Hello Everyone,
After narrowly being defeated at the election meeting this month, this will be my last message to you.
I have sent Kurt an email to congratulate him and also to let him know that I am always there if he needs me.
There are two notable strengths that Kurt brings to the table. One is he places high regards to the Association. It’s a family thing for him as most of you know. Also, he keeps a cautious eye on the funds for the Association and scrutinizes all expenditures.
My ten years on the board has been an adventure for me. When I see how far we have come, it pleases me greatly and I am proud of our accomplishments.
Let us all work with our new officers and board members and stay the course. This past year, we reached our 1500 member limit two months before the end of the fiscal year. We have many on the waiting list. We have never maxed out the membership since we went from 1200 to 1500. I would say that we must be doing something right.
I want to thank all those who have supported and helped me throughout my terms. I have a great deal of respect for those individuals and feel that I have made a lot of friends.
Thanks,

THANKS, ANNETTE!A special thanks to Annette Champion for making and donating the best cinnamon rolls in the world to Junior Rifle! These delicious treats are a welcome sight early Sunday morning when the junior shooters and their coaches are arriving for a day of fun and shooting. If you see Annette at Trap on Wednesday evening, let her know you appreciate her generosity.

Props and targets will be available and the shooting lines are set up at 3,5,7, &10 yards. If your schedule allows the time, then do visit this range and keep up with your proficiency & training. Did You Know:Facts, Figures & Folklore About
Father's Day & Fatherhood
The third Sunday in June is America's special day to cel-ebrate our fathers. Here are some of the facts about our country's dads that you may not have known:
Did you know that the concept of Father's Day was first proposed in 1909 by Washingtonian native Mrs. John B. Dodd? Her inspiration for the holiday was to honor her own father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran and single dad, widowed when his wife died in childbirth with their sixth child.
Did you know that Mrs. Dodd's vision did not become reality until 63 years later? In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.
Did you know that Americans aren't the only ones to celebrate their dads? In the United States and over 50 other countries around the world, Father's Day is cel-ebrated on the third Sunday in June. The first Sunday in June is when Lithuanian dads are honored; and on the second Sunday, dads in Austria and Belgium have their special day.
Did you know that fatherhood is an experience that bonds men across generations, continents and life styles? For example, even world famous dad Brad Pitt suffers from the dreaded effects of sleep deprivation. "I love it," he once said about fatherhood. "...and can't recommend it any more highly - although sleep is nonexistent."
Did you know that many child development experts believe the influence of a father on his children is most critical from the ages of six to 14? Former President George W. Bush, himself a father of two, agrees. As he wrote in the 2008 Presidential Proclamation for Fa-ther's Day, "By providing their sons and daughters with a positive example, fathers help give their children the necessary foundation they need to make wise decisions throughout their lives."
Did you know that since the 1950s, TV dads have wield-ed tremendous paternal influence over generations of American families? Some of the most popular fathers to grace our sets have included Ward Cleaver, Mike Brady, Howard Cunningham and Everybody Loves Raymond's Ray Barone.

A reminder – Be careful out there. It is starting to warm up (hopefully) and Mr. Diamond Back (a rattle snake) will be coming out. I do not know of a sighting so far this year, but that can change in a heartbeat. I have posted at each range a poster from the State of California that details information regarding the snakes. Please take time to read.
I am still looking for someone that can teach basic first aid and CPR. If you are an instructor or know of someone, please contact me via e-mail me at [email protected].
The RSO Internet site, www.efgarso.org, is up and running. We (Lee Allen and Jay Zimmet) have put the final touches on the interactive shift scheduling calendar. The interactive shift calendar will replace the green shift sign-in books that are kept in the Trap Ramada. A RSO can log-on and schedule, change or remove shifts from the RSO Calendar Schedule. We are “going live” with this coming July’s schedule. It has been a challenging process which I believe will be rewarding in the future. I do not think there is another Internet Site out there like our Range Safety Officer Site. It is something to be proud of.
Repeating myself from last months’ Sound-Off: For Short Range Pistol Practice (SRPP) to be active, two Range Safety Officers’ are required; one for SRPP and one for the rest of the range. If there is one dedicated on-duty Range Safety Office set up to run SRPP and there is no second Range Safety Officer to monitor the rest of the range, SRPP will be shut down and the RSO will work the entire range as and normal pistol shooting will be allowed.
Thursday evening, 12 May, was annual election of Officers’ and Board of Director Members and there was a very large turnout. We have several new people serving next year as you may read about elsewhere in the newsletter. Several of the officers and new BOD members are Active Range Safety Officers, congratulations’ to all.
To revisit a topic that seems to need repeating, the target frames are 7 foot tall standing in the target butt. The target cardboard is 24 inches by 24 inches (2 foot by 2 foot) and mounted on the top of the target frame (not in the center or bottom; it has happened). This Target Frame height and cardboard mounting allow bullets to hit the back stop (that is the hill at the end of each range). The sand speed bump on the Pistol Range is intended to catch any er-rant bullets that may want to skip: It is not intended to be used as a back stop, as has happened.
Please be aware of where your bullets are impacting on the range. Are they making it to the back stop? If you are shooting free-hand on the rifle range; are you impacting the back stop? This is especially important on the 150 yard range.
Range Safety Tip of the Month. The speed limit on the Association property is 5 miles per hour, everywhere: A dustless speed. Please slow down and watch for pedestrians and especially our younger members.
Eye and ear protection required for everyone, including spectators, while in a shooting area. Within 25 feet of the firing line is preferred. Seems to be something some of our members and their guests are forgetting.
