Green cloth pictorially stamped in three colors, titled in gilt, spine gilt dulled, wear to extremities, two white splotches, internally clean. An animal story meant to be read to small children. Illustrated with 6 striking color plates. There were few contemporary rivals in America who could depict animals so well as Bransom. Early on in his career as an illustrator he was given the extraordinary opportunity of setting up his studio in the New York Zoological Park, so he could study, in depth, the physi-cal characteristics and movements of many live animals in a way unmatched by his peers.
