REVA University

Chief Editor School of Computing and Information Technology is glad

to bring out e-news letter that comprises of happening of events on

technical cultural and sports related activities. Current

technologies are facilitating technocrats to enhance the comfort

living of human beings. Machine learning has been one of the top

technology to learn since it helps to automate the processes in

searching, sorting, data analytics, decision making, cloud

management, telecom management, computing management, etc.

Thus there is a need to provide skill set in such areas and

applications to all the students. In this direction, the school has

offers courses on Machine learning and applications to all

computer science students. The school has state of the art labs

with well qualified faculty (70) who has good progress in

academics and research. Various research areas of the school are:

I am a Variable, Who is never Constant,

I change as you change me, Coz, that’s my nature.

I am a Variable,

Who names a Location, Lives to store a value,

And dies when jobless.

I am a Variable, Who is called, Chameleon;

You wanted me to be! I still don’t care.

I am a Variable,

Who is Programmer’s friend, Accept any value, user gives,

Until my type permits.

I help memory, memories; Make program, stay useful;

I am happy, because, I simplify your lifestyle.

Biography – John Warner Backus (1924 - 2007)

John Warner Backus (December 3, 1924 – March 17, 2007) was an American computer scientist.

He directed the team that invented the first widely used high-level programming language (FORTRAN)

and was the inventor of the Backus-Naur form (BNF), a widely used notation to define formal language

syntax. He also did research in function-level programming and helped to popularize it.

The IEEE awarded Backus the W.W. McDowell Award in 1967 for the development of

FORTRAN.[3] He received the National Medal of Science in 1975, and the 1977 ACM Turing Award “for

profound, influential, and lasting contributions to the design of practical high-level programming systems,

notably through his work on FORTRAN, and for publication of formal procedures for the specification of

programming languages.”
