The DVOC Birder’s Picnic has been an annual event for many years, some more official than others. Let’s try to make this year the best turn out ever! Paul & Anita Guris are Hosting again!
GAMES Lawn Darts, Horse Shoes, kids games & crafts during the day and Cards Against Humanity will be played after dark! Indoors
FIRE PIT FUN
Depending on the weather we’ll fire up the pit in the evening and gather.
ICE CREAM We’ll provide it too!
BRING YOUR FOOD
We will have 2 Grills Available for Grilling
Your Meats & Veggies.
Feel free to bring your own soda since we won’t provide that.

FREE BEER
We’ll provide Beer, Iced Tea, Lemonade, and Mixed Punch, Ice. Ice
Cream too! We will also provide paper products
and condiments.

We hope you’ll bring a dish to share with the group! Winners are
Salads, Chips & Dips, Vegetarian Dishes,
Desserts and Chocolate!

2017 DVOC ANNUAL PICNIC

We’ll provide shade from the sun, some table space, some chairs. Please let us know if
you’re coming as soon as possible so we can be prepared to host everyone comfortably.

Please email [email protected] anytime BEFORE July 29, 2017 to confirm your attendance.
We’ll need a fairly accurate head count for beer, other drinks, paper products and ice cream.
BRING A YOUTH BIRDER!
We’ll have age appropriate games if people are bringing a YOUTH BIRDER or two to the
picnic which we highly encourage! If you know
someone that wants to come but needs a ride, contact Anita and she’ll check the list to see who may be coming from the same area that may be able to give a
young person a ride.
BRING YOUR BINS!
Green Lane Reservoir and Park may be very good to bird for
shore birds at this time of year depending on the water levels. We also have our bird feeders in
full swing all year long with Pileated Woodpeckers making repeated trips to the feeders right off the deck! Come and
enjoy our front and back yards!
BRING A FRIEND!
We are serious about not drinking and driving. So, if you plan to imbibe, please bring a designated driver to get you
home safely. We will also have lots of non-alcoholic drinks (with the exception of soda) for you to drink while you’re enjoying the
company of other birders!

FOOD CONTEST This year we are introducing a Contest to Spice Up the Picnic! Each dish entry will donate $5 dollars to the overall prize pool. No Entry Limit! Make a Dish in one of these categories: 1. Pasta Salad (no mayo allowed) must use any type
of pasta in the dish, just no mayonnaise is allowed due to food safety.
2. Corn Dish (on or off the cob). 3. Dip and Dippers (homemade dip and whatever
mate for dipping). 4. Any Dessert Item (must be homemade) Make your donation online by July 29th! so we can get the prizes in time for the picnic!
FOOD CONTEST JUDGING & PRIZES Every dish will get a number, and we’ll ask everyone to taste the dishes and vote. Any tie will be broken by a judge. Dishes will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Presentation (includes food, serving dish, and visual appeal)
2. Taste (please don’t use hot pepper(s) or spicy heat) but try for full flavor!
3. Uniqueness and appropriateness of food as a picnic food for a large group.
Below are some ideas to get your culinary creative juices flowing.
Prizes will be purchased with donations and will be announced prior to the picnic on the DVOC.org site. Prizes could be as great as a dinner gift card, or as lame as a fly swatter to keep the flies away from your food, it all depends on the number of entries we get! So come on people, donate and enter!
