    EASTER VIGIL

    FIRST PART:

    THE SOLEMN BEGINNING OF THE VIGIL

    The Blessing of the Fire and Preparation of the Paschal Candle

    Flow:

    1. Procession from the sacristy to the Church door for the Blessing of the FireNote: When the main celebrant reaches the Church door, all lights must be turned off.

    Then the Rite begins.

    2. The Main Celebrant says the Sign of the Cross and greets the congregation andinstructs about the vigil. (Instructions: see the Roman Missal)

    3. A burning fire is then prepared outside the Church door wherein the Main Celebrantblesses it. (Refer to Roman Missal)

    4. After the Blessing of the New Fire, a server carrying the Paschal candle brings it to theMain Celebrant for the Symbolic Rite of the Candle. (Refer to Roman Missal)

    5. During the Symbolic Rite, a server lights a candle from the New Fire and gives it to theCelebrant which in turn lights the Paschal Candle. (Refer to Roman Missal)

    6. Start of Procession- After the lighting of the Paschal Candle, the Celebrant puts incense into the censer.- The server holding the censer will go before the Paschal candle to incense it.- The server holding the Paschal Candle lifts it high, and the priest sings Christ, our

    Light. All respond: Thanks be to God.

    - The priest lights his candle from the flame of the Paschal candle.- Servers holding the processional candle also lights it from the Paschal candle then

    distributes it to the congregation holding their candles.

    - The procession goes on with the server incensing before the Paschal Candle.- When the Paschal Candle reached the center, the server holding the PaschalCandle stops at the middle and lifts it high and the priest sings Christ, our Light.

    All respond: Thanks be to God. Then the procession continues.

    - When the server holding the Paschal candle arrives before the altar, he faces thecongregation and the priest sings, Christ, our Light. All respond: Thanks be to

    God. Then the server places the Paschal candle on a large candle stand prepared

    next to the ambo.

    - When the Celebrant reaches before the altar, the Emcees holding the incense andincense boat goes to the Celebrant which in turn puts an incense powder to the

    censer. The Celebrant then incenses the Paschal Candle. (Emcees: stay beside the

    priest)

    7. Easter Proclamation- Then the priest goes to his chair then a cantor intones the Easter Proclamation.

    SECOND PART:

    THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

    Flow:

    1. After the Easter Proclamation and before the Liturgy of the Word, the servers holdingthe Missal, microphone and a flashlight goes to the Celebrant which in turn instructs

    the congregation in these or similar words: Dear brothers and sisters, now that we

    have begun our solemn vigil(Refer to the Roman Missal)

    2. Then the Liturgy of the Word follows.3. Choice of Readings and Chanted Psalms:

    a. Reading I: Genesis 1: 26-31 (Short Form)Psalm: Lord, send out your spirit

    Note: The Commentator, after the Psalm, invites everyone to stand for the

    Opening Prayer.

    ***Opening Prayer (c/o Celebrant)

    Note: The servers holding the Missal, microphone and flashlight goes to the

    Celebrant for the Opening Prayer. After the Opening Prayer, all sit for the SecondReading.

    b. Reading II: Exodus 14: 15- 15:1Psalm: Let us sing to the Lord

    Note: The Commentator, after the Psalm, invites everyone to stand for the

    Opening Prayer.

    ***Opening Prayer (c/o Celebrant)

    Note: The servers holding the Missal, microphone and flashlight goes to the

    Celebrant for the Opening Prayer. After the Opening Prayer, all sit for the Third

    Reading.

    c. Reading III: Isaiah 55: 1-11Psalm: You will draw water joyfully

    Note: The Commentator, after the Psalm, invites everyone to stand for the

    Opening Prayer.

    ***Opening Prayer (c/o Celebrant)

    Note: The servers holding the Missal, microphone and flashlight goes to the

    Celebrant for the Opening Prayer.

    4. Singing of Gloria (The priest intones the Gloria and the choir sings it)5. All lights are turned on during the Gloria.

    Flow:1. First Refrain of Luwalhati Spot Light on the Cross (while painting in being

    unveiled)

    Servers: Bell (Small bell and the entrance bell)

    2. Second Refrain of Luwalhati Spot Light on the sides and Spot light on the altar

    During the second refrain of Luwalhati:

    Servers:

    1. Emcee and Assistant Emcee altar cloth and the altar candles2. Other Acolytes decorate the altar with flowers3. Other Acolytes unveil the statue of the Sacred Heart and Mother Mary

    and decorates it with flowers *Only the Sacred Heart of Jesus spotlight

    3. First verse (At sa lupay kapayapaan) All chandeliers are turned on.6. Then after the Gloria, the Celebrant says the Opening Prayer. After the Opening

    Prayer, all sit for the Epistle.

    a. Epistle: Romans 6: 3-11Note: After the epistle, the commentator invites everyone to stand for the Grand

    Alleluia.

    Psalm: Alleluia

    7. Gospel Reading8. Homily

    THIRD PART:

    THE LITURGY OF BAPTISM

    1. After the Homily the Baptismal Liturgy begins. The Priest goes with the ministers tothe baptismal font, if this can be seen by the faithful. Otherwise a vessel with water is

    placed in the sanctuary. The baptismal Liturgy takes place in the sanctuary, the Priest

    immediately makes an introductory statement. (Refer to the Roman Missal)

    BLESSING OF WATER

    1. If no one present is to be baptized and the font in not to be blessed, the Priestintroduces the faithful to the blessing of water. (Refer to the Roman Missal_
