    Precision-crafted

    God engineered the human

body so our 206 bones, the

heaviest part of us, make up

    only one-fifth of our weight.

    Yet bones are strong enough

    to protect and support every

    other cell, bearing the com-

    pression and tension we exert

    through ordinary activities

    such as walking and lifting

    heavy items.

    By comparison, wood snaps at

    such impact. And steel, strong

    enough to bear such force,

    weighs three times what bone

    does and would hinder our

movements. No other matterstrikes such a perfect balance

    between strength and weight.

    Furthermore, our bones are

hollow a big part of what re-

    duces their weight and the

    interior efficiently produces a

    trillion red blood cells each

    day.

With the psalmist, we can pro-

claim to God, I praise you, for

    I am fearfully and wonderfully

    made (Psalm 139:14, NRSV).

The Week at a GlanceTo Tell the Truth

To prepare for a sermon on honesty, a pastor asked church members to read Joshua25. The next week, he asked, How many of you read it? Half the hands in the church

    went up.

Great, the pastor said. Youre the ones I want to talk tobecause Joshua has only24 chapters.

    COMMUNITY: SOUTHERN

This project reaches out to an Islamic

    minority group through the remodel-

ing of a village school that is in need of

    repair. Workers also distribute food

and irewood or meet basic needs.

    These efforts provide opportunities to

build relationships and share the love

of Jesus with the people in this village.

Ask God to move in the hearts of the

people to realize their need for Jesus

Christ. Workers also follow up by stud-

ying the Bible with those who are in-

terested. The hope is to see new believ-

    ers form house churches.

    Dollars and Sense

    In Fearless, author Max

    Lucado likens trusting in money

instead of God to trying to make a

    purchase with play money. Pre-

tend bills from Monopoly or other

board games might look real to

children, but even kids soon learn

those dont do any good at the

    cash register.

    Sure, money is essential

to meet our basic daily needs, and

    conventional wisdom urges us to

save for retirement. But thats a

far cry from seeking security in

    accumulating things we dont real-

ly need and spending more energy

    growing our financial accounts

    than our relationship with God.

    Pauls words to Timothy

still ring true in our modern-day

economy: As for those who in the

    present age are rich, command

them not to set their hopes on

the uncertainty of riches, but ra-

ther on God who richly provides

us with everything for our enjoy-

    ment (1 Timothy 6:17, NRSV).

West Lynchburg Baptist Church Sunday School Quarterly Report/August, 2012

QUARTERLY MEETING TOOK PLACE ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 12, 2012 AT 5:30 P.M.

Mark 16:20Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and theLord worked with then and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied

    it.

We want our Sunday School to be a missionary Sunday School in which we focus on people inour neighborhood by finding prospects for each age/life stage whom we can invite to Sunday

School, discussing where we went and what we did for others each week, and through our Bi-ble Study that we can show Jesus to others in deliberate and intentional ways through the Ho-

    ly Spirit.

We have the following opportunities to show Jesus to others beginning in this Sunday Schoolyear:

*What group of prospects could we add to our Sunday School with a space to meet and a teacherto teach? *Which groups would be willing to host a morning or afternoon of Street Team to inviteothers to Sunday School and to share Jesus with others?

*Which one of the following groups of persons would our Sunday School pray for Gods guidance

for a local missions project? College students, terminally ill persons, unemployed persons, newly re-leased prisoners, homeless persons. The purpose of this local missions project would be to meet physicalneeds but also spiritual needs as we are led by the Holy Spirit.

*Who can train us to bring our Sunday School into the 21st century by using technology such as

using interactive Bible games, group texting, updating emails and group emailing, skyping a Bible study

    with others?

*Who is willing to shadow a Sunday School teacher and serve as a substitute teacher whenready?

*Who will lead each age division (preschoolers/children; youth and college; adults) to have a funfall fellowship for inviting friends and prospects?

*Which groups will apply the Bible weekly, tell stories of salvation monthly, and pray daily that we

    would be Gods Sunday School?

We will continue the conversation at our next meeting on Sunday, November 4 at 5:30 in the

    fellowship hall.
