Early Morning on Possum Kingdom Lake
What is Camp Grady Spruce?
• It is the ultimate outdoor learning experience! Naturalists are on hand to guide our students through unforgettable activities and learning opportunities.
• Camp Grady Spruce provides valuable hands-on learning opportunities in physical science, earth science, and life science. Students learn through seeing, doing, and exploring, allowing them to build life-long memories and create anchor experiences from which they can draw upon and relate to material learned in the regular classroom throughout the school year.
October 4-6, 2010Depart approx. 8:00 AM, Mon., Oct. 4
Be at school by 7:30 am Monday morning
Arrive back at Sendera on Wed. in time for 2:50 p.m. dismissal
A sack lunch is required on Oct. 4Students must arrive/depart by car only
Chaperones Chaperones manage the cabin. They also eat
meals in the dining hall, participate in all activities and stay in the cabins with the students.
Chaperones must have an approved background check and attend a mandatory training on Friday, Sept. 24.
Chaperones must follow all district rules and guidelines.
We still have room for male chaperones!!! Contact Mrs. Garcia if you are interested in attending Camp!
Camp Activities
• These activities are just some of the fun things your children will experience:– Daytime activities
• Hike up Johnson’s Peak• Explore Devil’s Island• Canoeing / Lake Study• Compass / Orienteering• Archery
– Nighttime activities• Star Lab / Night Hike• Hayride / Campfire/ S’mores
A Typical Day at Camp• 7:00 am Wake up, clean cabins, get ready for the day• 7:45 Hoppers to the dining hall• 7:50 Flag raising—all but hoppers must attend• 8:00 Breakfast• 9:00 Morning activity and trail time• 11:40 Hoppers to dining hall• 12:00 pm Lunch• 1:00 Rest• 1:45 Afternoon activity and trail time• 5:40 Hoppers to the dining hall• 5:50 Flag lowering• 6:00 Supper• 7:00 Evening activities• 9:00 Back to cabins• 10:00 Lights out
What to Bring to Camp
• 2 T-shirts• 2 Long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, or sweaters• 2 Jeans, sweats, or long pants• 1 Shorts• 3 Pairs of socks• 3 Undergarments• 2 Pairs of shoes for walking and comfort (one pair
that can get wet)• 1 Towel and washcloth• Lightweight Raincoat or Poncho• Personal toiletries (i.e. soap, shampoo, deodorant, foot
spray, etc.)
What to Bring to Camp• Sleeping bag or one set of twin size sheets and blanket• Pillow and pillowcase• Flashlight with fresh batteries• Insect repellant• Refillable water bottle (approx. 16 oz.)• Paper and pencil• Sunglasses (inexpensive pair)• Sunscreen• Cap/hat• Day pack or light back pack• Flip flops (for shower use only)• Book for reading• Disposable camera, if desired
What NOT to Bring to Camp• Cell phones• Jewelry• Radios/tape players/CD players• Curling iron• Hair dryer• Electronic games (i.e. Game Boys, etc.)• Food or snacks (all food and snacks will
be provided)• Knives or other sharp items• Other expensive items (i.e. cameras, cell
phones, beepers, etc.)
Write to your camper!• Students LOVE to receive “hugs” from home!
• Letters should be mailed one week prior to departure in order to arrive at camp by the necessary date (send by Monday, September 27).
• No candy or snacks are allowed to be sent due to allergies and food restrictions in cabins.

Important Reminders
• Before you leave tonight– $50 deposit due– Turn in all forms to homeroom teacher
(The pink form must be notarized.)• Friday, September 24
– All payments are due • Campers: $145, Chaperones $100
– Chaperone Meeting – 5:30 pm, Room 304• Monday, September 27.
– All medical forms and medication due to Nurse Cote– Send your camper a Hug from Home!

• Parent Responsibilities
Monday Morning• Students are not allowed to ride the bus with
all of their bags and bedding so they must be brought to school on Monday and you must pick them up on Wednesday.
• Please drop the kids off in the car line. We will gather in the gym.
• We will board the bus at approximately 8:00 so please bring your child to school by 7:30 a.m. The students will make their name tags, meet their chaperones, and run through a final checklist before they leave.
Monday Morning Cont’d.• The students will be given three name tags: One
for their bag, one for their bedding (please put it in a heavy duty plastic trash bag so it doesn’t get dirty in the storage compartment under the bus) and one for their backpack. Please do not pack more than is necessary, as each child is expected to carry his/her belongings.
• Remember to send a sack lunch with your child.
Wednesday Afternoon
• Students are not allowed to ride the bus with all of their bags and bedding so they must be picked up on Wednesday afternoon.
• Please pick the kids up in the car rider line on Wednesday (around 3:00). Do not park in the bus lane before school gets out.
• Don’t forget to pick up your child’s medication from the nurse!
Attendance Guidelines
• Attendance guidelines are the same for camp as they are for school.
• If your child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. they will have to be picked up by a parent from camp.
• Student Safety and Health are the #1 priority
