AboutEagleEyePrecision™

At Eagle Eye Precision AmmunitionTM, we are a group of engineers, statisticians and shooting aficionados

who have vast experience in aerospace, biotech and working for the largest names in the ammunition

business. While some favor accuracy by volume, we prefer to get the job done the first time with one

exactly placed shot.

We founded Eagle Eye PrecisionTM to bring innovative new engineering, manufacturing processes and

unmatched levels of accuracy to the shooter. As a group of shooting aficionados, our goal was simple: to

provide ourselves and other shooters 1/2 minute of angle or better ammunition from a commercial off

the shelf cartridge.

Before Eagle Eye PrecisionTM, in order to consistently obtain 1/2 minute of angle precision, shooters

were forced to painstakingly hand load ammunition while performing quality control checks on

components such as weighing bullets or measuring and resizing cases. With modern 21st century

manufacturing processes and quality systems we believe that a shooter should be able to pick up Eagle

Eye Precision AmmunitionTM off the shelf in any store anywhere in the world and find that it performs

consistently every time. Companies in other industries such as biotech and material sciences are

routinely manufacturing commercial products on the scale of 10x‐9 meters (nano) or smaller. In today's

world, isn't it about time the ammunition industry is able to offer commercial off the shelf cartridges

that can shoot 1/2 minute of angle from every lot? We think so.

KeyFeaturesofEagleEyePrecision™Ammunition:

Consistent breathing, consistent trigger press and consistent ammunition are all essential to achieving

the smallest groups and precise shot placement every time. A minute of angle is an angular unit of

measure commonly used in shooting sports and ballistics research to quantify dispersion or group size.

One minute of angle equates to approximately 1 inch at 100 yards and 1/2 minute of angle equates to

approximately 1/2 inch at 100 yards. For comparison purposes, the diameter of a US dime is

approximately 0.7 inches. In order to achieve hole in hole accuracy and to hit targets beyond 1,000 yards

shot after shot, the ammunition needed to perform to 1/2 minute of angle or better; anything more will

let a shooter down. To ensure our ammunition can exceed the demands of the world's best competition

shooters and military marksmen, every lot is factory tested to 1/2 minute of angle or better. If a lot

does not pass our 1/2 minute of angle test, it does not ship to customers.

1) We utilize the most modern manufacturing processes, statistical process control and six sigma

methodologies to ensure the highest quality product with minimum variance

a. The result of our manufacturing and quality control processes is ammunition that will

rival hand loads in both consistency and performance

2) Every lot is guaranteed to shoot ½ minute of angle or better before leaving the factory

a. This offers consistent lot to lot performance so shooters can rely on their ammunition

every time

3) We use the highest quality impurity free CuZn28 brass in our 28 step production process

including 6 separate annealing phases

a. This allows for the ability to reload cases 10+ times

b. This ensures the optimal gradation between a hard primer pocket and soft throat

c. The highest quality raw brass produces cases with the smallest mass and dimensional

tolerances

4) Our ammunition is thermally stable and offers consistent performance in ranges of

environments

a. We utilize manufacturing and testing facilities located in Finland and in Arizona

EagleEyePrecision™Cases

1. Eagle Eye™ offers proprietary cases (not Lapua or Lake City surplus for example) that are made from

raw brass discs (not third party cups) of the highest quality CuZn28 brass which are free from

impurities such as tin, bismuth and lead.

2. This allows for the ability to reload cases 10+ times

3. Reviews have found that Eagle EyeTM cases mass and dimensional standard deviations that are

typically 1/3 to 1/2 of the competition’s

4. Eagle Eye™ cases undergo 6 different annealing processes (not just neck annealing) to create a more

homogenous structure at the molecular level

5. Eagle Eye™ cases are sliced into multiple different sections and the hardness is measured at each

slice to ensure a very hard primer pocket that will experience less fatigue or 'loosening' than

standard brass cases over multiple reloads while providing a softer neck for consistent tension and

expansion

EagleEyePrecision™Projectile‐.308WIN:

Eagle EyeTM 308 vs. Sierra Match King 308

1. Innovative bullet designs featuring an Extended Bearing Surface (EBS) which minimizes sensitivity to

factors such as seating depth and chamber cut allowing for excellent performance in a wide range of

rifles.

