Introduction

e-Anatomy is an interactive atlas of human anatomy, developed on the IMAIOS website. It is designed for the use of physicians, radiologists, students and medical imaging professionals.

e-Anatomy has over 13,000 images with CT, MRI and PET image series in axial, coronal and sagittal slices, as well as x-rays and angiography images, dissections, anatomy diagrams and illustrations.

These medical images feature labelled anatomical parts with over 670,000 labelled structures available in 11 languages, including the Latin Terminologia Anatomica. They attract over 350,000 visitors per month from 200 countries.

e-Anatomy has received many awards from the Radiological Society of North America, the European Congress of Radiology and the French Society of Radiology.

You must hold the left button of the mouse by moving it up or down to scroll through the series of images. You can also place it on the image and use the mouse wheel or the up and down arrows on the keyboard. You can use the right and left arrows to change series.

To make better use of this feature, you must make sure to have the module page selected. In addition, make sure that the mouse cursor is on the image frame (see below).

Tips: The full screen mode prevents scrolling with the mouse wheel down to the bottom of the page and accidentally deselecting the image.

Reversed scroll mode: you can reverse the direction of scrolling the images. For that, simply hold down the “r” key and scroll through the images with the mouse wheel. The action of this function is particularly visible in the scroll bar of the images.

The cross-reference feature allows you to find the different views displayed. The blue line represents the position of the current image.

Depending on the module, the images of this cross-reference bar are clickable. For example, if you click on the sagittal view, the image displayed in the module will be the first image of the series in sagittal section.

Cross-reference

If you pass the mouse cursor over a thumbnail image, a small window will be displayed with the name of the area. If you click on it, the image will appear on the screen along with its captions. You can also move the cursor by holding down the left button of the mouse to scroll through the images.

On the right side of the menu is the total number of images and the number of the image selected. You can browse the images by clicking on the arrows or by entering an image number.

The pins on the labels are clickable. You can hide some labels of the image by clicking on the pins. Similarly, you can choose to add the labels that are not displayed by clicking on the isolated pins. The settings for displaying a structure depend on the filters selected (see section “Anatomical structures” p.22).

Each label is a link. If you click on it, a window with the following information will appear :- The series of the module where the structure appears.- The series of other modules where this structure appears.- A definition of the term (now available only in English).- The anatomical hierarchy of this structure in anatomical terminology.- The translations of this anatomical term into the different languages of e-Anatomy.

To go back to the module, you can: click on a series of images, on one of the links of the anatomical hierarchy or on the X at the top right.
