I am happy to inform you that during the General Assembly in Tokyo in November 2018, a new Council has been elected for the next two-year term for 2019 to 2020, and I am honored to be elected to the Chairmanship in this new Council. Please join me in congratulating the six newly elected Vice Chairman. I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the council for 2017-2018 who have not only supported me very well but have also contributed tirelessly in making all the events a great success. ASOCIO has indeed achieved many milestones in the last two year including the inaugural research report launch in 2017 and followed on by the second report in 2018 on ICT talents acquisitions and development with a theme of collaborations within the region. Dear ASOCIO members, Welcome to the fourth quarter edition of ASOCIO newsletter and this will also be the last edition for 2018. I am happy to inform you that during the General Assembly in Tokyo in November 2018, a new Council has been elected for the next two-year term for 2019 to 2020, and I am honored to be elected to the Chairmanship in this new Council. Please join me in congratulating the six newly elected Vice Chairman. Another inaugural flagship event, the Smart City Summit was hosted by VINASA successfully with over 500 participants. On 7-8 November 2018, Japan Information Technology Services Industry Association (JISA) cohosted the Digital Summit and the General Assembly. It was a resounding success attracting great panelists and speakers including a huge crowd of participants. During the digital summit, we also launched the second series research report “ICT Talent Development & Collaboration – Cross-Border Opportunities within the Asia Pacific”. I am happy to note that we have added two new members during the year namely MOSA from Mongolia and PASHA from Pakistan to ASOCIO family. SGTECH from Singapore rejoined ASOCIO in 2017.

2019 will be more exciting and interesting as we chart our next course of our journey, leveraging on the success on the past years. The Council will meet in January to consolidate the various plans and events for the year and will keep you abreast of all these exciting events soon. But do take note of the first event of the year which is in March 2019; the ASOCIO Multilateral Trade Visit (MTV), co-hosted by Myanmar Computer Industry Association (MCIA). Please register with the secretariat soonest possible and I look forward to seeing you all in Mandalay, Myanmar. Finally, I would like to thank all Council Members, Committee Chairs, and Members Association again for giving your unreserved support to me and assuring successes in all ASOCIO events during my last Chairmanship. I look forward to your continuing support. Wishing all a happy new year in 2019.

1. Multilateral Trade Visit (MTV) hosted by Myanmar Computer Industry Association (MCIA) in Mandalay, Myanmar from 6th – 9th March 2019,

2. Smart City Summit hosted by ATCI in Bangkok from 28th – 29th August 2019, 3. Digital Summit in hosted by SGTECH Singapore (tentative) 9th – 10th October 2019.

A key agenda of the General Assembly was the office bearers’ election for the next term. The outcome of the Council Election for 2019 -2020 is as follows:

In the afternoon after the General Assembly, a half day seminar was hosted by JISA on the topic: “Encouraging Safe Transfer of Personal Data to Promote Business Collaboration in ASOCIO”. Two panels of learned speakers led the discussions on cross border data privacy including APEC Cross Border Privacy Ruling (CBPR) and its challenges.

ASOCIO General Assembly and Digital Summit were held in Tokyo, Japan on 7th and 8th November 2018 respectively in ANA Intercontinental Hotel Tokyo. Both events were co-hosted by Japan Information Technology Services Industry Association (JISA). 7th November General Assembly

8th November - The ASOCIO Digital Summit A total 850 delegates attended the digital summit with about 200 representatives from 10 member countries including Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. During the opening remarks, David Wong, ASOCIO Chairman’s message was a greater promotion of cooperation and collaborations between developed and developing economies in the region to hasten the digital transformation journey. Hiroshi Yokotsuka, Chairman of JISA addressed the opening ceremony of the Digital Summit and he called upon Japan to play the leadership role in faster deployment of innovative technology in the region. Many renowned and expert speakers took to the stage in sharing their insights and experiences with the audience. The summit was indeed a success in terms of quality of speakers, thought leadership contents, relevance and a huge participations gracing the event. A panel session on the ASOCIO second research report, “ICT Talent Development & Collaboration – Cross Border Opportunities with Asia” moderated by Mr. Woon Tai Hai (Advisor, PIKOM) with three panelists namely Mr. Stan Singh (Chairman of APICTA), Mr. Jeungbae Son (Chair of ASOCIO Research Committee) and Promote Bhongse-Tong (Advisor, ACTI) was held in parallel with the other plenary sessions of the summit. The report was formally lunched during the Gala dinner. The ASOCIO ICT Excellence Awards were also presented to the winners during the Gala dinner. There were total 31 awards presented out to the winners and a special ASOCIO Honorary Award was also awarded to Mr. Abdullah Kafi, the Former Immediate Past Chairman of ASOCIO. This is in recognition and appreciation of his valuable contributions and dedications to ASOCIO and ICT Industries in Asia Pacific region over the years.

Recently, ASOCIO launched its second research report entitled “ICT Talent Development & Collaboration – Cross Border Opportunities within Asia Pacific” during ASOCIO Digital Summit held in Tokyo, Japan on 08 November 2018. This second research report was published by ASOCIO together with collaboration partner, World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) and authored by IDC. Thirteen APAC economies are covered in this report namely Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

The report outlined the ICT talent demand and supply landscape in the 13 economies in Asia Including a closer scrutiny on the potential collaborations and opportunities amongst the economies in the region. IDC have also identified the ICT Talent requirements for ten in-demand job areas in 13 economies in the Asia Pacific along with key initiatives in ICT talent development in the respective economies studied in the report. Please feel free to download a copy of the research report from ASOCIO website and distribute to all members associations.

This year the ASOCIO ICT Excellence Awards have four categories of awards namely Outstanding ICT Company Award, Outstanding User Organization Award, Digital Government Award and ICT Education Award. A total of thirty one individual awards were presented to nine economies award winners during the ASOCIO Digital Summit Gala Dinner held in Tokyo.

The objective of this ICT Excellence Award is to encourage and promote ICT innovations and competitions amongst local ICT companies and organizations in both the private and public sectors in the region. Congratulations to all the recipients who received the awards. It is hope that these winners will continue their track record of industry excellence at global levels and pit themselves against the best of the best. The following are the recipients:

The ASOCIO Multilateral Trade Visit is organized annually by ASOCIO Members, and MCIA is hosting it in Mandalay, Myanmar next year. Target will be about 200 delegates from Myanmar / Asian-Oceanian is expected to participate in the event.

One of the highlights of this MTV is to the creation of trade and partnership opportunities within and beyond ASOCIO boundaries is one of ASOCIO’s key initiatives.
