‘Senna’ grass is harvested in August, after dry process, it is uesd as a sole in ‘skaller’. this grass can keep warm and allows the footwear to breathe, thereby achieving an effective warmth and avoiding clammy feet.

All Sami did not have the opportunity to gain silverware or costume ornaments made of silver, but they got instead materials like brass or pew-ter. Brass jewelery is procured from outside, but the tin is processed by sami himself. This (poor man’s silver) has become unique materials for Sami handicrafts and an essential materials for art and culture. In general , tin is the only metal which independently processed by Sami.

Birch tree branch are used a lot to make lavvo, make food drying shelf, and make fire for cooking and heating. Also for the skis and transprotan-tion sleds.

Reindeer horn and bone are suitable materials to be used in making tools which are then used in varity of ways, such as bone nee-dles, bone awls, arrowheads, fishing crooks, drumsticks,spoons, knives,knife sheaths, etc. There has been a continual develoment of new ways to use horn and bone articles since the Iron Age and up to today.
