Draw a 6" x 9" rectangle on thefelt with an air-erase pen, leavingenough fabric around the shapeto hoop the felt later.

A template is a printout of adesign, and it's an excellent toolfor planning where to stitch.

Print a template of the designfrom your embroidery software. Ifyou do not have embroiderysoftware to print templates, tryWilcom's TrueSizer, a freeprogram.

Center the template inside theshape, and mark the center pointand the horizontal and verticalaxis lines.

Spray a piece of medium-weightcutaway stabilizer with atemporary adhesive.

Smooth the fabric on top of thestabilizer..

Hoop the stabilizer and felttogether, aligning the marks onthe felt with the marks on thehoop.

For this project we are using anapplique design, which has twofiles. One is the embroidery fileand the other is the dieline file.

The dieline files are marked withthe letters DL. Dielines are usedto cut the fabric to the right shapeand size. Open the dieline fileswith embroidery software, andprint them.

For the applique bunnies, you willneed to print the dieline twice tocut out the three pieces as theyoverlap -- once for the outerbunnies and once for the centerbunny.

Cut around the paper dieline andspray the back of it withtemporary spray adhesive.

Smooth it onto the fabric.

Cut out the shape, and removethe paper.

Repeat to cut out the two otherapplique pieces.

We used different patternedquilter's cotton for each piece fora cute and playful look.

Attach the hoop to the machineand load the full embroidery file(not the dieline files).

Use a size 11 or 75/11 sharpsewing needle, rather than anembroidery needle. A sharpsewing needle has a smaller, finer point than an embroideryneedle, so that will make smallerperforations in the stabilizer.

Embroider the design. The firstthing to embroider will be adieline or outline. This marks thearea for the left rabbit fabricpiece.

Follow your color change sheet. Before sewing the step called"left bunny tack down," removethe hoop from the machine, butdo not unhoop the fabric.

Spray the back of the left rabbitfabric piece with a small amountof temporary adhesive. Place itright inside the sewn outline.

Attach the hoop back onto themachine and continue with thedesign.

A tack down will sew next, holding the fabric in place.

Then a finishing satin border willsew around the left bunny.

Before sewing the step labeled"right bunny tack down," stop themachine and remove the hoopwithout unhooping the fabric.

Then spray, place, andembroider the right rabbit fabricpiece the same as done for theleft.

Repeat the steps for the third, center bunny fabric piece.

Make sure to stop the machinebefore sewing the step called"center bunny tack down."

Once the design is finishedembroidering, unhoop the fabric, and turn it over.

Trim away the excess stabilizer1/2" around the design.

Flip the fabric so it is right sideup, and cut out the rectangle thatwas drawn earlier.

Draw a 1" x 9" rectangle on thefelt with an air-erase pen. Cut outthe shape. This will be the bottomof the front piece.

Draw a 4" x 9" rectangle on apiece of tablecloth vinyl with apencil.

Cut out the shape.

This will be the window of thetreat bag.

Now it is time to start assemblingthe front of the bag. Since bothsides of the stitching will be seen, wind a bobbin with the samethread used in the needle.

This matching bobbin will beused to sew the entire bag.

Flip the embroidered piece so thewrong side is facing up.

Making sure to only spray alongthe bottom edge of the piece, lightly spray the back edge of theembroidered piece withtemporary adhesive.

This will help the two fabricpieces stay together while youare sewing. Lay the vinyl pieceover the back of the embroideredpiece, overlapping the vinyl andthe felt 1/2".

Sew a decorative stitch along theedge of the felt, binding the twopieces together.

Repeat to attach the bottom feltpiece (cut to 1" x 9") to thebottom edge of the vinyl.

Make sure to lightly spray theback of the felt to hold the twopieces in place while sewing.

Also be sure to overlap the vinylon the backside of the felt by only1/2".

Now that the front side of the bagis complete it is time to make theback and side pieces.

To create the back piece, tracethe front piece onto the felt usingan air-erase pen.

Cut out the shape.

Measure the height of the frontpiece (this bag measures 10").

Then draw a rectangle on the feltthat is the height of the front by 4"wide (so this side piece is cut to10" x 4").

Cut out the rectangle. Repeat tomake a second side piece.

Then draw and cut a 9" x 4"rectangle out of the felt to createthe piece for the bottom of thebag.

Sew a decorative stitch along thetop edges of the front, back, andtwo side pieces.

This will create a decorativeborder around the opening edgesof the bag.

Take one side piece and lay it onthe table wrong side facing up.

Lay the back piece on top of it,matching up the edge of thebottom with the bottom edge ofthe side piece.

Make sure the wrong sides aretogether. Pin in place.

Sew a decorative stitch along thepinned edge of the felt pieces.

Repeat to add the second sidepiece to the opposite edge of thebottom piece.

Lay down the attached sides andbottom piece with the wrong sideup.

Lay the front piece of the bagonto one of the sides with theright side up (as shown). Makesure that the side is under thefront and that the bottom piececomes out of the bottom of thefront piece, not the top.

Match up the edge of the front tothe edge of a side piece.

Pin in place, making sure not topin through the vinyl as it willleave holes.

Making sure the top cornersmatch up, sew a decorative stitchalong the pinned edge.

When sewing the four sides ofthe bag, do not sew all the way tothe bottom of the side's edge.

Leaving a small tab where theside meets the bottom piece willhelp when sewing the bottomonto the front and back later.

Repeat to sew the opposite sidepiece onto the other side of thefront piece.

Sew the right side edges togetherso that the bottom piece is nottwisted at all.

Repeat again to sew the sides ofthe back onto the twocorresponding side pieces.

Pinch the bottom edge of thefront piece together with thecorresponding edge of thebottom piece.

Make sure the wrong sides aretogether, and pin in place.

Before sewing, press and holdthe bottom piece flat up under thefront piece, and make sure thesides are folding in.

This will ensure that none of thebag will get in the way whilesewing.

Sew a decorative stitch along thebottom edge.

Repeat to sew the bottom edgeof the back piece.

To make the straps, cut two 13"pieces of strapping.

Bend each piece into a handleand sew them to the bag using adecorative stitch on the front andthe back. Make sure each side ofthe handle is 2" from each side ofthe bag.

If using the applique bunnydesign, hot glue on three whitepom-poms to be the cotton tailsof each bunny
