Hello everyone. Good luck to all of our Year 12 students beginning their HSC exams today as well as our

two Adult students who will be sitting the Design and Technology Exam next week. These exams are very important and are presided over by the Board of Studies which has very strict rules. Students must sit them on the days specified and must check times the day before. If there is a misadventure or an illness, special forms need to be completed and support-ed with a Doctor’s Certificate or a Statutory Declaration. We have had students in the past who have had to complete these forms and have never had a problem having them accepted and acted upon. Mrs. Lane is the best person to consult regarding this. Mrs Judy Bowman and her team will manage the exams again this year on behalf of the Board and we thank them for their organisation and enthusiasm. The exciting news for Year 7 and 8 is that their camp is set to go ahead this week. This camp encompasses a number of aspects including coursework for Science and HSIE as well as self-esteem building, team building and leadership skills. It is a very important part of the school curriculum and we are very keen for all students to attend. The students themselves are looking forward to a couple of days camping with their friends. Thankyou Mrs. Piper for your great work in organising the camp and Mrs. Gallagher, Mr. Wells and Mrs. Hogden for the wonderful support you have given her and for supervising the students at camp. Good luck to our Horse Sports Team who will compete at the Coolah Horse Sports day this week. They are all very com-petent riders and we hope the activities suit them on the day. Thankyou Rosie Stuart for managing the team. Year 11 students ran the Secondary Monday Assembly for the first time today and did a very good job. Kyle Smith, our new School Captain, and Aleisha Holland were the first Year 11 students on the roster which will continue until the end of term as part of a leadership initiative featuring “student voice”. Students will also be asked to provide reports on student activities ranging from agriculture shows, public speaking through to sporting events. Mr. Smith and Mrs. Stoddart have developed the processes as part of the leadership initiative. There will be a number of interviews conducted with parents and guardians of students who have not met the attendance requirements of the Department of Education and Communities over the next few weeks. While most students at this school are excellent attendees, there is a minority who require support. The process is about working with par-ents/guardians to assist their children to overcome any attendance issues. On Thursday we begin our Integration Reviews for students with special needs. These are always very productive and are the basis for developing specific programs to help these students through consultation with their parents/guardians. This process will be extended to cater for all Aboriginal students, Out of Home Care students and students with learning prob-lems. In each case it is important that parents are involved in the development of learning plans for their students. I’d like to welcome prac teacher, Will Godber, who is returning to our school to complete his internship in PDHPE and His-tory. He will be supported by Mr. Bush and Mr. Edwards. Very sadly we will be saying goodbye to Mr. Edwards at the end of the year after he announced his transfer to Singleton High School to staff at last week’s staff meeting. Mr. Edwards has been at DCS for the past nine years and has developed many excellent relationships with community members. He will be missed by our students, staff and parents and we wish him well in his future endeavours. Our thoughts are also with Chaplain Beth Bowman as she recovers from a very serious illness. She is missed by our stu-dents and staff, who have all reaped the benefit of Beth’s support throughout the year, and hope for her speedy recovery. Don’t forget the P&C meeting on Thursday night at 7.30pm. It would be great to see a huge attendance of parents there as we discuss projects in which the school can gain some benefit from the Development Package outlined by Minister Kevin Humphreys at last week’s Dunedoo meeting. Just a reminder that NAPLAN Results will be posted out later this week. Enjoy your week!

Award Night is fast approaching. Would all recipients of Perpetual Trophies from 2012

please return them to the front office ASAP.

Kinder, Year 1 & Year 2

The children really enjoyed their Go Go Golf session with Sharon Nott last Friday. Thanks Sharon! Please remember that the students need to wear a hat this Term to play in the playground. Otherwise they will be playing in the sheltered area. It is really important that children bring cut up fruit for “Crunch” & water for “Sip” at 10.25am each day (Friday’s as well now as we no longer have fruit from the Canteen). Mrs. M. Abbott Kinder/Year 1: Welcome to Week 2. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Kinder / Yr. 1 had a great time at Go Go Golf last Friday. A big thankyou to Sharon Nott who makes these sessions so much fun. Kinder’s Jolly Phonics focus this week is how ‘ue’ and ew’ make the same sound. They will also continue to practice forming their letters. Yr. 1’s Spelling words contain the ‘or’ sound and their Grammar focus is ‘es’ plural endings. In Maths, Kinder’s topics are Modelling numbers to 20, Shopping, Counting to 30 and Adding to 10. Yr. 1’s will learn about Strategies for Solving Problems, Counting Coins, Money and Rounding Numbers. In HSIE, we are looking at how and why people celebrate and we will be discussing some celebrations the children have attended. Please complete and return all homework, continue to revise the Peak Hill words and read nightly. Congratulations to Jaxon Clifton, our student from last week and to Chelsea Green and April Dominey who received Merit Certificates. Mrs. E. Yeo Year 1/2: Welcome to Week 2. I hope you all had a pleasant weekend. This week in Spelling, Yr. 1 will study the “or” sound as in horse and Yr. 2 will study the “tion” suffix as in nation and relation. In Maths, Yr. 1 will learn about Strategies for Solving Problems, Counting Coins, Money and Rounding Numbers. Yr. 2 will learn about Money, Combining Numbers to 10 and Subtraction Strategies. Thanks to Sharon Nott for a fabulous Go Go Golf Session on Friday—the children are really developing their skills. Don’t forget Homework Centre is now on Wednesday’’s 3pm to 4pm. Keep reading and have a great week. Mrs. M. Abbott

