    PE NEWS

Grades 4-6 students have completed their fall fitnessassessments. They will be tested again in the springand will hopefully show continued improvement. Many 4th-6th graders were successful in their first 2months of Marathon Club jogging. In November we

will attempt to jog for 5 minutes straight! We havehad fun playing parachute games, tagging games, cooperative team games, and golf in PE!

We are so fortunate to have The First Tee workingwith Wednesday morning PE classes and we are usingour modified golf equipment, called SNAG equipment,to play golf school-wide. We are working on the threegolf shots of putting, chipping, and driving. Finally,we have played many Halloween games thatincorporate gross motor skills with Halloween fun.

Thank you for sending your child to school on PE dayprepared to play with appropriate play clothes andtennis shoes. It really helps to keep our kids safe.Health tip: Did you know elementary age schoolchildren need 9 hours of sleep per night? So do PEteachers!

I have a friend named Parker Ross. He is new to Euper Lane

and is one of my best friends. Recently, Parker went to

Houston, Texas to, after four and a half years of back-breaking

training in karate, claim his BLACK BELT!!! Not just that, he

also received a sword and a suit which you can see in thephoto at right. When I asked him, Was it amazing when you

got your black belt? he responded, It feels amazing - like an

experience that youve never felt in your life! He also said

that it is hard. The hardest thing is the time it takes. Parker

said that he practiced four days a week and that the test for

the black belt lasted five HOURS! The funny thing was when I

asked When you started karate, did you think you would be

this far already? and he said, No, I did not think I would make

it to a yellow belt. I accomplished the unknown through amiracle. Now heres what youve all been waiting for - my

question was Why did you start?. He said I started because I

thought it was going to be fun and it was an opportunity to

kick butt and defend my butt! So, if you see him, pat him on

the back and congratulate him. Dont say anything negative

to him because the last thing youll want is to get punched in

the face by a seventeen-medal-and-one-trophy ninja!

    P. S. People in Kuk Sol Won cant become ninja rank but I callhim that anyway. After all, he earned it!

I have many friends but Emma is one of my best friends! She

loves school. She does Cotillion like me! She is very smart,

funny, an awesome friend, and very nice, so please dont be

mean to her. She has a little sister named Caroline who is inMrs. Gross first grade class. Emma is in Mrs. Keys fifth grade

class like me. Emma is eleven years old, born on July the 8th,

1999. She sometimes wears brown glasses. That is a little bit

about one of my best friends, Emma Robison. If you see

Emma, say hey Emma, whats up, or something like that.

Mrs. Feliciaby Austin Thomas and Elijah Merrin, Second Grade

Mrs. Felicia, the lunch lady, started working at Euper

Lane Elementary in 2008, but has worked in the Fort

Smith school system since 2000. She worked at other

schools before this. She is happily married to her

husband, Orey. Mrs. Felicia has two children, both boys,

ages 20 and 15 years old. She also has a brother and anephew. The one thing she would like to do is to choose

what foods she serves to the children for lunch. She really

loves her job and working at Euper Lane.

PIE in the FACEby Makaia Peterson, Fifth Grade

The day Ms. Penix and Mr. Hi

got a pie in the face was

    amazing. Listening to the whol

    school chanting was getting me

all pumped up. Pie in the

FACE!!! Pie in the FACE!!! Ms.Penix seemed to have blast.

Mr. Hill did too, and Mrs.

    Weatherford seemed to love it.

I asked Taylor Stubblefield if sh

    had fun. She said YEAH!.

Well now you know some things

about the Pie in the Face.

Animals are known as furry, kind, sweet and loving, but

they are more. Some creatures can be your family or

helpers. If you would like to experience one, there are

millions you can adopt from a humane society, but please

remember some creatures have never experienced thelove of a human, so be patient. I interviewed some Euper

    Lane students about their pets:

Kori Gardenhire (6th grade) has two pets. A

hamster, Oliver, and a dog, Buddy. Shes had Oliver

for 3 months and Buddy for 7 years. Oliver likes to

run through her fingers, and Buddy likes to play hide

    and seek.

Parker Dixon (6th grade) has owned 5 pets in the

past and present. At this time, he has 2 dogs, Sugar

and Pepper, and a cat, Tiger. Parkers says he lovesto play with them because they are funny, nice, and

    very playful.

Alex Gushing (6th grade) has a cat, Ernie. Alex says

Ernie likes to stay in her lap. He is warm, furry,

    and a lazy bone.

Aiko Bateman (6th grade) owns a fish tank full of

fishes. Her favorite is a glow fish because it is very

bright and colorful. She enjoys watching them

chase each other, and says Its better than TV!

Kinner Brasher (6th grade) has a dog named Magic.

Kinner has been master to Magic for 4 years. Kinner

says he likes to play with her because it makes him

    feel happy.

Maddison Haraway (6th grade) has 3 pets. A dog,

Nikki, a cat, Trixie, and a horse, Traveler. Maddi

said, I love to spend time with them. I run around

with them all the time. Its just so much fun to play

with them, and I love all animals.

My brothers, Tony (4th grade) and Anthony (Kindergarten)and I own 3 betta fishes. Weve had them for 1 1/2 years.

We like to watch them because after their tank is cleaned,

they dance for hours. When Anthony is older, we plan to

have a larger pet but right now he is too young to have a

dog, cat, or other pet such as a hamset or guinea pig.

Younger children should wait until they are mature enough

so as not to squeeze a small animal. Take care of your

furry or scaly friends. Remember with the furry ones, be

    kind and patient.

Safe Surfing! Internet safety was the topic of discussion recently when Mrs. Kincannon and

Mrs. Harris visited classrooms. Also the Fort Smith Public Schools gave all students a blue ribbon

to wear to remind everyone to follow these internet safety tips:

    1. Always have good manners and be polite when talking to someone else online.

    2. Ask your parents to spend time with you while online so that you can show them some of the neat

    things you can find online.

    3. Only use the internet when your parents tell you its OK, and only for as long as you are supposed to.

    4. Dont give out personal information like your address, telephone number or school name to anyone

unless you have permission from your parents.

    5. Never meet with a cyberfriend or key pal unless your parents go with you or you have their permission

    to go alone.

    6. Dont break copyright rules by taking words, pictures, or sound from someone elses web site without

    their permission.

    7. Dont respond to any e-mail messages you get if they are strange, mean or upsetting to you, and tell

your parents or teachers right away.

    8. Dont send pictures of yourself or your family to anyone unless you have permission from your parents

    9. Stop right away if you see or read something on a Web site that upsets you and tell your parents or

    teachers about it.

    10. Dont put words, pictures, or sounds on other peoples Web sites without their permission.

Have fun on the internet but remember to keep yourself safe!

    My Rockin Backyard.....by Brianna Priest

My fabulous rocking backyard is so awesome. We

can go play and stay out there for half an hour. I have

a swingset that little people and big people can play on

but watch your head. My backyard also has a large

brown & white hot tub that can seat nine people. It is

really good for the winter season. Also, I have an

awesome pool! It can seat 18 people and it is good

for summer. My awesome four-wheeler is really

fabulous! It is red and black. I have a storage unit

that we store a lot of stuff in. We have a peach tree

that we have to water every day. My backyard is so fu

to play in. I love my rocking backyard.
