Existing Structure
Initial structure was built in 1952; demolished and replaced in 1980 In early 2014, the energy dissipaters were removed to allow
additional pump flow Two-gate system does not allow for “hurricane” gate Only major structure without an Ogee spillway; absence reduces
efficiency and causes a hydraulic jump under bridge In 2014, dive inspection revealed significant lateral seepage under
the bridge and exposed/corroding rebar Temporary repairs for corrosion were made to radial gates in 2014 North Pump is currently inoperable Overhead powerlines restrict maintenance and emergency access
to the gate and pumps Manual weed removal required North radial gate structural repair in 2016 following hoist failure
Proposed Structure
Three-gate structure will provide more capability, reliability and operational flexibility
Dual pumps will allow more capability and reliability Mechanical weed removal will improve operational efficiencies and
improved reliability Relocation will eliminate the conflict with overhead power lines Redesign and relocation will remove “hidden” hydraulic jump Change in surface water may cause increase in ground water,
warranting a seepage trench along the north bank to mitigate concern
Relocation to east may cause concern for approximately 10 adjacent residents; construction work and aesthetic changes to backyard view
Engineer’s Estimate of Probable Construction Cost - $6.7M

June 12, 1991 - LWDD Board of Supervisors approved the Piping of the L-18 Canal for the proposed Service Station for ~200’ east of Congress (Request made by H.P. Thompkins, Jr.)
August 12, 1992 - LWDD Board of Supervisors approved a 6-month extension for the approvals granted in 1991 for the Piping of the L-18 Canal for the Service Station (Lennar Homes) & Boynton Lakes Plaza (Request made by Lennar Homes & Boynton Lakes Party in order to finalize the Tri-Party Agreements)
August 25, 1993 - Tri-Party Agreement was recorded (ORB 7855/1329) for the gas station parcel between LWDD, Lennar Homes, and Palm Beach County
2019 – Bank Street Partners, LLC has requested the transfer of the Piping, Paving, Parking License Agreement to the current owners and convert to a Right-of-Way Permit
The two parcels to the east have current Tri-Party Agreements.

August 19, 1982 - LWDD issued a Drainage Permit; Plans show proposed building at easement line
November 2019 - LWDD Inspector (J. Summers) stopped construction of a HVAC System within the L-16 Canal Right-of-Way without a permit from LWDD; they do have a permit from PBC
November 2019 - Representatives from the Dollar Tree Store contacted the District regarding the installation of an emergency exit sidewalk from the back of the building to the parking lot on the east side of the building
Dollar Store Representatives removed exiting A.C. Units from L-16 R/W and installed on the roof
Representatives have reduced the proposed encroachment from ~9’ from the building to 4’ and utilizing the door closest to the parking lot; They are requesting ~ 4’ x 25’ emergency exit sidewalk for egress only