Good luck to our state athletes, Christie Bauer, Gabbi Johnston and Nathan O’Malley, as they travel to Homebush for the NSW PSSA State Athletics Carnival this week. I know you will represent your school and region with pride and distinction. Lots of fun was had at Go Go Golf on Friday by all students. Thanks to Sharon Nott for teaching our students the basics of golf and generating interest in this popular sport. We may have a future Adam Scott or Karrie Webb amongst us! Please remember that Homework Centre has moved to a new day! Homework centre will now be held on Wednesday afternoons after school, in the library annexe. Applications for Year 5 students for consideration for entry to a selective high school in 2015 are required by mid-November. For more information please contact me at school, or visit www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement . As always, if you have anything to discuss, please contact me at school. Enjoy your week. Events to come: Year 4/5 Assembly this Friday 18th October Netball NSW Skills Clinic—Friday 8th November It’s a Mad World Performance—Monday 2nd December Award Night—Tuesday 10th December Joel Wilson—Assistant Principal Primary

Year 3/4: Hello all. Year 3/4 are putting together a slideshow of our Sydney Excursion. We are looking for extra photos that some of you may have. If you’re happy to share, please bring in your camera and cords and I will upload them or simply put them on a USB stick. This week in class we begin our work on a new text type, Procedures and we have a grammar focus on using speech marks. We will also begin our assembly practice as we’re hosting next Friday’s event. In Maths, Year 3 will be doing 3-digit subtraction with trading. This week’s news topic is Personal News. Have a great week. Mr. B. Kline

Year 4/5: Hello everybody, the 4/5 Assembly is this Friday. It would be fantastic if you could make it on the day to support your child/children. Also a big well done to all those students who have reached ACE levels this week, keep up the good effort for the rest of the term! Students need to remember in Term 4 that our Summer Hat Policy is in force. If students do not have a hat they will be directed to play under the shelter or sit on the silver seats, also due to the hotter weather make sure to label all drink bot-tles and hats. Have a great week everybody! Mr. A. Honeysett

Year 5/6: It’s HSIE project time again—and this term students will be asked to choose and independently complete activities relating to our unit on Australian identity. Notes home this week with more detailed instructions. Homework also resumes this week. Year 5 maths spent last week revisiting and consolidating our understanding of decimal numbers. This week we return to our Maths Plus units and are studying multiplication strategies. Mr. J. Wilson Year 6 Maths: This week students will be working on Decimals and Fractions. The homework sheet is due in on Thurs-day. Please encourage your child to complete this task. The students will take home their Term 3 Diagnostic Test today, please discuss this with your child. Thursday last week saw Year 10 students comple ng their Communi-

ty Interviews, hosted by Skillset, Dubbo.

Prior to the interviews students compiled a por olio as an assess-

ment.  This contained a resume, current reports, cer ficates, a job

adver sement and le er of applica on and interview ques ons and

answers.  On Thursday students were required to dress in interview

a re for the en re day, go through the interview process-handing

their por olio to the panel, answering ques ons and being evaluat-

ed.

This process is vital as a prac ce to the “real thing” and students took

this task very seriously.  Both Skillset interviewer’s, Kerry Moore and

Rodney Ney, were extremely impressed with the level of enthusiasm,

personal presenta on and interview technique displayed by stu-

dents.

Needless to say I was also very proud of their efforts and appreciate the  me most students put into their prepara on for this task.

For students who have not completed their interview: You will have your interviews on Wednesday with Kerry Moore star ng ap-

proximately 11am.  You will wear interview a re un l Sport, and will need to have your por olio, ques ons, answers and job you

are applying for.

Tomorrow year 7 and 8 will head for the Warrumbungles National Park. The Warrumbungles is not only the Astronomy capital of Australia but also is a world class volcanic landscape and its all on our doorstep ! Year 7 & 8 have been studying volcanic rocks and are about to study the solar system in year 8 so this excursion will back up their class room activities with hands on field work. The excursion is also aimed to increase teamwork amongst the students in setting up camp as well as giving students an opportunity to challenge themselves to complete some reasonably difficult walks in the mountains. The camp will be a “Digital Free Zone “ without IPODS or phones so students will have to talk to the actual persons they are with not the cyber ones ! ( also there is no service ). On Tuesday night we are hoping for no cloud so that we can make use of some telescope star gazing viewing . Who knows what we might see !! Lindy Piper
