The Story of Christmas: Jesus is Born
This is Mary. Mary was the mother of Jesus. But before that happened, she lived in
the Town of Nazareth and she was engaged to marry a man named
Joseph.
Mary got pregnant by the power of God. Joseph did not understand all this at first
but the angel came and told him to still take Mary as his wife.
So he did as the angel said.
Not long after that, the ruler of the land Caesar Augustus wanted to count
how many people were in the land. So Caesar Augustus
ordered everyone in the land to travel back to their hometowns so that they would
be counted. Joseph's hometown was Bethlehem, so Mary and Joseph travelled all the
way from Nazareth back to Bethlehem.
When they arrived in Bethlehem, they looked for a place to stay but there was no
room for them, so they stayed in a barn and while they were there Mary gave birth
to Jesus. She wrapped him snuggly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger. And so
the Son of God, the Saviour of the world was born in a barn in Bethlehem.

There was once a young man named Joseph who lived in the town of Nazareth. He was a
carpenter and was soon to marry a young woman named Mary.
One night when he was sleeping, he had a very strange dream. An angel came to him and
said, “Take Mary as your wife, the child in her is from the Holy Spirit. When the child is
born, name him Jesus and He will save His people from their sins.”
In those days, Emperor Augustus Cesar commanded that his people be counted. To do
this, everyone went to their hometown. For Mary and Joseph this was Bethlehem. The
journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem was long. Mary was almost ready to have her baby at
this time. They went down the hill to Galilee and up the Judean hills to Bethlehem.
Bethlehem was full of people who had come to be counted. The town had an inn but it was
full. Since there was no room anywhere else they decided to spend the night in a stable.
Here Mary had her baby Jesus. She wrapped Him in warm clothes and put him to sleep.
That night the shepherds who were guiding the sheep in Bethlehem, suddenly they saw
that they were surrounded with light and an angel standing in front of them. Seeing the
angels, the shepherds were scared.
The angel said: “Do not be afraid, I have come to give you the good news. Christ the Lord
has been born in Bethlehem.” Suddenly the sky was filled with angels praising God. On
hearing this, the shepherds went to Bethlehem and found Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus.
