes left/right) by sub-oscillatorThe next three panels are the settings for the three oscillators.

    The waveform generated Vol - (Volume) Amplitude of the waveform. Set to 0 when you don't want to use this oscillator. Pan - (Panning) Affects the stereo panning of the oscillator. Crs - (Coarse) Frequency of the oscillator relative to the note played in semitones FL and FR - Fine-tuning of the frequency for the left and right stereo channel PO - (Phase Offset) Phase offset of the waveform relative to the other oscillators SPD - (Stereo Phase Offset) Phase offset between left and right stereo channelWaveforms

    Sine The "purest" sound. Useful for organ-like instruments. Due to a sine wave being only one exact frequency, normal

    frequency filters have little effect on sine waves.

    Triangle Similar to sine, although a lot less smooth. Useful for string instruments

    Sawtooth A very sharp, "synth-like" sound. Useful for string instruments and generic "synth-like" instruments.

    Pulse/Square wave The typical sound of vintage arcade games. Sounds much less old-fashioned when combined with

    other waveforms. Be cautious, as the square wave will sound a lot louder than the other waves.

    Moog-like Triangle Sounds similar to saw, but can also be used for some organ-like sounds. The shape is due to a

    historic glitch in the analogue circuitry of the original Moog synthesizer.

    Exponential Wave If used correctly, it can be used for softer synths.

    Noise Useful for creating drum beats and other effects like wind (You might prefer to use Kicker for synthesized

    percussion instruments).

    User-defined Double-click to use any sound file as a waveform.

    1. Click the Phase Modulation (PM)Button for both OSC 1 + OSC 2 and OSC 2 + OSC 3

    2. ClickPulse/Square Wave on all Oscillations

    3. Set Course Frequency (Cr) on OSC 1 to -24; Set the FL to -18 and the FR to 0

    4. Click on ENV/LFO; Click the Filter Button and Move the Cutoff towards the center.

    2. In the Triple Oscillator, ENV/LFOright click the CUTOFFConnect to Controllerand connect it Controller 1

    3. In the LFO Control PanelRight Click SPD DialHighlight the Tempo Sync and experiment with different syncs.

    Sync to eighth notes.

    5. Ctrl. Click the Speed Dial in Controller 1 and drag it up to the Automation track that you just created.

    6. Right Click the Automation Track and open the Automation Editor; Experiment with how this works. (See Video for

    help)

    7. When you have a product that sounds acceptable, add a drum beat/groove to it. To do this, add another beat + bass line

    to the song editor window. When you are satisfied, add it to the song editor. \

    8. Save this project as yournamedubstep in the shared folder. A folder with your name does not exist, please create

    one.
