ItineraryWednesday, May 16 Depart for Rome

!ursday, May 17 Morning: Arrive in Rome Afternoon: We start the tour at the very foundations of the Christian tradition: the catacomb of St. Callixtus on the Appian Way, followed by a walking tour of the Coliseum and Palatine Hill Overnight: Rome

Friday, May 18 Morning: We spend the day today with the noted Italian organist Francesco Cera, who will teach us how to use Italian organs. During the day we will see three of the most notable organs in Rome. Our morning visit is to Chiesa Santa Maria in Vallicella, whose organ was built by Giovanni Guglielmi in 1612. Afternoon: We begin the afternoon with a visit to the famous church of San Giovanni in Laterano, the papal church, which features an instrument from 1598 by Luca Blasi, and conclude by seeing Sant 'Eustachio, which houses a Johann Konrad Werle organ from 1767. Overnight: Rome

Saturday, May 19 Morning and Afternoon: !is is a free day in Rome during which you might like to visit the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Saint Maria Maggiore, the Sistine Chapel, or the Vatican museum. Overnight: Rome

Sunday, May 20 Morning: !is morning we attend mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. !is will include time to take in the Basilica and the famous colonnade. Afternoon: After lunch we depart Rome, driving through its famous hills on our way to Rieti. In Rieti we will visit Santa Scolastica – with its Cesare Catarinozzi organ from 1720. In addition, we will make a stop at San Georgio to

see a "ne organ by the contemporary Italian builder Pinchi. Overnight: Rieti

Monday, May 21 Morning: !is morning we make the short trek to Assisi, where we will visit San Francesco with its famous frescoes by Giotto and Simone Martini Afternoon After lunch we travel to the lovely city of Siena. During the afternoon we will visit S. Maria della Scala with its 1516 organ by Giovanni Pi#aro. Overnight: Siena

Tuesday, May 22 Morning: We spend the morning in Siena where we visit the church of San Martino. Afternoon: We travel a short distance to Florence where we will see Santa Felicita, with its late 16th century organ by Onofrio Ze$rini . After that it is on to SS. Annunziata, with its 1521 instrument by Domenico di Lorenzo. Overnight: Florence

Wednesday, May 23 Morning and Afternoon: Today is a free day in Florence. Feel free to explore the Duomo, the Medici Chapels, the Accademia Gallery with Michelangelo’s famous David or some of Florence’s great museums: including the U$zi, and the Pitti Palace. Overnight: Florence

!ursday, May 24 Morning: !is morning we travel to Bologna, home of the oldest university in the world, and some of the greatest Italian organs. !is morning we will visit San Petronio (Lorenzo da Prato 1471 and the Baldssarre Malamini organ from 1596) Afternoon: During the afternoon we go to San Martino to play the Giovanni Cipri organ from 1564. Overnight: Bologna

Friday, May 25 Morning: Today should be a wonderful change of pace. We will tour the Tagliavini museum with its exceptional collection of keyboard instruments dating from the 16th to the 19th century Afternoon: During the afternoon we will travel to Mantova and see the Basilica of Santa Barbara (the church of the Gonzaga palace, where much of Monteverdi’s sacred music was performed for the "rst time) where we will play the Graziadio Antegnati organ from 1567. Overnight: Mantova

Saturday, May 26 Morning: We travel to our "nal destination - the romantic city of Venice. Afternoon: During the afternoon we will see 18th century organs by Gaetano Callido and Pietro Nacchini Overnight: Venice

Sunday, May 27 Morning: We attend mass at the famous church of San Marco, home to the Gabrielis in the 16th century. Afternoon: !e afternoon is free for you to take a gondola ride, explore the Lido or visit the Doge’s palace Evening: We have our traditional farewell meal together Overnight: Venice

Monday, May 28 Morning: Depart for U.S.

CostsKU European Organ Study tours are designed "rst for KU organ and church music students and alumni. We welcome others who are interested in joining us on the tour. !ere is a price break for KU students and alumni. !is year the tour price does not include airfare to or from the U.S. !e tour price is: KU Organ and Church Music Majors: $1100 KU Organ and Church Music Alumni: $2500 All Others: $3100!is price includes travel within Europe, lodging, daily breakfast, and nine other meals. !e price is based on double occupancy. Tour participants may specify a roommate or be assigned one. A single room supplement is available. Not included are the remaining meals and the tip to the bus driver. R&R Travel reserves the right to alter the cost or length of the tour based on the number of participants or %uctuating airfares. It may be cancelled due to an insu$cient number of participants.