2. Optimized symmetry and boat tail design combined with modern quality systems yields a more

consistent mass distribution and thus principal axis of inertia around which the bullet rotates. This

improves stability, accuracy and offers more consistent trajectories by reducing yaw, pitch and

precession while reducing the spin rate of the projectile.

3. Bullet design elements and high muzzle velocities keep Eagle Eye’s .308 Win Precision Match™ 175gr

projectile stable at and beyond 1,000 yards

4. Eagle Eye™ proprietary bullet jackets (not j4) are also made using a brass composition free from

impurities which combined with state of the art quality systems improves concentricity and mass

symmetry.

MOTUS:

“I tested this ammo in some of the most extreme hot weather temperatures in sunny Arizona in the middle July. When testing this ammo I was mainly running a Sako TRG 22 that has 20 inch barrel with a 1 in 11 twist. The temperature reached as high as 115 degrees that day. With extremes such as these, the ammo was still holding to its true half MOA (Minute of Angle) specifications and better. The best part was that after a string of 5, I was getting a SD (Standard Deviation) of 4 fps (feet per second) and an

extreme deviation of 13 FPS, which is unheard of for factory ammo in ideal conditions. “

“There is nothing bad to be said about this ammo and it is by far the most consistent factory ammunition that I have shot in a decade of precision long‐range shooting.”

Sin City Precision Gun Club: "The next group I shot at 100 yards was 5 rounds and I feel is a true representation of what the rifle/ammunition combination is capable of, the group measured 0.184”/.176 MOA! Both Dane and I were pretty blown away when we walked up to the target to see just how good it was. "

"After our experience with Eagle Eye Precision™ Ammunition we have to admit we are impressed. The

SD on the 14 rounds Tyler fired over the Magneto Speed V3 chronograph came in at 9.1 fps. That beats

the 5 rounds of hand loaded 6.5mm Creedmoor I fired earlier today which registered an SD of 11.2 fps."

"When you consider that this ammunition is factory loaded and made to perform in a wide variety of

rifles chambered in .223 and .308 do you realize how impressive the results really are."

"Our friend Anette Wachter, a member of the 2015 U.S. Palma Team, recently tested some .308 Win ammo from Eagle Eye Precision. We have heard good things about this ammunition, and Anette (aka 30 Cal Gal) confirms that it shoots great. Here is her impressive 200‐yard test target. Anette posted: “Most amazing out of box ammo I have shot. First six rounds at 200 yards test” "Using OnTarget group‐measuring software, we measured Anette’s 6‐shot group at 0.445″ (center‐to‐center). That’s 0.212 MOA. That’s right, Anette’s group measured under quarter‐MOA at 200 yards. For reference, a dime is 0.705″ in diameter. ” Read the full article at: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2015/02/eagle‐eye‐ammo‐impressive‐308‐win‐factory‐loads/

"If you are a top‐tier competitor like Kelly or Glenn, Eagle Eye lets you shoot your best without having to spend the time handloading. If you’re still building those skills, it means that you can learn that much faster, because you don’t have to wonder if a pulled shot was you or the ammo (it was you). You can learn to accurately call your shots that much more quickly." "It means you can get handload quality from a factory produced product." "Is Eagle Eye Ammunition the most consistent loading of .308 Winchester that we have ever seen? Yep. Is it more consistent than Federal Gold Medal Match? Myth confirmed."

"Center to center these are roughly 1/3 MoA groups, which is better than the 1/2 MoA guaranteed on the box, despite being from different lots. With Eagle Eye you’re not just paying for a box of consistent ammunition, you’re paying for ammunition that will be consistent with itself no matter which two boxes you pick up off the shelves and how long you wait in between shopping trips. You’re always getting the same load with the same consistency and velocity." Read the full article at: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/11/foghorn/ammunition‐review‐eagle‐eye‐ammunition/

Eagle Eye Precision Ammunition

Hand loading is synonymous with long range precision rifle shooting. We have all heard “consistency isaccuracy”, which is a continuous theme in our sport and printed on every box of Eagle Eye Ammunition. That saying applies to more than just your ammunition when shooting long range. Many of us hand loadbecause traditionally we can produce higher quality lots of ammunition for our rifle than we can purchase.Hand loading is a time consuming process and it seems you either love it, or hate it. I fall into the “hate it”category, but because of my passion for practical long range precision rifle shooting I spend a lot of timebehind the reloading press.

