Exhibition Programme. Exhibitions and related workshops and talks are a dynamic part of
Dunamaise Arts Centre’s programme of events each season. Applications from professional
artists, curators, collectives and arts organisations, for solo or group shows are welcome.
Opened in May 1999 and comprising an exhibition gallery, a 240 seat theatre,
workshop spaces and a café, Dunamaise Arts Centre hosts the best in national and
international performing and visual arts. In 2014, we celebrated our 15th anniversary,
encouraging (re)discovery of all that Dunamaise has to offer; continuing to engage our loyal
patrons and welcoming new audiences to enjoy the very best experiences of the arts in
Laois.
The key objectives of Dunamaise Arts Centre’s Visual Arts Programme are:

• Artist fee (to be negotiated at contract stage, and dependent on the scale and
ambition of the proposal).
• Marketing and PR via venue season brochure, website, social media and E-invites.
• Contribution towards transportation of works (costs determined on case by case basis;
domestic only).
• Independent curatorial advice (if required).
• Installation / de-installation is supported by the venue Technical Manager.
• Exhibition Launch / Reception (if appropriate).
• Opportunity for a public engagement event.
• Commission of 25% is charged by Dunamaise Arts Centre on all artwork sales.
Applicants must include sufficient information regarding the following criteria:
Overall Eligibility:
Applications are invited from professional, full-time artists, emerging artists and amateur
artists working in various media/disciplines. Any work by amateur / emerging artists should
have a developmental potential towards a professional career.
• Artists working in any visual art or craft practice may submit a proposal.
• Work proposed for the Dunamaise Gallery must not have previously been exhibited
within County Laois within 12 months, in a similar format or presentation.
• Successful applicants are encouraged to participate in a paid public engagement
event, e.g. a masterclass or workshop, an “in conversation” session or public talk.
The specific details of which will be mutually agreed between the artist/curator and
Dunamaise.
• The selected artists must show a proven record of capacity to progress an advance
proposal through to presenting a full, cohesive show at Dunamaise Gallery.
Application Procedures:
Digital applications via email are preferable. However, hard copies will also be accepted by
post. In both cases please include, along with the Application Form:
• A concise outline of the proposed exhibition (400 words maximum)
• Detailed CV (for all involved)
• Examples of previous work (no more than 10 images in total. All group exhibition
participants must be represented). Each image of existing work must include the title,
its dimensions, the material/medium, the date and artists name.
• Images should be submitted as low/medium resolution jpegs via email; OR as larger
jpeg files if on CD Rom; OR as print-outs. 5MB max per email.
• Videos should be submitted as YouTube, Vimeo links etc. OR on CD Rom.
• Please supply direct links to any pages/sites you wish the panel to view and a brief
explanation (max 50 words) of what will be viewed.
• All digital materials should be PC/Microsoft Office compatible.
• If new work is being proposed, please include a clear outline text not to exceed 400
words. For any proposed new work, please include as much detail as possible at this
stage, as to material, scale and production with sketches of intended layout in relation
to gallery space.
• State if you live in, work in, are originally from or trained as an artist in Laois.
• Please note that postal applications will not be returned without inclusion of correctly
stamped self-addressed envelope. Do not submit any valuable or irreplaceable
materials.
Selection Process:
• Applications will be evaluated by a panel to include representatives from Dunamaise Arts
Centre and independent arts practitioners.
• The decision of the selection panel is final.
• Applications will be evaluated based on the proposals suitability to the venue in the
context of Dunamaise Arts Centres overall programme and the quality of proposed and
previous work.
• Receipt of applications will be acknowledged by Friday 6 November 2015.
• All applicants will be notified of regrets or shortlisting by end November 2015.
• Selected artists will be invited to schedule mutually agreeable dates for exhibitions in
the period January 2016 – December 2017.

following periods, if your work relates to any of the following themes, or you can offer
related workshops/talks;
• First Fortnight (January; Challenging mental health prejudice through the arts)
• Easter 1916 / Ireland 2016 / Decade of Commemorations
• Bealtaine (May; Celebrating Creativity in Older Age)
• Heritage Week (August)
• Culture Night (September)
• Laois Connects (October; Promoting Positive Mental Health & Wellbeing in Laois)
• Any other connections you may wish to propose with our performing arts programme
of theatre, dance, live music, literature, arthouse cinema or local arts.
• Any connections you may wish to propose with segments of our audience e.g.
children.

Please note we also have an Annual Open Submission Group Show where 1-2 pieces can be
submitted for selection by a guest curator. This may be preferable for emerging artists building
their portfolio and body of work towards future solo shows. (Separate application process).
Abbeyleix FEC Biennale
One exhibition opportunity will be offered every 2 years (2016/18 and so on), for one or
more artists who have graduated from Abbeyleix FEC Art Department.
These applicants must also meet the following criteria:
• Have graduated from Abbeyleix FEC within the past 6 years.
• Have completed a minimum of Level 6 qualification from any recognised institution.
• Work in any media / any discipline will be considered
• Selection of a single artist or curation of a group / collective is at the discretion of the
Selection Panel.
