We use this newsletter to share helpful information about your plan.

Physical Exams for the Family

Physical Exams and Well-Child Care Physical exams and Well-child care visits are covered for the whole family to stay healthy. Even if you are not sick, it is good to get these exams done.

These health exams follow a schedule:

• Birth - 24 months - 7 visits.

• Ages 2 -18 - one exam every calendar year.

• Ages 19 - 21 - one exam every calendar year.

• Ages 22 - 34 - one exam every 4 years.

• Ages 35 and older - one exam every 2 years.

What is included in a Well-child care visit?

Services include:

• Dental referrals

• Exams

• Health education

• Hearing and vision tests

• Immunizations

• Lead testing

• Nutrition information

Please call your family’s doctor to see if it is time to schedule your exams.

Allergy Season

Depending on where you live, there are three pollen seasons. The start and end of these seasons will vary based on the climate.

• Trees pollinate in spring.

• Grass releases its pollen in the summer.

• Weeds cause hay fever in the fall.

Intensive Care Coordination Services (ICCS) for Members with Special NeedsIntensive Care Coordination Services (ICCS), formerly Exceptional Needs Care Coordination (ENCC), is for people with complex medical or special needs. It helps members who are aged, blind or have disabilities, and children with special needs.

Our ICCS team can help you with your healthcare and community needs. This might include helping make medical appointments or finding transportation to your medical appointments. They can also help coordinate your care after you get out of the hospital. Their help is at no cost to you.

If you are new to PacificSource Community Solutions and one or more of the following is true for you, please call us.

• You have special needs and you are not able to see your primary care provider (PCP) within your first month on your plan, and/or

• You need prescriptions, medical supplies, or other medical items or services.

We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Would you like to stop using Tobacco?

We offer many services to help:

• Acupuncture

• Classes or phone counseling

• Nicotine patches, gum and lozenges

• Provider office visits

• Medicine used for the treatment of tobacco

• Quit for Life® program

Prenatal Care is Important!What is prenatal care? Prenatal care is the healthcare you get while you are pregnant. You can take care of yourself and your baby.

Why do you need prenatal care?Prenatal care can help keep you and your baby healthy. Babies of mothers who get prenatal care are more likely to be healthy and have a higher birth weight.

Doctors or Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) can talk to you about things they can do to give your unborn baby a healthy start to life.1 They can spot health problems early when they see mothers regularly.

Depression During PregnancyDepression can happen while you are pregnant. It may not go away without medicine or counseling. It’s not your fault and you are not to blame.

Call your doctor or CNM if you have any of these feelings:

• You feel sad or depressed

• You feel overwhelmed

• You feel more angry than normal

• You feel anxious or panicky

• You feel like you are out of control

Pregnancy Tips

• Stay away from second hand smoke.

•Don’t drink alcohol!

• Eat healthy food.

• Get plenty of sleep.

• Get early prenatal care.

• Get regular prenatal care.

• Go to all of your prenatal visits.

• Follow your doctor or CNM’s advice.

• Ask your doctor or CNM about childbirth classes.

Get Postpartum Care Postpartum care are visits with your doctor or CNM after you have your baby. After you have your baby, you will need to:

• Call your doctor or CNM’s office, as soon as you can.

• Make an appointment for a postpartum visit for 3 to 6 weeks after your baby is born.

During your postpartum care visit, your doctor or CNM will:

• Make sure your body is healing the way it should

• Take care of your family planning needs

• Check your overall physical health

• Discuss your emotional health

Baby BluesBecause of hormone changes, new moms sometimes feel sad or like crying after the birth of their baby. This happens to about 80 percent of moms according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The “Blues” are normal and usually goes away in a few weeks after the birth of your baby. If it does not go away or it’s severe, call your doctor or your CNM right away. They will help you get the care you need.

Time for MomNew moms get so busy taking care of baby, often they forget to take care of themselves. Taking care of YOU reduces stress.

Here are a few tips to help take care of YOU:

• Nap when baby naps.

• Ask someone you trust to watch baby so you can shop or do something nice for yourself.

• Join a mommy support group.

General Alcohol FactsThe legal drinking age in the United States is 21. Alcohol is the most commonly used and widely abused drug in the world. Many people are deciding to cut back or not to drink alcohol at all.

Five benefits to cutting back on alcohol1. Watch your weight. Alcohol has a lot of calories.

2. Sleep better. Alcohol affects normal sleeping.

3. Reduce stress. Alcohol is a depressant.

4. Avoid hangovers. Not over drinking keeps hangovers away.

5. Stay healthy for longer. Drinking less alcohol reduces the risks of alcohol-related diseases.

Tips to Cut Back• Don’t buy a round of drinks with friends.

• Try a smaller size drinking glass.

• Water down your drink.

• Drink more water.

Don’t Drink Alcohol if you are Pregnant!

Never drink alcohol if you are pregnant. Alcohol can damage your unborn baby.

If you are pregnant and can’t stop drinking, ask your doctor or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) for help right away.

You can lower the risk of problems to your baby if you stop drinking now.

Worried about your drinking?If you are worried about your drinking, talk with your primary care provider (PCP) or call the county health department. They can help you get the healthcare you need. The plan pays for office visits and treatment if considered medically needed.

Protect Your Brain!

Oregon law requires all kids under 16 years old to wear a bicycle helmet when riding a bike. Even if you are older than 16 years old, it makes sense to wear a helmet.

Wearing a bicycle helmet can reduce the risk of head and brain injury by 85%.

Bicycle Traffic Safety Tips:

• Ride on the right with traffic.

• Use hand signals.

• Obey traffic signs and signals.

• Be visible and ride alertly.

• Be predictable.

• Never ride a bike if you have been drinking alcohol.

A Perfect Fit• Replace your helmet

if it’s over five years old.

• Replace your helmet if you crash and hit your head.

• Your helmet must cover your forehead.

• The chinstrap must be tight and adjusted right.

• The helmet should not rock back and forth. If it does, the chinstrap might need adjusted.

Take steps to be safe when walking• Use the crosswalk when you cross the street.

• Look both ways before crossing.

• Walk on a sidewalk. If there isn’t a sidewalk, walk facing the traffic.
