DESCRIPTION

Air-water heat pumps at high temperature with double cascade cycle with two scroll compressors running with combined refrigerants (R410a e R134a) to production:

■ hot water for winter space heating;■ hot sanitary water (h.s.w.).

The innovative technical solutions applied to DUO allow to overcome the operating limits of a traditional heat pump as well as an up-to-date one:

■ constant heating capacities even with a decrease of the outdoor temperature (-20°C;+20°C) in winter;

■ many designing options (up to 80°C) that allow:- hot water production at very high temperature on condenser to serve both civilian and process hot utilities;- hot water production at very high temperature on recuperator, to serve sanitary utilities;

■ high reliability and durability (reduction mechanical stress thanks to compression ratios lower than traditional heat pumps);

■ high energy efficiency (COP >4,2) and low emissions CO₂<50%).

CONSTANT HEATING CAPACITY DURING WINTER SPACE HEATING

The heating capacity of the DUO unit remains constant although with decreasing of the outdoor air temperature, ensuring a reli-able and efficient operation with great advantages in terms of energy consumption. The DUO unit is able to provide the heating capacity required by the plant even with outdoor temperature up to -20°C, while traditional heat pumps use to have problems working with outdoor temperature next to 0°C.

HIGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY

The double-compression cycle can operate at the point of optimal operation of the compressor, or at the point of maximum isentropic efficiency regardless of the ambient air temperature, in contrast to the heat pump where the ratio isentropic compression increases with the outside temperature decreasing, making worse isentropic efficiency.

Very high energy efficiency and reliability:

The inverter scroll compressors of latest generation allow to reach extreme working conditions, ensuring the highest efficiency perfor-mances.They also guarantee a very low-noise impact.FULL INVERTER circulators allow to optimize the start-up of the unit with very low outdoor temperature in heat pump operating mode.The modulation of the water flow rate allows to control the condens-ing temperature, optimizing defrost cycles; it allows also to acceler-ate the achievement of set point temperature and to facilitate the start-up after prolonged inactivity or with low temperature of the tank.The inverter circulators are equipped with brushless motors, so it is possible to obtain better performances than pumps equipped with on/off motors, but ensuring very high energy saving.

The DUO solution provides a lower impact to the environment compared to the best fuel technology: given that today the cli-mate is more with combustion systems, ideally thinking of re-placing all combustion installations with multi-function units DUO, you drastically reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.In compliance with the SCHERPHA (research for sustainable heat and energy) within 2030 the annual carbon emissions produced by a traditional heating system of the EU could decrease from 8 to 1 CO₂ tons thanking to the use of multifunctional technology.

DIGITAL DEFROST TECHNOLOGY

In the electronic control system has been implemented a new in-novative digital defrosting technology able to reduce to zero the production of negative energy towards the plant during defrosting, when a heat pump normally uses to switch the cycle in chiller mode producing cold water.DIGITAL DEFROST is a digital self-adaptive defrosting system able to prevent the production of frost that works only in case of effective presence of frost on the coils’ fins.In particular, the system operates by modulating the compressors’ inverter frequency according to the outdoor temperature, raising the evaporating temperature above the defrost limit. The unit is subjected to a significantly reduced number of defrost cycles. The reduction of mechanical stress, due to the cycle inversions dur-ing heating mode, implies an increase in the life cycle of the unit, as well as improving the comfort felt by the user.

ADJUSTABLE SET POINTS FOR ANY URER

The advanced electronic of DUO allows you to manage both refrigeration cycles in an inter-active way through a full inverter technology applied to compressors, electronic expansion valves and circulators. It also allows you to set different and completely independent set points for HSW and heating purposes. Finally it easily handles the digital defrost system. This provides high adaptability to any type of plant or installation need.

DYNAMIC SET POINT

The DYNAMIC SET POINT allows to optimize the heat load provided to the users during the entire period of operation of the unit.Depending on the heat load , the control set point fits always guaranteeing an optimal tem-perature of the feed water to the terminals of the plant, providing only the necessary ther-mal energy as a function of the outside air temperature.

In fact if the outdoor temperature increases, through the function DSP it is possible:

• toincreasethesetpointincaseitisnecessarytocontainpowerconsumptionsanditisneeded to ensure a difference between the indoor and outdoor temperature such avoid lack of comfort due to the excessive changes of temperature;

• toreducethesetpointincaseitisrequiredtocompensateinsuchawaytheexcessofthermal load; of course this is a function to be used with precaution because it generates higher power consumption.