Those of us who prefer to purchase our ammunitionrather than load it, buy “match grade” ammunition.Match grade refers to ammunition suitable forcompetition use, sometimes simply changing theprojectile used in the ammunition is enough to deemit match grade. This is where Eagle Eye Ammunitionis different. They are a Six Sigma company, meaning the quality control of the product is built intoevery aspect of its production. They use a set oftechniques and tools that allow them to maintain avery small bell curve when measuring variances intheir components and finished product. I’m not goingto pretend to know exactly how the quality

assurance process works, but if you would like to know more I suggest reading the explanation from TheFirearm Blog under “Warning- Science Ahead”. They did a great job in explaining how Eagle Eye

.308 Winchester Ammunition.

Testing with my AR-15.

Ammunition ensures an extreme level of quality control. That level of quality control combined with top ofthe line components allows Eagle Eye to produce very accurate and truly match grade ammunition. Wheredoes Eagle Eye get their components? They manufacture their own .223 and .308 brass along with .308projectiles. Creating these components in house and applying their QA program the manufacture of thecomponents further ensures the performance of the finished product.

What do the best components and an extreme levelof quality control get you? Also printed on the box istheir 0.5 MOA guarantee for both their .223Remington and .308 Winchester ammunition. That isa pretty lofty guarantee especially when consideringthe variables in different rifles and the liabilityassociated with ammunition. They have to produce.223 Remington and .308 Winchester ammunitionthat will safely function and fire in every riflechambered for those cartridges. To achieve the 0.5MOA guarantee we expect low extreme spread andstandard deviation numbers. Which proof of, can befound on the Eagle Eye Facebook page. We alsoexpect consistency throughout the different lots of ammunition produced. If you stop by their website, youwill learn that Eagle Eye Ammunition uses actual shooters and factory rifles for the final testing of each lotof ammunition they produce! This is a very practical manner to test the ammunition and uphold the 0.5MOA guarantee.

When the ammunition arrived I was excited to openthe package. I already had a few things in mind thatI wanted to do. First, I wanted to see how consistentthe weights of the loaded cartridges were. To have acomparison or bench mark I first weighted 20 of myhand loaded 6.5mm Creedmoor rounds left overfrom the Sin City Precision monthly practical LR riflematch. I shoot and reload a lot of 6.5mmCreedmoor. My reloading process in not nearly asinvolved as what a Bench Rest shooter might do, butI do carefully weigh every charge and do my brasspreparation in phases by lot. This allows me toensure every case has had the same process done

to it; de-prime, clean, lubricate, FL resize (0.0015”-0.002” head space bump), trim/chamfer, re-prime,charge and seat projectile. This method allows me to also maintain 0.5 MOA or better accuracy withoutspending too much of my free time reloading. To me the task is still arduous especially when loading 200-250 rounds in preparation for a Precision Rifle Series match.

The spread in weight is what I’m really paying attention to, across 20 hand loaded 6.5mm Creedmoorrounds, the difference from the lowest weight to the highest weight was 7.4 grains. The spread in loadedrounds contains all the combine weight variances in; primer, brass, bullet and powder charge. Aftermeasuring 20 rounds from the first package of Eagle Eye.308 Winchester ammunition I pulled out of thebox I was surprised by a spread of only 3.6 grains. That is less than half the spread from my hand loaded6.5mm Creedmoor ammunition. The Eagle Eye .223 Remington ammunition was especially impressive witha weight spread of only 1.2 grains!

.223 Remington ammunition

Dane’s .223 Remington trainer.

To test the Eagle Eye .223 Remington ammunition I was able to meet up with my friend and Sin CityPrecision Club President Dane Miller. He brought out his bolt action .223 training rifle. This rifle is veryaccurate and we felt it would allow us to see what the Eagle Eye .223 ammunition was capable of. The rifleis fed by an Accurate Mag AICS style 10 round magazine. The rounds fit with a little bit of room to spare, this was also the case when loading the rounds in an AR-15 magazine.

After firing a round or two, to get the rifle on paper Ishot my first 100 yard group. The 3 roundsmeasured 0.321”/.307 MOA right out of the gates. Ifelt the rifle and ammunition was capable of moreand knew I was the weakest link in the system. Welet the rifle sit for a little bit as we drank water andspent some time visiting. The next group I shot at100 yards was 5 rounds and I feel is a truerepresentation of what the rifle/ammunitioncombination is capable of, the group measured0.184”/.176 MOA! Both Dane and I were prettyblown away when we walked up to the target to seejust how good it was.

