Birth Place

I was born in Wilmington, North

Carolina.Wilmington is known as the

“Port City”. The second largest

television and movie production facility.

Movies such as A Walk to Remember,

Nights InRodanthe, Black Knight, and

Cape Fear were filmed in Wilmington.

It is also the birthplace of Michael

Jordan, the greatest basketball player

of all time. Wilmington is in New

Hanover County; I was born at the

New Hanover Hospital.

Where My Name Came From

My full name is William Dylan Thomas Mauldin.

William comes frommy grandmother, Willie Criscoe

Pierce. Of 34 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I

am the only one named after her. Dylan Thomas was

given to me by my father because his favorite poet is

Dylan Thomas.

Mauldin means monument on a hill, originating

from both Surry and Essex London. Dylan is welsh,

meaning son of the sea and warrior. Thomas, Aramaic,

means “twin” which is ironic considering the fact that I

have a twin. William, or Will Helm, means protective

and strong.

Stories Of My Birth

I was born on November first, 1992. When I was born, a

blood vessel burst in my head causing me to have

seizures. Due to this occurrence I stayed in the

Neurological ICU for two months having daily spinal taps

to drain the fluid from my brain. During my stay in the

hospital it was discovered that I had been born without a

thyroid; a bow tie shaped gland in the throat that

regulates growth hormones and controls the body’s

metabolism. I did not eat until they began giving me

medicine to give me a metabolism. For the rest of my

life I have to take medicine so that I will maintain a

normal metabolism. Going without could kill me.
