B. The justification for this action: REC 720 will aid in the preparation of Therapeutic Recreation students which is consistent with certification requirements. The national certification body, NCTRC, has changed its certification requirements. Students must complete 15 hours of therapeutic recreation coursework to be eligible for certification. REC 720 will allow students this requirement if needed.

This course will constitute 3 of 15 hours of therapeutic recreation course work needed to be eligible for certification.

Midterm –the exam will be multiple choice, fill-in-the blanks, short answer and essay (for graduate students). 2. Final Exam – the exam will be similar to the midterm. The exam will be open textbook. 3. Blackboard discussion and activities – we will be reading two chapters a week. Students will be paired for the entire 8 weeks. You will be expected to respond as a pair to the discussion or the assignment. The class will be held on Blackboard and by email. The professor will provide discussion questions or assignment on Blackboard discussion page and email. Students will be expected to respond to the professor on an assignment when directed by Bb announcement page or email. Each pair of students are expected to respond two times plus a response to my question (3 responses) when on Bb discussion page. Any question I ask there after also needs to be responded to. Students will respond to each other’s questions by first identifying by name who they are responding to on Blackboard discussion question. The response will be error free, reflective, related to the topic, and use citations from textbook or some other source (i.e. internet). The second chapter for that week will be read and expected to complete the assignment and send to the professor via email. 4.Graduate Students: (a) Graduate students will be required to write a seven to eight page paper on a trend in recreation therapy that includes synthesizing the results of at least four research studies from referred journals. (b) Graduate students will be required to facilitate a discussion on Bb of their research paper trend.