After checking the target we went back to 200 yards and it was Dane’s turn on the rifle. He easily shot a 3round group measuring 0.965”/0.461 MOA. We shot the ammunition sparingly and still have a few roundsleft. Unfortunately at the time of my writing this I did not have the opportunity to run the .223 ammunitionover a Magneto Speed V3 chronograph. I hope to get that done in the near future and update this articlewith that information. Aside from the impressive accuracy, all of the rounds we fired functioned perfectlyand did not display ejector marks or pierced primers.

I fired the majority of the .223 ammunition through my AR-15 built with a Primary Weapon Systems 1-8”twist 16.1” long barrel. The rifle also features a Young Manufacturing NM SLC BCG. Despite the qualitycomponents I was not able to achieve 0.5 MOA with the semiautomatic carbine. This gives me the

.308 Winchester Ammunition

Testing .308 Winchester at Nellis Gun Club.

I got lucky with the .308 Winchester ammunition and was able to meet up with my team mate and ProShooter Tyler Frehner at Nellis Gun Club. Tyler was gracious enough to lend a hand with this article bybringing his Desert Tech SRS A-1 with 20” .308 conversion kit. The Desert Technology SRS system is trulyimpressive and capable of extreme accuracy. Tyler also brought his Magneto Speed V3 chronograph so wecould easily check muzzle velocity, extreme spread and standard deviation.

When I arrived Tyler was already on the line sending rounds down range with his 6mm Creedmoor makingpreparations for the Snipers Hide Cup in Colorado. He quickly and easily switched from his 26” 6mm barrelto the 20” .308 for our testing of the Eagle Eye .308 Ammunition. Before getting started Tyler informed methat his .308 barrel has 5,000 rounds + through it and has not been cleaned since 2011. He did not exactlyremember the last time he even shot .308! The first 3 rounds were not impressive but the low SD on thechronograph caught our attention. He loaded up another 5 rounds and the accuracy of the Desert Tech

and Eagle Eye Ammunition cametogether with impressive consecutive5 round groups and a nice cloverleaf 3 round group.

The .308 ammunition functionedperfectly and the low standarddeviation produced by theammunition impressed us. We didtake some long shots at 900 yards insome stout wind and even though Icannot give you and exact ballisticcoefficient for the 175 grain bulletproduced in house by Eagle Eye, Ican tell you we have a strongindication it is higher than the Bryan

Litz information for the 175 grain Sierra Match King.I can go on and on about how good Tyler, theDesert Tech SRS A-1 and Eagle Eye Ammunitionare but instead I’m going to let the pictures do sometalking.

After our experience with Eagle Eye PrecisionAmmunition we have to admit we are impressed. The SD on the 14 rounds Tyler fired over theMagneto Speed V3 chronograph came in at 9.1 fps. That beats the 5 rounds of hand loaded 6.5mmCreedmoor I fired earlier today which registered anSD of 11.2 fps. I plan to update this review once weget the chance to chronograph the .223 Remington

ammunition and we encourage you to check out a statistical analysis of Eagle Eye brass versus Lapuabrass by Kelly Bachand. When you consider that this ammunition is factory loaded and made to perform ina wide variety of rifles chambered in .223 and .308 do you realize how impressive the results really are. Welook forward to more offerings from Eagle Eye Precision Ammunition down the road and hope theyeventually offer ammunition for cartridges like 6.5mm Creedmoor.

Eagle Eye Ammo — Impressive .308 Win Factory Loads

Our friend Anette Wachter, a member of the2015 U.S. Palma Team, recently tested some.308 Win ammo from Eagle Eye Precision. We have heard good things about thisammunition, and Anette (aka 30 Cal Gal)confirms that it shoots great. Here is herimpressive 200-yard test target. Anetteposted: “Most amazing out of box ammo Ihave shot. First six rounds at 200 yards test[is shown at right].”

0.212 MOA at 200 yardsUsing OnTarget group-measuring software,we measured Anette’s 6-shot group at0.445″ (center-to-center). That’s 0.212 MOA.That’s right, Anette’s group measured underquarter-MOA at 200 yards. For reference, adime is 0.705″ in diameter.

