Following on from what I wrote several

weeks ago it was very pleasing to see the

way our students performed at the

P.S.S.A. Area Swimming Carnival at

Armidale last Tuesday. Jack Isedale was

especially impressive; to be representing

our Area at the State Carnival in three

events is outstanding.

All our swimmers tried their best and

behaved most creditably on the day. It is

great to know when students are away at

events such as this that the image they

project for our school is so positive.

CELEBRATING SENIORS’ WEEK

WITH A GRANDPARENTS DAY Next week we celebrate seniors’ week in our

community and once again our school will be

participating. We are inviting all seniors and all

grandparents to visit our school on Thursday

24th March.

Beginning at 10.30 our students in K-2 will be

providing some entertainment under the big

awning in front of their classrooms. This is always

a hit and gives the younger students a chance to

show grandma and grandpa how clever they are at

dance and singing!

A morning tea, organized by our P&C, will follow

at 11.00am.From there seniors and grandparents

might like to visit our hall where they will be en-

tertained with a short performance by our clever

musicians – the choir, recorder groups and some

percussion as well as a performance by 6D. From

the hall everyone can then visit their grandchil-

dren, or students and teachers generally, in their

classrooms.

We will have senior students available to show

you where to go. All seniors and grandparents are most welcome.

We are all looking forward to your visit. CANTEEN NEWS

possible.

Last Friday the District Soccer trials were held here in Coonabarabran. There was only a small contingent

of girls and there were approximately 13 boys. Every single pupil played to their ability in the mixed

games that were played. The teams were mixed and they all played very competitively. As a teacher I

must commend all the players in the way they played the games and the exemplary conduct they showed

while away from school.

Following is a report written by Nick Willoughby.

On Friday 11th March , 12 pupils went down to Number Two oval to represent our school. All

Competitors showed great skill and advanced to the next level, which will be played in Gunnedah.

Grace Allan, Teaghan Barron, Oska Brooker, Nick Willoughby, Jake McGlashan, Byron Coe,

Tyler Frazer, Ian Whittall, Zak Kelly, Isaac McElhinney, Jason Joseph and Brady Keys were all chosen.

We wish all the players the best of luck at the next level.

Last Tuesday a contingent of twenty of our students went to Armidale as part of the

Coonabarabran Zone team to compete at the P.S.S.A. Area Swimming Trials. These trials

involved students from 99 schools from the north-west area of N.S.W. The weather was

pleasant and the water temperature fine for swimming.

Standout performances on the day came from Ned and Jack Isedale who were third and first

respectively in their 50m freestyle events. Jack was also first in his 50m butterfly and the

Senior Boys Relay Team consisting of Nick Willoughby, Jack Isedale, Jalyle Riley and

Clayton Carr came third in their event. All will be going to Homebush as part of the Area

Team to swim at the P.S.S.A. State Trials at the end of this month.

Apart from those boys other top 10 finishes on the day came from Darcy Clifton (8th in 8 Years

Boys 50m Freestyle), Fergus Atkinson (7th in 9 Years Boys 50m Freestyle), Nick Willoughby

(10th in 12 Years Boys 50m Freestyle, 10th in 12 years Boys 50m Breaststroke, 4th in 12 Years

Boys 50m Backstroke, 5th in 12 Years Boys 50m Butterfly and 10th in 12 Years Boys Medley),

Jack Isedale (5th in Boys 11 Years 50m Breaststroke) and Kadesha Ayoub (5th in 11Years Girls

50m Backstroke).

In addition to some fine results everyone should be proud of the behaviour of our competitors

who were excellent ambassadors for our school throughout the day.

The above trials have been held at lunchtimes over the past three weeks. Boys and girls with

better than average tennis skills were invited to trial with the goal being to gain selection in

the school squad with a maximum of four boys and four girls to attend the Zone trials in

Mendooran on Friday 4th March.

Seven boys and disappointingly no girls, made the effort and turned up to the trials. The boys:

Clayton Carr, Tyrone Walker, Byron Coe, Tyson Farrell, Jordan Johnson, Jarod Moody and

Logan Sim were matched against each other in a series of skills sessions and games, those

that displayed good skills and a knowledge of the game were ranked in ability order and after

much deliberation four boys were chosen. Clayton, Tyrone, Jordan and Tyson gained final

selection and at the time of writing had not competed at Mendooran.

Many thanks to the boys for their enthusiasm and willingness to try hard and listen to

coaching tips that could improve their game. Last year Jack Masman was successful in

competing at State level and these boys have the same aspirations.

Thanks also to the Carr and Johnson families for providing transport and supervising the boys

at Mendooran. As with most sporting activities this event is subsidized by the school

Sportsfund, a self generated fund of money designed to make it easier for any child at this

school to be able to compete at their highest level of proficiency in the PSSA.

Congratulations to Clayton and Jordan for their selection to compete at the NW trials which

were held in Tamworth on Monday 14th March. I know that the boys were very happy to have

been able to compete at Mendooran and I’m sure that they are very proud of their efforts, as

we all are, to be chosen to attend this NW carnival.

TENNIS UPDATE

4/5K have had a very busy start to the year and have been involved in so

many fun activities already. We have all enjoyed ourselves participating

in the ‘Welcome Yr 3 Socia’l, ‘Iki’, ‘Clean Up Australia’ and much more...

We also had an exciting morning over at the showground on Tuesday the

8th March making scarecrows with 4S. We worked in teams to collect

the materials and construct the scarecrows which we then entered into

the Annual Scarecrow Competition.
