• In 1368 Hongwu drove out Mongol invaders and established the Ming dynasty (1368-1644)
• His son Yonglo replaced him in 1398.

voyages led by the famous admiral Zheng He.
• The voyages were massive. Some voyages had over 27000 members.
• These voyages led to increased prestige for China and contributed to European interest in China.

• One of Hideyoshi’s allies, Tokugawa Ieyasu, completes the unification of Japan

• Tokugawa becomes Shogun of all of Japan (1600)and he moves the capital to Edo, which later becomes Tokyo. This is known as the Tokugawa Shogunate, and lasted until 1867.