Anette’s Group was measured with On-Target Software.

Another U.S. Palma Team member, Top Shot competitor Kelly Bachand, has also tried Eagle Eye ammo.Kelly came away very impressed: “I’ve personally tested this ammunition and in my initial tests it wasas consistent as anything I can hand-load myself. Eagle Eye Precision Ammunition is on the up and up,you’ll have to check it out.”

Eagle Eye Ammo is Verif ied to Shoot 1/ 2 Minute of Angle or BetterRemarkably, every lot of Eagle Eye ammunition is rifle-tested for accuracy. If it doesn’t shoot 1/2-MOAor better, it will not ship. Obviously Eagle Eye can’t guarantee its ammo will shoot this well in everycustomer’s rifle, but this is still an impressive standard. Eagle Eye states:

“At Eagle Eye Precision we guarantee every lot is tested to 1/2 minute of angle or better. One minute ofangle equates to approximately 1 inch at 100 yards and 1/2 minute of angle is approximately 1/2 inch at100 yards. For comparison, the diameter of a dime is approximately 0.7 inches. Therefore, Eagle EyePrecision 1/2 minute of angle (0.5 inch) groups are smaller than a dime at 100 yards. Eagle Eye Precisionammunition is test fired with real rifles (not accuracy barrels bolted to a bench) at 100 yards. If thegroup size from the test exceeds 1/2 inch we reject and scrap the lo t. If we are not absolutelycertain a lot of ammunition can shoot 1/2 minute of angle we do not ship it to customers.”

I had the opportunity recently to attend a demonstration of a new ammunition brand coming on the market, which is dedicated to maximum accuracy and consistency. It’s called Eagle Eye, and I came away pretty impressed…

A Different Philosophy

Sake TRG-22 – one of several test rifles

Eagle Eye Ammunition wasn’t started by a businessman or an opportunistic investor or a corporate committee – it was started by a scientist. That should pique yourcuriosity – I know it perked up my ears. Justin Brown, the surprisingly young company President, looks like he belongs in Silicon Valley, and speaks like he belongs infront of the blackboard in a college calculus classroom. What does this have to do with ammunition? Everything, because ammunition manufacture is entirely anexercise in consistency and precision.

The idea behind Eagle Eye is to take ammunition manufacture, an industrial process that hasn’t changed much since World War II, and subject it to a modern

understanding of quality and process control. Have you ever wondered why it is taken for granted that handloading will produce more consistent ammo than factoryproduction? As a society we have been perfecting the science of making identical copies of things ever since the M1819 Hall Rifle established truly practicalinterchangeable parts. Is it really true that with nearly 200 years of practice we still can’t have industrial ammo production match the quality of a guy in a room with acommercial digital scale?

No, we can do it – but nobody bothered to until Eagle Eye.

Eagle Eye guarantees 1/2 MOA accuracy with both they .308 and .223 ammunition, and it’s not just marketing BS. The short version of how they do this is that theytest ammo continuously during production and stopping the line any time something starts to deviate too much. Not when it falls out of spec, but when it is statisticallytrending away from the expected standard. The testing is done with real rifles (Tikkas, mostly) in sleds in an indoor tunnel range at 100 yards.

Warning – Science Ahead!

When Justin discovered that I have an engineering degree and a basic understanding of industrial process control, his eyes lit up and his brain kicked into overdrive. He has a far deeper understanding of the subject than I do, but I was at least able to keep up with the main concepts. I think it is worth taking a moment to describethe statistical science behind this company, because that is really the heart of what makes it so good. However, it may cause your eyes to glaze over – proceed atyour own risk.

The simple and old-fashioned method of quality control is setting a standard and then testing the finished product to see if it is in spec. If it isn’t, you throw it out. Thatis a wasteful process, because by the time you discover that something is wrong you have already made a lot of product that is now scrap. So the spec is often setrather generously to avoid scrap, and the testing is often used to sort the really good product from the just barely acceptable. If a company were a bit unscrupulous, they might then make sure that the best product batches went to the high-visibility clients and other influential trend-setters, and sell them lower grade material on theregular commercial market to folks whose opinion isn’t so important. Not a good situation.