HIGH WATER OUT TEMPERATURE

The bacterium Legionella has the maximum growth with a water temperature between 25°C and 42°C.DUO allows to reach water temperatures up to 80°C: this temperature is also high enough for the instantaneous elimination of the dangerous bacterium.The system is also capable of triggering an anti-legionella cycle individually as needed.

HEATING CAPACITY: DUO 112 Z SM VS TRADITIONAL HEAT PUMP

The heating capacity of single stage heat pumps has significant decay, in particular with extreme outdoor temperature. In fact the operating range of the units is very limited already with outdoor temperature at 0°C. Comparing the different units, at the same operating conditions, is possible to observe the superiority of DUO that provides much higher heating capacity.The innovation of DUO avoids the decreasing of heating capacity thanks to the cycle with compressor at R410a (outdoor unit) that allows, modulating the power, to the cycle with compressor at R134a (indoor unit) to evaporate at the best conditions in constant way, ensuring hot water production up to 80°C.

The COP of single stage heat pumps decrease with decreasing of outdoor temperature, reaching very low values, starting from 0°C.In DUO COP decreases less quickly and allows the correct operating mode, also with outdoor temperature up to -20°C, ensuring the hot water production up to 80°C.

SCROLL COMPRESSORS

The units have hermetic scroll compressors, characterized by high performances, reduced vibrations and little sound emissions.During operation it’s developed a more uniform compression and pulsation, there are no alternative movements of pistons accompanied by masses or vibration forces to benefit the low noise making unnecessary both pulsation dampeners and the isolation of compressor with headphones or in isolated compartments.High COP values are guaranteed by high volumetric efficiency. During operation The compressor maintains a supply of power output with limited variations, it guaranteed continuous operation of the compressor, with limited number of stat and stops than the other type of com-pressors.The inverter technology, applied to last generation compressors, allows to control and to adapt the speed of the compressor in relation to the set-point. Reached the required temperature, it is kept constant modulating the power delivered to a minimum, ensuring much higher energy saving.For this reason, it is possible to save energy, faster in achieving the desired set-point and a better and more protracted control of relative humidity in the room.The temperature of the gas flow is significantly lower thanks to the limited internal heat of the gas aspirated it allows you to work with pres-sures condensation reduced with more comfort and much long life cycle of the compressor.

The electric inverter motor, cooled by the refrigerant inlet, it is equipped with internal thermal protection.

CASING

Painted galvanized steel cabinet to the machine that gives a high resistance to corrosion. The front panel is easily removable for access to all internal components and to allow maintenance operations, but with extreme ease.

FINNED BLOCK EXCHANGER

The DUO units are equipped with heat exchanger coil with inner grooved copper tubes and aluminum . that allows for greater heat exchange capacity in the same area.

CONDENSER/EVAPORATOR FANS SECTION

The units are equipped with condensing section of axial fans, statically and dynamically, driven by electric motors with continuous speed vari-ation and with a closed internal thermal protection.The continuously variable speed can significantly reduce the power drawn by the fans, resulting more energy savings.When the unit will have to dispose of an air flow less than the maximum (for example in heat pump operating mode) the fan reduces its speed of rotation.

PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS

Heat exchangers, water direct expansion type brazed plate in AISI 316, externally insulated with anti-cell closed with antifreeze heater switch and differential pressure. The double thermodynamic cycle is developed through the gas – gas exchanger. This constructive solution, developed by Thermocold, allows to obtain much high performances through an optimized heat change for refrigerants R134a and R410a. It allows to split the compression and it allow to obtain constant heating capacities and produces hot water up to 80°C.

AIR CONDITIONING SANITARY UTILITIES

The standard configuration of DUO is composed with inverter pumps. Here are shown the graphs to estimate the total prevalence in function of flow rate. It should be noted that the use of variable speed pumps is not intended to create plants with variable flow rate. In that case it should provide a secondary circuit, after the air condi-tioning tank, to change the flow rate of utilities of the plant (as you can see in the scheme).

The trend of prevalence of inverter pump to manage great flow rates is represented with different curves, according the different percen-tual speeds of the pump. In this case, to manage a flow rate about 7,5 m3/h the pump ensures a total prevalence around 19 m and the speed is around 90% of the maximum.

In the split versions of DUO the heating or cooling capacity is in function of the distance between indoor and outdoor units. In particular the heating or cooling capacity , according to the trend showed in the graph, decreases with increasing of the length of refrigerant pipings. In the graph it is possible to calculate the percentual decreasing (than nominal values).
