Term 2 Week 8 Friday 22th June

Principal’s Report

We say it all the time, but it seems crazy that we have only

two weeks to go until the end of term. The school as

always remains a hive of activity and the energy evident in

the day to day workings of our school show how productive

our students are in their learning, playing and creativity.

Planning for 2019

At the mid-point of the year, one of the things that begins in

earnest is planning for the next year. Something that can

help us to do this effectively is a close idea of what our

student population might look like. If you know of anyone

who is considering Duranbah Public School for 2019, either

in Kindergarten or in any other year, please encourage

them to contact us so that we may be able to better

prepare both our school and also that family.

QUESTACON Science Circus

Wednesday saw a visit to our school from the

QUESTACON Science Circus which visits regional areas

to engage students in fun and interesting aspects of

science in our world. Our students had a great time

exploring slime, exploding canisters, predicting and

experimenting.

Science Units

The visits from the Science Circus fits in wonderfully

with our current science units on ‘Game Changers’.

Students are inspired to design concepts that change

the way we think about something and are honing

their creative instincts beautifully. This unit will culmi-

nate with a Science Day in Term 3 where the schools

of the S8 come together to share their designs.

P & C meeting

A big thank you to those parents who were able to

attend the P&C meeting on Tuesday. Discussions

and decisions included our school uniform designs,

an upcoming fundraiser for the P&C (details to fol-

low), plans for a student banking program and dis-

cussion as to the P&C Facebook page. On the P&C

Facebook page, the meeting re-established that this

page was created for the sharing of information. Par-

ents who utilise this are reminded that due to privacy

requirements, pictures to be posted are to be directed

to the school Facebook page to ensure the privacy

requirements are maintained. This can be easily

done, by contacting any of the staff at school.

Administration Office Renovations

You may have noticed that there has been some re-

furbishments occurring in our Administration area.

New pin-boards have been placed in view to show

case the activities of our students (and families) and

this week, new floor coverings were laid. Pretty soon

this will be followed by new bench tops and new de-

signs, all intended to improve the experiences of

each member of our school as well as visitors to our

lovely school. You may also have noticed some up-

dated signage both on the larger main building and

also the admin area (a new sign will be added to the

front garden area in the holidays). These look great

and we have the Hillier family to thank for their addi-

tion.

Hopefully everyone has a great weekend and gets a

chance to enjoy the second NSW victory on Sunday!