With modern SPC (statistical process control), variables are measured throughout the production process, and carefully tracked. A baseline can be determined forany given step in to process – for example, we know that the standard deviation in measurement X is, say, 5mm. Each measurement at that step of the process isplotted on a chart and the trendline calculated. It becomes immediately mathematically apparent when the measurements start to show more variation that expected, even before the measurements start to fall out of spec. So if any measurement between 2 and 3 is acceptable and in spec, but I start to get a lot of 2.80 and 2.90 and2.95 data points, I know something is wrong before anything has been produced out of spec, and I can stop the machine to determine what is causing the problemand fix it. In a product manufactured under an effective SPC regime, the final end-product testing is pretty much a formality, instead of being the primary qualitydeterminant.

This is what allows Eagle Eye to make the ambitious claim of 1/2 MOA in every box and stand by it. They have quality machinery coupled with a thoroughly modernmathematical quality control process and an ambitious goal to provide the best possible ammunition for people who need it, like competitive shooters and lawenforcement agencies. They produce their own cases from scratch (from a flat brass disk, no less, instead of a preformed cup). They produce their own projectiles forthe .308 ammo (the .223 currently uses a Sierra projectile, but Eagle Eye’s own .223 bullet is on the way). They monitor the exact composition of the brass for bothcases and jackets, because slight changes can ripple into inconsistencies in wall thickness or concentricity. They use Vihtavuori powder, because it’s the bestavailable. They use CCI Match primers, because, as Justin explained to me, their laboratory testing showed no statistically significant difference between those andanything Eagle Eye could have produced in-house.

In the Real World

Anyone can talk a good game, but the truth will come out on the range – and 1/2 MOA is a pretty bold claim. That’s a standard beyond the capability of a great manyrifles and shooters (myself included). So Eagle Eye invited me out to a range demonstration with some rifles and shooters that could truly wring the full potential out oftheir ammo. In particular, they had Kelly Bachand (US Rifle Team member and multiple title holder) and Glenn Dubis (Olympian and multiple world record holder)shooting a Sako TRG-22 at 100 yards. Here are the results:

Eagle Eye .308 test targets. All 3-round groups shot at 100 yards in front of witnesses. In the bottom set, each group

used one cartridge from each of 3 different lots of ammo.

That third row of shots are particularly impressive, as they are 3-round groups each using cartridges from three different lots of ammo. With Eagle Eye, you don’t

need to stock up on a single lot number to get consistency – every box is the same down to a level that only the absolute top handful of shooters will be able todetermine.

While we stood back and watched, they shot these groups right there on the spot, and we ran a bunch of ammo through a chronograph. The best results came in at astandard deviation of 8fps (extreme spread 21 fps) in 5 rounds of .308, and the worst batch had a standard deviation of 21fps (also .308). The typical standarddeviation was in the low teens, across a variety of rifles.

Practical Implications

Will Eagle Eye mean I start shooting half minute groups with a 1960s Ishapore 2A1 Enfield in .308? Um, no. Your group size won’t be any better than the worstperforming element of the shooting trinity of gun, ammo, and shooter. Just because it’ll shoot a half minute from a Tikka in the indoor target range (which it will) won’tchange things like changing wind, how well you can read that wind, what the condition of your muzzle crown is like, or whether you have a tendency to drag thetrigger left or right.

If you are a top-tier competitor like Kelly or Glenn, Eagle Eye lets you shoot your best without having to spend the time handloading. If you’re still building those skills,it means that you can learn that much faster, because you don’t have to wonder if a pulled shot was you or the ammo (it was you). You can learn to accurately callyour shots that much more quickly. If you supply an agency that can’t handload for liability reasons, it means you can get handload quality from a factory producedproduct.

If you’ve done any serious load development for a precision rifle, you will know that different rifle don’t necessarily shoot best with the same loads. Some like a littlemore (or less) velocity or a slightly different bullet design than others. Eagle Eye doesn’t change that either, but it’s an excellent starting point. In fact, one of theelements that Eagle Eye kept in mind when designing their cartridges was trying to have them perform well in as wide a range of chamber s and barrels as possible. That’s why their .223 offering is a 69gr bullet and not something heavier – 69gr will run well is a significantly wider range of twist rates and chamber profiles. Theirproprietary .308 projectile has a bit more bearing surface than some of the super high-performance designs out there, which allows it to mbe much less finicky aboutthings like exact seating depth. In other words, they have done everything possible to get you the best performance our of the box in your rifle.

There will always be a place for handloaders who want to experiment with the most minute details of pairing a rifle and cartridge together, but I believe that Eagle Eyeis an excellent solution for the folks who are more interested in spending time at the range practicing than time in the shop loading. It is currently priced at $38/box for.308 and $32/box for .223, and can be ordered through your favorite dealer or direct from Eagle Eye.

First Look: Eagle Eye Ammunition

By Nick Leghorn on October 30, 2014

There are a lot of ammunition manufacturers out there that make some rather impressive claims about accuracy, but so far very few havebeen able to back those claims up with solid performance. We have been testing the big names in the ammunition world, and so far thosetests seem to put Winchester on the top of the pack. Even then, they don’t make any claims about the accuracy of their ammo. Eagle Eye isa new ammunition manufacturer that not only claims to be the best on the market, but backs it up with a guarantee — 1/2 MoA accuracyfrom every box, every time. But it gets better . . .

Even if you find a box of ammo that works with your gun, that doesn’t mean that it will always work. Pro shooters, especially those in theprecision shooting world, do something called “lot testing.” There can be massive variation in everything from case thickness andcomposition to powder charge between different lots of the same SKU of ammunition, and that can mean the difference between a onehole group and not even hitting the target. I have not so fond memories of doing lot testing of Eley ammunition back in college to try andfind a lot that worked in my Anschutz .22lr rifle, and despairing at the idea of doing it all again when that lot eventually ran out. Eagle Eyewants to end that process by guaranteeing that every lot will be identical, every single time.

I first heard about Eagle Eye when I was contacted by Holger Kamin, a charismatic German who is currently in charge of their mediarelations. Holger isn’t just some PR guy — he has a pedigree in this industry. He’s been off running his own deep sea lure manufacturingbusiness lately, but at one time he was the head of sales and marketing for Lapua. He made the above claims to me, and I was veryinterested in seeing if they could pull it off.

The secret to their success: a massive nerd.

The man behind the company is Justin Brown (Ph.D.), and he comes from the medical world instead of the firearms world. His idea ofprecision and consistency is much, much higher than anything the ammunition companies currently cranking out rounds uses. If you haveany doubts about his statistical background, simply mention the mean radius shot group measurement standard and sit back as he unleashesa full hour long dissertation on exactly how dumb that idea is. He brought that love of statistics to the ammunition manufacturing process, and the results are something that a number of notable people are standing behind.

I spent a few days this week hanging out with the Eagle Eye guys and their sponsored shooters, including Kelly Bachand (of Top Shotfame) and Glenn Dubis (who has a rather impressive number of world records in shooting). They wanted to show off what the ammunitioncan do, and they made a very compelling argument. They started by showing off some chronograph results that showed their ammunition’sstandard deviation being smaller than the IQR of the best ammo we have tested yet (FYI, StDev is a bigger range than IQR, hence theimpressiveness), but it didn’t end there. They shot a bunch of 3-round groups to prove that the ammunition is indeed performing to thespec, but then they changed it up.

Page 26: Eagle Eye Media Binder 9.22.2015

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/10/foghorn/first-look-eagle-eye-ammunition/ 3/17

They had three different lots of ammunition on the table. For these three groups above, they fired one round from each lot into the group. The results of any other ammunition brand would normally be much bigger groups than when grabbing from the same lot, but in this casethe groups were still just as impressive. These groups were fired from 100 yards with a custom bolt action rifle from Desert Arms calledthe X24, but even with factory guns the groups were remarkably small.

There’s some real potential here. No need to re-zero for every new lot, no wondering if the ammo you’re using is going to suddenly startshooting remarkably different from one box to the next, and a much tighter group than with any other brand on the market. We’ve gotsome of their ammo on hand for further testing and a full review, but from what I’ve seen I am very damn impressed.

Ammunition Review: Eagle Eye Precision Match .308 Win

By Nick Leghorn on November 14, 2014

It isn’t often that a new ammunition manufacturer comes onto the market, and even more rare is one that makesclaims as big as Eagle Eye. They don’t simply claim to be “match grade” and then leave you gessing as to what thatmeans, they print their guarantee right on the box: 1/2 MoA groups from every box of ammunition. It’s a bold claim,

Page 28: Eagle Eye Media Binder 9.22.2015

and they sent me home with a couple boxes of ammunition confident that the product will speak for itself. I put itthrough the standard ammunition testing that we do here, and the results are pretty cool.

We have already looked a little at the background of this ammunition in our first look article, so now it’s time to put itto the test.

To give you a quick refresher on the setup, we run a box of ammunition through the chronograph and analyze theresults. I have been using InterQuartile Range (IQR) for the metric to compare everyone, but after talking to the nerdsat Eagle Eye I think I’ve finally been convinced to switch to Standard Deviation (StDev) as the metric instead — itgives a better idea of the variability of the ammunition. But just comparing the ammunition to the rest of the stuff I’vedone already wasn’t enough — I wanted to see how well it did against their prime competitor.

Page 29: Eagle Eye Media Binder 9.22.2015

Federal Gold medal Match is the gold standard when it comes to precision ammunition — everyone who needs aconsistent commercial load uses it. So in order to see how well Eagle Eye performed, I figured it would be best todirectly compare it against the best Federal has to offer. Same gun, same chrono, same atmospheric conditions.

I threw in a couple other brands for comparison in the boxplot, but you can already see a clear winner when it comesto the Eagle Eye versus Federal Gold medal Match grudge match. One is clearly superior in both interquartile rangeand extreme spread, and it ain’t the old guard. Heck, Eagle Eye even beat the best that Hornady has to offer, for those

Page 30: Eagle Eye Media Binder 9.22.2015

who believe the red box is superior to all else.

A quick note about the Winchester ammunition: upon reflection, I really didn’t have enough data to make a call aboutthat ammo. I only have a few data points compared to the 20 that I have for everyone else, and it isn’t really fair. That’s why you see the outlier in the boxplot — there isn’t enough data to fit that into the bell curve. I’ve removedthat ammunition from the charts for now, and will re-add it when I get more data down the road.

Moving to the bar graph, there’s definitely a clear winner. I re-calculated everyone’s scores from IQR to StDev, re-ordered the results based on the new scores, and the results were very surprising. Eagle Eye ammunition is the officialtop of the chart, clocking in at 20 feet per second standard deviation. As for the best offering Federal has on tap, theycould only muster up 23.5 feet per second as their StDev. What’s really funny is that the box of cheap-o Hertersammunition I ran through on a lark had a standard deviation of 21, which is better than Federal Gold Medal Match(and like three times cheaper).

Page 31: Eagle Eye Media Binder 9.22.2015

More interesting that Eagle Eye simply being the best: it remains the best (and remains consistent) between differentlots of ammunition. Take, for example, these three 100-yard groups. Normally, you would need three rounds from thesame lot to make a group that small — variability between different lots of ammunition is too great to be accurateotherwise. But for these three groups, the pro shooters behind Eagle Eye used one round each from three different lotsof ammunition to make these three round groups. Center to center these are roughly 1/3 MoA groups, which is betterthan the 1/2 MoA guaranteed on the box, despite being from different lots. With Eagle Eye you’re not just paying fora box of consistent ammunition, you’re paying for ammunition that will be consistent with itself no matter which twoboxes you pick up off the shelves and how long you wait in between shopping trips. You’re always getting the sameload with the same consistency and velocity.

Is Eagle Eye Ammunition the most consistent loading of .308 Winchester that we have ever seen? Yep. Is it moreconsistent than Federal Gold Medal Match? Myth confirmed. It’s really great to see a new ammunition manufacturerwho is able to crank out more consistent ammunition than anyone else on the market, and I’m looking forward to howthe established ammo manufacturers scramble to respond.

By Nick Leghorn on January 30, 2015

When it comes to reviewing firearms, you’re only as good as your tools. We here at TTAG are known for our no-holds-barred approach to gun reviews, and while we’vedone our level best to use quality ammunition for the accuracy testing portion of these reviews, the fact is that we can do better. Eagle Eye Ammunition is the mostconsistent ammunition I have ever tested, and now they are teaming up with us to become our official test ammunition supplier for gun reviews. Going forward . . .

we will be using Eagle Eye ammo for the accuracy testing portion of all our reviews, meaning we will finally have a consistent yardstick with which to measure everyfirearm and a means to directly compare them to one another. Even as this post is published I’m out on the range testing some new rifles with ammo they’ve provided, and I’m really looking forward to the results. Stay tuned.
